has potential, but on my Pixel 9, it doesn't switch to the right cameras to see in detail close-up. Regularly old camera does much better. fix that and I'd give 5 stars! be nice to have more options too. like marking on the screen while viewing, screen freezes where it doesn't take the picture but it holds it to examine if it's worth saving, then either discard or save. just a view. EDIT: Noted, glad to hear the freeze function is already there.

I couldn't see the use vs just the camera, but played a bit and think I get it now. In a lit room it seemed the same. However, in the dark I could see things in this app that wouldn't be seen on camera without light or taking a photo then looking at it in Google photos (more files to delete, just to see/read something), since I can't use flashlight app w/camera. Might be useful just walking when it's so dark you can't see. Maybe; haven't tested that yet.🙂 Dark restaurant menu next. 🤞🏽
Great to see a magnifier app directly from Google. The contrast and flashlight adjustment settings are great. I also appreciate the ability to take a still image of something to view clearly without it saving to your device /Google Photos. However, I still find myself using the camera app / video mode + the screen magnifier for a more "stable" view of something I need to quickly see or read. (Pixel 6)
As a person who was walking around the house using a magnifying glass from time to time, I find this to be adequate. it does what it's supposed to and more. I've used it for different things such as taking pictures with my pixel phone as well as other things besides reading, directions and Etc, a flashlight function works great. you're trying to read even if it's dark. I have no problems with it
This is (ahem) magificent. I'm glad to have it. With it, I can read fine print, or (on a Pixel 7 Pro) zoom across the room to read a sign on the wall in a busy pub ("Ah, *that's* what the specials are!"). I have it set up so two taps on the back of the phone open the magnifier, and I use it nearly every day.
update: they added the ability to magnify pics! yay! og:this app is great for viewing stuff live but I wish I could use its zoom and filter features on photos I took with the normal camera app. like if I took a picture quickly of the menu at a restaurant. having to start with this app to use it on an image is a limitation for sure, but the photos app doesn't have the same nice zoom and filter options this has. let us open existing images with Magnifier and we'll get the best of both worlds :-)
it's a great little magnifier app. the only problem I have with it is that the color hue on the screen keeps oscillating between pink and blue. you never get a clear vision of what you're magnifying. it just keeps going back and forth strobing between pink and blue at a very slow rate. incredibly annoying!
With the Magnifier app, at zoom=1, at manual lens selection, at fixed shooting distance of about 143 mm: The short side of display covers 21 mm at UW lens, and 19 mm at W lens! So, almost the same! With the stock camera, in the same setup these are, respectively, 291 mm 137 mm. Also, on the Magnifier app, at W lens, at the same setup as above, that is physically sturdy, the short side of the image is tottering about 0.3 mm at about 0.5 sec frequency. Very useful app still. /GP10XL
Wow finally a useful, straightforward, GOOD app that wasn't forced upon me, but suggested. Incredible. Please google, more interactions like this. You simply capture what you want to see clearer, and the app enhances it to near crystal clear legibility.
I'm finding this more and more useful as I get older. I like the quick tile, but need something easier to get to, going to attach it to tap the back gesture
the good and bad... I choose Google apps to avoid the risks of third party apps and for the smooth integration with my pixel phones. unfortunately, after adding a button in my pull down quick setting tiles to make it easy to access, the tile fades out and stops working. Not sure why, but it makes quick access to the app a much slower process. - hence the bad.
Awesome, thoughtfully designed app. Can we please get a full-screen toggle to temporarily remove all controls? Thanks for listening to our feedback.
Works better than any magnifying glass Ive ever seen. I do wish the adjustable brightness of the flashlight was available in the status bar menu of my pixel 9 pro but that isn't this apps fault that they showed me a better flashlight but only in app and not system set. Made by Google, well I guess it is their fault!
I actually use it all the time. Even though you can zoom in on some websites, you can't always get the best. best focus. I love this magnifier app. thank you for making it! it even has great detail on zoom in. urine
This app's find word feature is something I've always wanted to do with my phone's camera. 100 out of 10 stars!
One of those simplistic luxuries that you don't realize you need, until you don't have it! I absolutely love it and use it on the daily.
I just downloaded this app and quickly tried it. In that short time, I have to say that it's the best magnifier I've used yet. It focuses quickly, the enhanced view is very nice, and I love the various colored contrasts like yellow on black, black and white or yellow/blue etc. making it easier to read. The flashlight works very well with this app also. It will be great for reading price tags, restaurant menus, grocery boxes and more. I am very happy with this app! Thank you Google!
keeps crashing in the quick settings short cut. please fix
stopped working in quick settings. update: fixed thanks Google!
Does what it promises, without ads. 4x and 8x magnifications are jittery and not very useful, but that's not the app's fault. 1x provides a fair enlargement, despite the name, and adds a ton of contrast. Very handy for reading labels, tiny ingredient lists, and price tags.
