Terrible web page, takes forever to load, or doesn't load at all. If I could have rated at zero stars, I would have. Update: nothing has changed. They should really examine their IT department. If possible, this app has gotten worse. Only recourse is to use Chrome to access the website and skip the app completely. New edit: new device, same old issues.
The app has not worked since before Christmas. It just flashes. Update 3/25/21: After being told to update and reinstall the new app, the app continues to not work. It still flashes and blinks, freezing my phone. I am a paid digital subscriber and have been charged for months of papers that I cannot read on my phone. Very upsetting that this is still an issue. Update 7/19/21: As you can see, it took over 7 months to resolve this issue! As of today, the app no longer flickers and crashes.
So I get alerts all of the time from the app. Click the alert to read, it takes me to a screen where it and me to login, but that doesn't work and it brings me right back to the original login page and not the landing page where the news article is... Update... So I updated the app like I was asked, no difference. The problem still exists. I receive a headline from Newsday, click it to read, then it asks if I'm a subscriber to log in. Click to log in and that's where everything stops.
I must say, this Newsday app has improved since the last time I used it. Of course, having just said that, I noticed that the article text size setting does not stick when Settings are closed. And FAQs leads to a "Page not found message." So far, minus one star. You want to increase Newsday readership through using your app? You have to pay attention to the details. EDIT: Down to one star due to Newsday's shell game system of price increases. First year is fine, then they lower the boom.
While Newsday is a great source for news in the Long Island region the app is annoying and getting worse. There are ads on a banner at the bottom of the screen distracting from the reading of articles. Extra annoying for paid subscribers. Update: The confirmation pop up on exit is gone - thank you. Copy no longer works so now one must open an article in a browser to track down words or phrases without retyping. The app does not work in the European Union because of privacy issues.
No matter what the platform, it freezes, stalls and crashes. It takes longer to wade through the stories. God forbid we should miss cuisine and recreational venues. Thanks for the glitz & ads that are disguised as news stories. What happened to journalism?! With the new update, you still can't open Top Stories. Great Job, Techno-Nerds! You even raised the price! Since July 2021, the story selected often can't be seen. Another story is there!!
Slow.......to open. I'm a paid subscriber and this app will take ages to open. I really don't know why but it's the slowest App I've ever used. Most times I don't even wait for it to open, really poor. Great when it finally opens though... Although you'll have several more days of news to read as it takes the long to open.
I started reading Newsday as a kid in about, what, 1970? This app is truly one of the best I've come across AND it's Newsday. Great combination.
1/7/21 -- Absolute garbage. Does not work at all. Even after the supposed fix, after deleting it, rebooting phone, and reinstalling it, screen flashes blue and black and app does not load. If I could give zero stars, I would. 3/17/21 -- Thank you for the email telling me the app has been updated. It still does not work. Every word of my previous review still applies.
Takes too long to load. Doesn't connect directly to links I click in their notifications. I canceled my print subscription when I realized that I was paying around $2,000/yr. I now subscribe online for $!.00/wk. I used to read the paper cover to cover, but don't have the patience for the online back and forth.
App worked for a week before malfunctioning (once again). I am using a Samsung Galaxy note8. The app tries to start-up but begins flickering and never loads. This is the only app that has ever behaved this way. My initial thought when it happened after first installing it months ago was that my phone malfunctioned; strange. NEWSDAY should have this addressed.
Horrible app. I download and installed and then Open. Works great. It never works again. The next time I go into app, it just shows blue screen with Newsday splashed on it. Never opens. The next time I try the app locks my phone completely. I deleted the app and reinstslled. Same exact problem. Galaxy Note 10 +5G. Glad subscription was just $1 because the app is worthless. Yeah I can read in Chrome but fix fhe darned app.
Horrendous.. App hasn't worked on Android devices with no fixes or even an explanation from company that we pay for this service...Subscribe to a different paper....UPDATE: Hey, thanks for the response months later stating the app is being updated...Guess what? No update and no fixes. Thanks Newsday.. Pathetic. 0 stars...3rd times a charm? Nope...Received 3rd message from customer service regarding a fix.. Newsday app is a waste of money....Going on 4 months of not working...
Same experience as others. App does not open anymore with frozen blue screen on brand new android device. Update : Nothing has changed since updating the app. Screen still freezes with blue screen and will not open. 2nd update : Updated app again with supposed fix but again, nothing has changed. Same frozen blue screen and app does not open. 3rd update: rec'd email from developer asking me to update app with fix. Happy to report that app works perfectly now. Thank you for all your effort!
Glitchy performance, worse w new update; flashes black/blue screen, never loads. Before this update, at least app opened, albeit very slowly. 3/19/21 The update on 3/17 did not resolve issue on Android. Flashes blue screen + does not open. 3/26/21 Deleted then reloaded app, unfortunately new update did not fix, still flashes blue/black. 5/6/21 Was a customer since 2003, just had to cancel. After paying $50/mo for digital access that doesn't work, cust service wd not refund any amt, moving on!
The app takes a ridiculously long time to upload. Numerous typographical and content errors on a daily basis. Newsday has been going downhill for decades. I recently cancelled my subscription and they couldn't even get that right. With all of the superior free online news outlets don't waste your money or your time with Newsday.
App takes forever to load content and the puzzle section just doesn't work anymore at all. For the last week I get nothing but a blank screen. Uninstalled and reinstalled, still doesn't work. Crappy app that is too slow .. easier to just Google news
The content is awful. I fundamentally disagree with the compilation of AP articles. I would rather see local articles about local issues written by local writers. I want NEWS from my NEWSpaper. It's like reading a tabloid filled with the outrageous opinions of the editorial board and "feel good" stories. It's tough to read sometimes, honestly.
Annoying. Can't use app of my choice to share. I can only choose from Samsung apps and other apps I don't use for sharing or have disabled. Can't simply choose Google Messages or Gmail for text and email, which is what I use. I can't understand why a basic feature available in any other app is hard for Newsday.
Very happy with this app. Love having Newsday and local headlines at my fingertips. But today found an ad for erectile dysfunction in the middle of an article. "Men 55+ use this to get hard". I am sick that such an ad is featured in a supposedly family friendly publication. I don't know who/what is in charge of the ads but this is not acceptable!
