Can't sign in anymore. The app already had some issues before recently like unable to load images, but now you can't sign in and track anything. Edit: Still unable to sign in. I sent MAL the support email that they messaged me about and still nothing. You download the app, try to sign, it opens your browser instead, after you put in your info.... nothing
Edit: incessant notifications have gotten better. I think it would be better if the app opened up automatically to your list, though. That's what we're all here for anyway. You get two more stars for not being awful 👍 I have all notifications turned off, yet continue to receive notifications constantly. Fix this, or I will delete the app and once again leave this service for the next 5 years.
App is helpful, but difficult to navigate easily through names since theres no english option for anime titles. It's all just the romanized Japanese, which makes it hard to select when you only know the english title for it. While the english titles can be found in the synopsis, an option that allows the english title to be shown on the main page means less hassle to have to click onto each synopsis and would offer a smoother use of the app. Especially when aiming to quickly add to your list.
App works fine, easy way to search and add to watch list when I get recommendations. Navigating through completed shows is impossible without English titles. Constant re-searching or scrolling for 10 minutes, staring at thumbnails. I can't remember all the English names either, but at least I recognize them in a list. Worthy of 4-5 stars with English titles. Without, it's just a notepad with search. Update 2 to 4 star: even without English titles (lame), it's a pretty good notepad with search.
From what I can tell, there is no reason to use this app over the MAL Client app. Everything that is unavailable here is available over there. As just something I want from myanimelist as a whole is allowing more that 10 favorites of each of manga, anime, novels, characters, and people. I find that to be too limiting for me as a consumer. Other than that, this app is terrific.
As much as I'd like to use this app on more than a very rare occasion, I cannot do so because of a critical flaw. Unfortunately, at least for me, all the anime names when browsing are in Japanese. To be fair, if you click on them you can find the English title breakfast is not help me when I'm trying to browse through the lists. I browse by viewing the cover art and it's so inconvenient for me that I just don't use the app. Please update the app with an option to change the titles to English.
I LOVE My Anime List! I have always used the website, but it's also handy to have the app. The only downside is that you can't start conversations in the forum or log manga with the app like you can with the site. Overall MAL as a whole is a great app/site for people like me who have seen/read HUNDREDS of anime/manga and want to keep track of the ones that you've seen/read, tried but didn't like, placed on hold or plan to watch/read in the future! It's also nice to be able to rate them!
I won't be too harsh with them. I have used multiple anime tracking apps, having an official MAL app is something I've been wanting for a while. There's room for improvement and they know it. It would be great if the topics in the home page opened in the app, rather than being redirected to the website. An easier and more user friendly tracking, with + - easier to access. When we click on a notification it would be great if the app went straight to it instead of having to refresh & search for it
The layout is better than desktop, but I can't read the foreign titles. There's no option to change the titles to my language. EDIT: I don't have time to click on hundreds, if not thousands, of titles to read them! That's stupid! EDIT: ads in the app are malicious. They're designed to keep my phone's back button hidden, but if I accidentally touch the ad it links to sites without my permission.
Better off using the website. You can't look at the top anime/manga on the app, your lists won't update if you add stuff to your list through the website, and you can't log out and right back in without any trouble. It took me 10 tries to log back into the app. You can't even sort your stuff in your lists as well, which is a huge missing feature. Absolute garbage.
It's better in some ways than viewing the web site on mobile, though it lacks the compactness of it as well as not being able to see many of the detailed fields, such as tags and watch history. Also, I miss not being able to see the English titles like I can on the web. I'll use it to mainly update read LN volumes as I do that on an e-reader, but mostly stick to the web version on my laptop.
It is difficult to navigate without the English titles of the anime. Plus, with the anime broken down by season, it added extra difficulty searching for each season without the English title. Had to uninstall, but I would love to reinstall if the titles were in English at the very least! (Would love to see the seasons combined into one show to rate, of course.)
The app will not let me login at all. It's more than happy to tell me when I type the wrong password, but if I put in the right one it just does nothing at all. It just sits there no matter how much I click login. I even changed my password to be sure, tried other devices, cleared cache, reinstalled app, nope. App just does not allow you to sign in at all! (Sign in on browser works fine so just use the mobile site I guess? Kind of defeats the whole purpose of the app though)
Meh. Could be better. Kind of like the website but a "lite" version. App takes you to the website if you want to make any significant changes to your profile. Can't view comments on profile, utilize the friends tab, etc. Search is functional, and the UI is fairly intuitive. It just needs an overhaul to be a legitimate competitor to the website.
I like the app because you can get notified when a new episode/show/manga chapter is viewable to the public. What I don't like is that I have been receiving a notification every 15 minutes about a show that is being watched by the community that I don't even have followed. This has been going on all weekend; over 100 notifications. Edit: (was 1 star) Issue fixed, but app tends to break itself more often than I would like. Fantastic when it works, infuriating when it doesn't.
I really do love this app, but I can't change the titles to show English instead of the main one. It really makes it hard for me to figure out what I want to watch next when I can't really read the title. Basically I have to go by the picture then click on it to see what the English title is so I can remember what it's about. I know you can change it online to show English over the main title, but for some reason not on the app. 5 stars when added to app.
The first experience I had with this app was being asked to create a profile. For the profile, MyAnimeList wanted my birthday for some reason. I went to provide my birthday and was not allowed to type it but rather had to scroll through each individual month back to the early nineties. The app would kick me out of this section to start over usually around 2018 or so. I never was able to even create the profile to use the app. Killer work.

Literally opened the app, created an account, started adding animes I have watched, and the app stopped working. At first it wouldn't add an anime I selected to my list, so I tried adding a different one and now it won't load the discover page. I tried force stopping the app it didn't work. I tried uninstalling it completely and reinstalling it, it didn't work. I only got to use it for 2 minutes and it started to act up. I really want to add animes I've watched over the years onto here. Pls fix.
Really simple and easy to use, but I wish it would continue to support updating on slightly older phones. I know that not everyone is able to buy a new phone build because of the expenses and other potential reasons. I also wish the app would allow you to add and edit *mature* anime, because as of now I have to go to the web browser to do so.
Decent app. I'm a collector, it would be nice to be able to track what manga I own but have not read. I keep my own list so I can reference it when I'm shopping. I often buy manga out of order too so being able to track multiple books of a series by selecting 1, 3, 5 instead of 1-5 would be more appealing.
