Utterly unreliable and a waste of money. One minute app can locate nearby theaters, next minute it can't find anything. Limited movie selection and forget planning anything in advance because you can't buy a ticket more than a couple hours out. Reset password option does not work. No reset link will ever be sent. I tried to get my husband to cancel this dud of a birthday gift, but sadly he procrastinated and missed the window --I would've gotten more use from a bowling ball named Homer.
its a scam, worst experience, just so many glitches. orders won't work because they change the credits necessary, that they set, without notifying you so when you try to buy tickets it won't go through. Then after trying multiple times they block your card for 24 hours, and customer service isn't able to unblock it, so you need to pay double for your movie tickets & be stressed. Then they also try to make you start multiple accounts with different emails to inflate user numbers.
This app provides a legitimately awful service. It was a good deal when I got a subscription a year ago. The amount of credits they gave you were more than enough to see at least 1 movie/month, with a bit left over so you might be able to squeeze in a second movie. But the amount of credits needed to see a movie has gone up so much you can barely afford to see 1 old unpopular movie a month. Plus they charge a credit processing fee, it's a made up currency, why are they adding extra hidden fees!
I'm giving this service 3 stars. I have been happy with them for the most part, but their app is held together with with bubble gum and dreams. Why is it that the one theater we've been going to through moviepass all the sudden doesn't show any "show times" on my phone (android) but my wife is able to pick a seat on her phone (apple)? It is incredibly frustrating and I have had to flake on 2 movies. If it doesn't work one more time, I'm canceling. I have a bunch of credits I can't use.
Using credits at the theater is next to impossible unless you pay the premium for online booking beforehand. The process is not good. I did get some extra credits due to an issue when contacting support but the fact remains that this new card-less process has flaws. They also don't let you use your existing credits after canceling (unless you do it by the end of your billing cycle) so I paid for a few months of credits and ended up losing nearly all of them. This is not a pleasant experience.
I like the credit structure of my plan. I use just the right amount. I had a glitch where I was kicked off service on their end, but a short in-app message conversation with customer service fixed it. Edit review: the first review was from 4/23. Today is 8/25/23. I'm canceling my subscription with 66 credits left on my account! 1. the increase of the Tuesday credit requirements 2. only being able to see one movie a day 3. my preferred theater seemingly not accepting the service anymore
Terrible. I signed up in the middle of January and received 4 separate moviepass debit cards. My account was logged out of, and now I can't get back into the app or web page. I have contacted customer support multiple times, and there is no answer. I have reached out to their social media, trying to get any sort of response. I can't log in to cancel the plan, and I can't get ahold of any support. This is the worst setup. I used Moviepass years ago and at the time enjoyed it.
This is the most terrible app I have ever TRIED to use. I haven't been able to see even 1 movie since joining. There are no longer any theaters within 50 miles of me that have any showings available, even though there were plenty listed when I joined. But the worst part is I CAN'T cancel my account. They keep giving me instructions on how to do it from the app, but what they say does not exist. There is NO cancel option. I finally found "remove account" but it only takes me back to the chat.
Started out great but then they put restrictions on how many movies you can see. It used to be one per day but then I think they limited it to 3 per month. Then towards the end, the card would decline so I was paying a monthly subscription for something that didn't even work. Then they continued to charge me after I canceled. I had to get my bank involved and tell them to block any charges from Movie Pass. I finally got it canceled but it took way too long.
It is infuriating to sign up with the understanding that most for a ticket would be 20 credits, then I look in the app and the tickets cost more than what I paid a month for the membership. Not counting I lost credit when the system wasn't working properly. So yeah no more movie pass for my family. Oh also use all your credits before you cancel cause those are not useable if you don't have a current account.
Used to be good and could get movies for a reasonable rate of credits. Now, credit prices have inexplicably tripled even on days that movies are cheaper (discount days). Also used to be able to see multiple movies in a day (reservations cleared every 2 hours), now they're persistent and you can only see 1 movie a day. App is going in the wrong direction and probably will be canceling soon. Moviepass sucks once again
This app never works. It always gives me server error. Forces to turn on precise location all the time, even when location is enabled. It tells me I am offline when I have internet and strong mobile signal. I ended up having to pay for movies because the app didn't work at the theater. Save your money and do NOT get a moviepass. They are not delivering their product.
Not ready and misleading. The way the app works is that you get a certain amount of credits depending on how much you pay each month. The website cleary states that you get at a minimum 3 movies per month, but this is very misleading. You see, not every ticket is worth the same amount of credits. Depending of the show time and threatre, it can go from 10 to 30 credits. So unless you wait till the movie is less popular or go at an odd time, then you might only go once per month. Useless service.
They increased the number of credits it takes per movie now, so it doesn't make sense for me to keep the subscription anymore. I always go early on a weekday where they advertise it would be less credits. I'm only getting one movie per month now. I no longer recommend. My theater also requires you to purchase tickets in the app or at their kiosk. Guess what? That's an extra 7 credits now. Smh. Regal has $5 tickets on Tuesday. I'm going to stick with that and 50% off popcorn. Win, win.
Even if you only see one movie per month, if you live in an area where movies cost a lot, this is cheaper. Love it! Edit: This program was nerfed pretty quickly this time. At first, I could see matinees for 10 points. Now even the cheapest movies are more than 20, and the app failed to work twice when I was at the theater.
Terrible app. On my Android under "personal information" it has blank boxes and no instructions on what goes in those boxes. And the website is terrible too - the login doesn't work and the text takes up the whole screen! And I can't buy a ticket without knowing the four digits on my card, which won't arrive for 10 days. hmmm. hope it gets better! If I can't login I'm worried I won't be able to easily cancel...
They do not honor the service they promise and do not reimburse you. They gave me 34 credits to choose a movie. I chose one that costed 27. They gave me a digital credit card that I could use for 2h. The card was declined. When I complain about it, they said the value of the movie was higher than what they offered. I tried it another day and got the same error.
This app, like its previous incarnation, is no longer worth the time. Prices fluctuate wildly - they've been hovering around 30 credits for a few months now (which is basically all my monthly credits on the $10/month plan). Yesterday I checked and a film was 15 credits at 7 PM, which is reasonable. Today the exact same film at the exact same time was 30 credits? On a Wednesday vs a Thursday? Pricing is so opaque and inconsistent it's impossible to make plans, especially with short release indies
I'm wondering if moviepass is becoming a scam at this point. Every time I purchase a ticket, my moviepass card is declined because of their implementation of surge pricing. Half the time you're able to accept the "credit change" and the other half of the time there is nothing in the app about accepting the price change so you end up holding up the line and needing to purchase it with your own credit card, as I've just done tonight.
For the price I pay for the service it's not a bad deal. The only thing I would recommend is the ability to check in in advance instead of having to wait the day I want to see the show especially opening weekend. There's less of a chance to see certain movies if I have to wait until the day of showing. But unlike other similar movie subscription services you're not limited to just a particular group of movie theaters (AMC, Regal, ect.) so it makes this service a better value.
