Updating my review after 4 years to a 3 star review. The app is still great to use, but I don't like how in order to transfer your project files to a Flash Drive off of your phone, you have to buy a higher premium membership. I'm fine paying for the cheap premium, but I wish I could just save my project files onto my PC through file transfer without paying.
I bought the full premium version years ago and loved it. Then, for some reason, they put your ability to access the .MDP files ON YOUR DEVICE behind a subscription paywall. You cant even access your files when you connect to a computer! I wanted to move my files off of my tablet to make room, but can only delete images one by one in the apps clunky gallery function. Awful, greedy buisness.
Had it for years, liked it for years, but MAN it went downhill recently. every time you open the app, try to save a canvas, try to export anything, and a good handful of circumstances even further around it? you get an ad that takes up the whole screen. Maybe I've just got bad aim, but I don't click on the fake exits and STILL wind up with random apps downloaded that I never okayed. If you're committing, try making your own brushes- they lock so many behind a paywall and that's currently free.
Super great drawing app, almost the same as the desktop version! This is the only digital drawing app that treats me as well as a sheet of paper and I love it! Edit: I still love the app, but the ads make it near impossible to use. I usually just close the app and re-open after saving or exporting my current drawing. The ads and the blocked out "premium" brushes being mixed into the brushes make it very annoying. Especially when it isn't difficult to create your own brushes.
I've used this for nearly a decade. It's fallen off severely. Ads just about every save and every 20 brushstrokes. An update put most brushes (That I use in every piece) behind a paywall when they weren't for YEARS and are free on every other drawing program. (Fill tool for example.) You used to be able to watch an ad to unlock everything behind a paywall for 12 hours or so and it's now down to 3. I've moved to FireAlpaca and will be archiving my work then deleting this app from all my devices.
The amount of choices are very large. I've been using Medibang for almost 3 years now, and it's still the drawing app I depend on. However, I have a few problem with it. Sometimes, the canvas crashes and it would exit by itself, making me hope that the nearest save got all my work down. It's very frustrating to deal with it, since it happened on most of my drawings. Overall, I'd give the app itself a solid 5/5, if it didn't crash everytime I'd use it
I love this app. Very easy to use! No need to unlock or buy anything which is great. They also have tutorials on YouTube, although not in English the interface is the same so it's easy to understand what to do. I would rate this 5 stars however the only problem I'm having is that it crashes when I try to add an item or freezes up when I try to rotate. But the good part is it does back up your work for the most part so not much is lost. Please fix that one bug. I'm using and Android, stylo 4 to be exact. Edit: still crashes randomly. :( but I won't stop using it. Just make sure you save your progress as the auto back up doesn't save anything like it use to.
this used to be my favorite art program and my go-to recommendation for people searching for art programs to use. unfortunately they implemented ads and now it is basically unusable. there are ads that take up 1/4-1/3 or so of the screen. you can minimize them, but they reopen whenever you turn the screen, and they also refresh so every few minutes you have a new ad that you have to close. it's EXTREMELY disruptive and makes the program lag especially if you're on an older device. very sad :(
This has been my Go-To art program since 2017 for both mobile and PC ^-^. There's a huge library of great and free brushes to use (if you have an account) and good manga making capabilities as well- along with downloadable templates and stuff straight off of the app :>! The only issue I have with it is that there's a video ad that plays every time I save, and sometimes they break which won't let me 'x' out of it. It's annoying to have to exit out of the app and open it again when I save ;(.
I really like this app. I tend to use it the most, considering I switched to MediBang last November. However, I do have a few issues with it. Firstly, I cannot switch apps without losing my work. It usually isn't a big deal when I begin sketching, as that can be redone quickly. But, I can completely finish a drawing, then lose all progress by accidentally going home. Another issue is with one of the recent updates. I can no longer drag my layers to the appropriate location. I do not use folders, so putting layers into one is useless to me. Even so, the ad put in place in order to sort them into folders is a bit ridiculous, but I can understand why it's there.
There are ads all the time, it's to the point where an ad would pop up when I would save, but the ad would crash before the artwork could save, causing me to lose all progress. And, even though I wanted a time lapse feature for so long, this one saves each time you open the art again as sperate videos, and merging them doesn't work. There's also no way to delete the videos so it takes up so much unnecessary space. I loved this app from around 2018-2019,but now it's practically unusable for me.
I love this app. It's easy to use and fun. With that being said, here's why I gave 2 stars. Because there's one fundamental issue that ruins the entire experience. The crashing. You'd think a drawing app would never crash, and if it did, it would save your work. This is not the case. Many times, I've had hours of progress reverted after a crash. So without constant saving, your work isn't safe. You also can't rotate images, only flip.
I used to recommend medibang but cannot do so anymore. This was before they added ads. The ads are extremely intrusive and are there every second, while you draw, after you save, when you close the canvas, etc. etc.. Insane. Cannot stand using the app outside of airplane mode now-- I don't use it to make drawings anymore, only edits I can't do with a standard photo editing app. The positive is that minus the ads it's functionally great, but as a whole you're better off using an alternative.

I'd go higher, but there's problems. The less, but annoying one, is the ads are a bit much. If it wasnt so suddenly in your face where I could accidently tap it because I'm trying to draw would be nice. The more important one is how easily it just freezes and crashes suddenly, I've never had this issue unless I was drawing with tons of layers, like 70+ and I got that. But when I'm using like 6 or 7 layers and it works fine just to suddenly freeze and quit making me lose progress, thats not fun.
It's amazing, but it tends to crash when trying to backup the drawing (usually if you have too many things in the backup file, as they save individually instead of by drawing) and the ads every time I open the app (even when I put it to the side for a second) are rather annoying. especially since they're usually the ones where you have to close out of it 4 or 5 times to make it go away. anyway ignoring these complaints, this app is damn near perfect!
It's pretty much the only drawing program I'm comfortable using because I learned how to use it properly throughout 3 years. But I have a complain with it, specially the mobile version, the back ups. This app makes so many of these mid-drawing and sometimes it deletes an unacceptable amount of work even when I did save. THIS IS A BIG ISSUE. I highly recommend downloading a PC version of Medibang Paint because not only does it have way more functions, some of these are premium in the mobile app.
Used to use this Al the time when I was younger, it was my first ever drawing app (mostly on PC) and now it's riddled with ads that need 4 x's before closing. I haven't had a bad experience other than this, however it's definitely not fun trying to save just for an ad to pop up. It's almost like I'm paying to save my artwork. an ad covers my screen on the initial launch too, so now I'm wondering if the PC version is just as bad. I'm not willing to find out.
I was drawing for at least two hours, trying to experiment with it. It was confusing, but ok. I went to a different tab to watch a YT video as a break, and I lost ALL MY WORK. I saved multiple times, and I didn't leave the app. It didn't say it crashed either. I just opened, and it was all gone. So sure, it's ok, but because of it, two hours have gone to waste.
I do love the app, but it's a pain to use nowadays. Every time you do anything, you get a full screen uninteruptable ad that is followed by another that you have to close. It's annoying. And there is no one-time purchase, not even just to remove ads, you have to pay for a subscription. I do not use it regularly enough to justify the subscription, and the pop-up ads make it inconvenient. Ipis paint is a good alternative, but it just doesn't have the same features and feel I like in medibang
As a free art program app, it's really amazing. As for the community, I've noticed that there isn't really any diversity. There are mainly people who draw anime or Asian-related art. And I have an issue with uploading my own artwork. When I uploaded it, it was blank. And I tried a second time, but it was still the same result. I tried to report it as a bug through the app, which took me to their site with a form to fill out, which I couldn't complete because of one of the sections that was in red
