This is a great app. My only issue is that it will drain the phone's battery in about 2 hours if the screen is always on. Is there a "night mode" that would use less energy? (Solution: skip changing from Power Saving mode.) Question: Why does the calorie counter begin dropping as my speed drops? My effort is greater climbing enen though my speed is lower. Conversely, when I'm coasting down a hill, the calorie counter adds calories burned. This is a bug, not a feature.
Some time in the past I really enjoy map my ride. I start my ride walk or run and everything is tracked. When I'm done I save my workout and it all goes to my account for access on my computer.. the monthly updates put the month into perspective. My only problem is when I lose the GPS signal, most tracking becomes meaningless. Not too often, but it happens. Setting my routes hasn't worked out too well. But 90% works and works great. I use out too the max
I downloaded this app as well as mapmywalk to record my walking and riding distance. I do not need the completely unnecessary notifications so I have them turned off. Now everytime I open Mapmyride I get a message saying notifications are off. If I don't want the notifications I also don't want messages about them. Oh and I switched back to an older phone and I could see my progress by pulling down the menu bar So after a few updates that is gone. Why? I am doing other things with my phone.
I don't have a fit bit or anything like it, because map my ride does everything I want, I use it for walking, hiking, and biking. I just had a hip replacement, and I plan to use it to track my progress. It is very flexible while staying unobtrusive, and it has all of the tracking I want and is quite accurate.
Delighted New User. On 3rd day of trying MapMyRide. Don't be put off by the name. It has settings all types of exercise. Mine (so far) has been used on the Dog Walk setting. I didn't realize we were covering miles. Wish MapMyRide had been around when I was young and super active. So much cooler than a step counter (which it does as well) with a map that shows the path you took once finished. I'll definitely sign up when the trial is over.
Ok, takes a while to navigate the site. Still having trouble pulling up my workout history. OK, I've been using it a year now, and I'm a bit better navigating now. I still can't figure out how to import my heart rate from my watch. I did it once, then I got a new phone, lost it, and can't get it back. I still like MMR better than STRAVA, mainly because of the real-time audible splits. Now, if I could just get it to give me my heart rate.
For 2 weeks now Map My Ride has been unreliable, stopping during my walks and bike rides, where it barely tracks any of the ride/walk anymore. I've uninstalled/reinstalled, updated the app, and nothing works. Anyone experiencing this issue? This was my go-to app but I'll have to use something else without a fix. Easy to use, I can follow friends, there are options for cycling and walking, and I love that it keeps my stats. I also like that I can save each activity with a description and image!
It started with the upsells almost immediately. This just a gateway store for athleticwear. The app is unintuitive. I can see spending a few minutes signing up so it keeps a record. First ride? No easy access to the ride route history. That's an upsell. Criminy, just don't even get me started. If you can't offer me at least a minimum of usefulness free forever, well there's no reason to leave the app on the phone. Goodbye.
I was initially happy with this app, but then they added lots of new paid features that get in the way of a simple workout. The last straw was when I completed my workouts it has now started to prompt me to save my workout, where it never did before. I click save and it takes me to some page where I have to enter a name and a description. This is complete nonsense! When I go back to the end of workout page, there is no way around the prompt, forcing me to abandon the workout. Fine. Uninstalled.
I seem to have nothing but trouble with this app. I used it for a long time without issue, but then I would get caught in a Save Workout loop. Even after selecting to discard the workout it would just take me back to the Save Workout window. The only way out is to uninstall and reinstall. More recently I'm getting to my destination only to find that it stopped tracking about halfway, making it pointless to record the rides. Today I'm back in save workout loop and have once again uninstalled.
Decent cycling app! Fairly easy to use. Records the necessary info for each ride. Allows each workout to be edited, which is very useful. I subtracted 1 star because it does not record each month's mileage separately. It will document rides by weeks & overall mileage, but not the total for each month. I like to compare month to month without having to use a calculator. If I'm missing something, please let me know. Thanks!
The only really annoying thing is that in terrain view when you zoom it in to be able to read the numbers on the contour lines, the contour lines go away. When the contours are visible the contour numbers are not. Also, it would be nice if the elevations (feet) in the elevation profile we're round numbers. Perhaps they would be round numbers if they were in meters. I haven't checked that.
Does what I want. Gives me speed, average speed, distance and duration and does it well. I don't need all the extras that come with the app or the cost. I am a 76 yr old that is a recreational rider that likes to try challenge myself.5/26/22 Still working good and meeting my needs. 8/30/22 Update: App still doing for what i need. I am not a competitor or road race, jut an old bicycle rider who likes to know speed, time & distance.
I have used this app for 4ish years now, and it was always pretty reliable. But recently (2025) it keeps stopping mid-workout. Easily 4/5 of my bike rides end with me finding the app stopped miles ago. My phone hardware, software, and even my route hasnt changed. The app gives you a lot of great features, but sadly they are meaningless if the basic function fails. In its current state, i cannot recommencd if you are a user who wants a semi-accurate record.
Perfect app, works great... BUT there is a problem with the audio saying "workout started" and "workout finished" while the person's phone is silenced. It's kind of awkward when I finish my bike ride, go indoors and hold the button down to hear it say that, loudly, in front of family. Aside from that, I would recommend a way to search for an address or location using the app, instead of using Google Maps.
I hadn't used the app for a number of months. When I resumed, the "current speed" indicator had gone wonky. I can be heading down a hill, quickly gaining speed - with the "average speed" showing a small increase as well - but the "current speed" indicator shows a sustained and steady DECREASE in speed. Makes it impossible to monitor my speed and try to maintain a minimum. The rest of the app still works fine.
Great app. I wanted an app to track my mileage on the bike trail. I loved how it told me every mile how far I'd gone and my average speed for the mile. After the last update, my app no longer works on my Pixel phone. I'm stuck with an orange screen and can't see my previous workouts. Ok, so it works great again. I had to uninstall it, shut my phone off, and reinstall it and it works again. I didn't lose my workouts either.
I haven't explored all the details of how it works, and if there is a paid version then I only have the free version, but it reports miles covered and speed and such, so it is pretty cool. I like how it maps it so you can see what you did and where. I'll add that you need to go into app settings to have it auto-detect pauses. We did a slow, casual bike ride with our daughter and it didn't pause when I stopped until I fixed that in settings, but after that, it did really well.
Used for 8 years. Used to be great, but in 2019 something really changed. No longer accurate with actual speed during ride, keeps running when paused. Have tried everything to remedy, contacted support, still no good. But after 8 years and all my data in it, hate to lose everything. Still hoping it gets fixed, but after 8 months of waiting, had to write this negative review.
I love the app I use it all the time it's fantastic for tracking workouts calories splits Paces everything. My go-to workout is cycling while listening to Audible perfect combination. The only thing I would say about this app is it would be nice if I could keep it up on my phone which is the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus while I'm riding so I can see the map and everything as I go without a draining the battery leaving the app open drains the battery a little too quickly for my liking that's the only complaint. I love that while I'm riding in the screen is turned off and I'm strictly focused on the exercise my audiobook that's playing in my ear through my headphones is paused while I get a mileage update and a split speed update from the app and I don't lose a place in the book or have to do anything that would have required me to take my hands away from the handlebars. Awesome app!
