Works well in most cases. But has some problems. When I try to translate long Chinese text, it sometimes totally remove all the line breaks, making things hard to read. Also, while I read translated web site, if I use some other app and come back, it just go back to initial screen, losing where I was reading so far. I had to find the address I was reading and re-translate it. When that happens at the bad situation, it really makes me to think twice about using this app.
Living in Korea, this is a life saver. I use it daily for survival, and for helping my English students learn proper and accurate translations. Google translate does not compare to this app. Papago is extremely accurate and the only reliable Korean-English application. The voice is very natural sounding and accurate, it helps me when I need last second translations and to hear its pronunciation! Again, you cannot go wrong with this app!
Papago is fantastic! A must-have for Asian language translation (and for some others). In my book, Google Translate used to have no challengers since it moved to the neural network. I recently found Papago, and it is neck and neck with Google Translate. Perhaps slightly worse for more technical and long-winded sentences, but perhaps slightly better for short phrases. At any rate, what shocked me...really taking me aback...was the natural AI pronunciation (not yet with all languages, but including Japanese, (Simplified) Chinese, Korean, French, and Spanish, at least). It is far better than Google Translate and often could be mistaken for an actual human speaking! If just for that, it's worth checking out. You can also speak right into the app and the voice recognition is on point. I would like to see an offline mode for travel in the future, even if the quality in that mode decreases somewhat. Also, it would be cool to click on an individual word and get its meaning. Overall, one of the best translation apps out there.
I use Papago all the time when I'm working on my Japanese studies and when I want to know what images say! I'm normally content enough with Google translate, but it just doesn't do as well of a job when it comes to translating Japanese. It also has the unfortunate feature as of late that it refuses to pick up the characters in an image, even when they're in plain text... It was incredibly frustrating, so Naver is really a lifesaver! It reads my images perfectly and translates JP so much better!
Took away 2 stars because my account was banned for no reason (says suspicious location or process?) the day after I signed up through the app in the US. I barely had a chance to use it, so not sure what extra features that really gives you. Pretty nice ui, and convenient. Seems best for Japanese, Korean, Chinese and English. I'm using for Japanese and the pronunciation is much better & more realistic than Google translate. I like that you can favorite phrases to use later. Includes flash cards
This is better than Google translate, but still not good. There NEEDS to be a feature to input corrections/suggestions. It has all "subnida" translations as not honorific...um...no. Plus it is awful with numbers/time. Lately voice translations just fill in whatever sounds and you're like, "I literally didn't say that." I'm lucky to have run into so many people that speak English or I might have offended someone by now.
Utilized in South Korea for a year and a half. Its alot better than other translators. I talk with my Korean family alot so I'm going from korean to english, while at work english to korean. I'm able to communicate 90percent of the time. Some phrases are lost in translation due to slang or odd names of stores etc. Still not perfect, but if you keep it simplistic you'll be fine. If you use complex, dynamic words and long sentences.... your going to have some funny translations. Good luck, enjoy.
Papago used to be great, but I had to decrease the stars because there have been constant issues within the last 6 months and the audio pronunciation doesn't work. I have to keep clearing the cache and forcing stop. Quite annoying. Also notice the everyday definition no longer shows and the context version is awkward. When the honorific button is turned off, I still get honorific word or phrase. Not sure what's changed, but change back, because the AII translate doesn't work well.
Amazing app in my opinion. I like buying books in different languages even though I can't speak that language at the moment and saw how well it translates and some native speakers recommended it to me and I wanna write a review for if you need to translate books or anything it has great features in camera and even teaches you the language a little with a little guide.
really helpful, especially given you can translate images, I mainly use it for Japanese, but it does have other languages, the fact that I can translate something with an image is so nice (apparently there is also a real time translate feature, but haven't tried out personally) the images don't even get saved to your phone, which is a plus to me, I don't need hundreds of blurry Japanese text in my album, and it stays that way.
I'm a driving instructor and recently I have had requests from the Asian community to teach them. I know just basic greetings so a friend recommended this app as it has both txt and speech recognition and translates so well. Looking forward to making new connections.
Really like this app. Way better than Google translate. I love the image translation the most. I can translate signs and double check my work when I'm writing stuff out.
I love it because I play a game with Koreans and this way I can read what they wrote to keep up with a conversation and know what's going on but what I don't like is that they're constantly asking me to keep my pictures. to give them more access than they need.
Dear Papago Team, I would like to share a small suggestion. There are many Nepali students and employees living and working abroad, including in South Korea. However, Papago still does not support the Nepali language, which creates difficulty for many users in daily communication. Adding Nepali language support would be very helpful for Nepali speakers and would make Papago more inclusive and useful for a wider global audience. I believe this feature would benefit both users.
I use it when travelling to Korea. It helps a lot when translating impprtant Public Alert pop up in my handphone. Good job Korea !
this app really helps me to find new words and even I want to translate a big essay, this app helps me so much. since I started to learn Korean, I installed this app. because lot of people said that this app is really helpful translating. I really experienced it now. so, I think all the Korean learner even the expert of languages should keep this app.
The app works great and comes closer than any other translator apps to properly translating what I'm trying to say in English into Korean. A built in translation feature that can work inside of other apps would make this even better to reduce toggling back and forth between Papago and other apps.
This app is very easy to use. I love that I can also use the camera to translate in real time or save pictures to be translated later. It is easy to copy and paste the text to be translated or the translation. The conversation option only works well if the speaker is close to you, speaks slowly and 1 phrase at a time.
No voice detected. Most if the languages don't have voice recognition. So there is no point to install this raw app
good app, easy to use and nice tools. Lags sometimes, especially with photos
