Terrible, it's nice to be able to watch the shows, but having to use the app is almost not worth it. Half the time it doesn't even start, then the screen will just stay blue. Also logging in took me 5 tries, as it just didn't work. The "next episode" button is not there and it is not easy to find the next episode, you have to look it all up again for every new episode you want to watch. Casting also works for 1 ep, but the app has to be restarted as it disconnects after every episode.
Terrible app. Developed by amateurs. You can't save shows to your watch list. You can't access shows you've previously watched to continue watching except using the search function. You can't get easily to the next episode; you have to return to the show, find the next episode, then click, then click again. You need Chromecast to watch on your smart TV. Not even worth the 3 euro monthly charge. This is a pity as there are some good British shows on there. If you can find them, that is.
Very bad app! While casting, volume controls on your mobile device won't work anymore. Only when you stop casting. Also casting in general doesn't work, it says it's connected to my TV but it still plays from the device itself. Thought I try it via the smart tv app, also doesn't work. The tv app crashes everytime when navigating to the live channels. Won't recommend this app!
The latest update resulted in me not being able to watch any video anymore, as every video returns: "Afspelen mislukt". Edit June 2022: playing videos works now. However when switching between apps and returning, videos often report that the video is no longer available. Force stopping and re-opening the app fixes the issue, but is not a working solution. Otherwise I do use the app almost daily, so it is kinda usable. Also logs me out frequently, forgets playback positions.
Video player is horribly dysfunctional. If you pause a video for just a bit too long, it won't respond when you try to continue. Trying to rewind or go to a certain point in the video leads to unresponsiveness as well. Casting to an Android TV doesn't come without its problems too. If you press the 30 second-rewind button, it'll go unresponsive as well. Honestly, wouldn't be using it if it wasn't my only option to legally watch all episodes of Killing Eve.
Was working fine before the update, but my favourites are gone and when logged in (paying for plus) I'm unable to watch anything ( I get an error saying the video can't be played). I did like the idea of clicking on the news (NOS Journaal) and getting the latest video, although this seems to be faulty as well (marking the 8 o'clock news of the previous day as the latest). Cancelled my subscription as I can not use the app while being logged in.
The website worked fine on mobile, but now we are forced to use this app. On the website I used to be able to play a video, that kept playing in the background. It allowed me to simply listen while doing other stuff. The app doesn't have that functionality and it forces me to keep my phone unlocked and not use it for anything else.. I just want to listen to the debates without having to have my phone unlocked, unusable, and drained of battery due to the screen being on.. Bring the website back.
This app is super frustrating... The videos lag constantly, if you close the app then open it again you need to close the entire app, find the same program, wait for it to load and skip to where you left off if you want to continue watching. You're better off just watching it on your browser, at least then you can have a minimized window and properly watch it. Also, when your phone goes from wifi to mobile data for a second, the program is "not available anymore", which means another restart.
Terrible app. Don't download. Went from mediocre to unusable. No way to favourite shows. Everything loads horribly slowly and half doesn't load at all. So no pictures, missing ribbons, no descriptions, no episodes listed, etc. Doesn't remember which profile on my subscription is watching, so I have to choose every single time I open the app. Aesthetically ugly. No app settings. No account settings. Can't change payment bank account. Genuinely offensive. Abandon all hope ye who enter here.
I never write a review but this app is one of the most faulty apps out there. Every update something goes wrong. This time I can't cast at all, I can cast fine with Prime or Netflix and I can cast NPO stuff from my desktop. But it's painfully obvious that the devs don't care about the quality of their service; and I even pay a monthly fee. What a sad display of skill.
app is terrible, after so many years it still didnt get the technical love it deserves.
Sometimes it works fine, but a lot of the time videos won't play continuously and buffer for 10+ seconds for every 5 seconds of streaming. Really unusable at those times. Downgraded to one star. I just spent 33 minutes to watch 8 minutes of content. The rest of the time was spent staring at a loading icon with 5 second intervals. Fix this or make the content available again in the NOS app that was working fine until we were forced to use this one. Edit; lately the app has become more stable
Pretty frustrating. Every action (pause, switch apps for a sec, rotate screen) results in the program stopping with the message "dit programma is niet meer beschikbaar" and you have to start over, sometimes restart the app. I like to use live TV on Chromecast but it doesn't show the time the program was aired, only the last 3 hours, so you have to calculate back if you want to start from the beginning.
Was good, now useless. Unstable as all hell, completely freaks out if you even slightly tilt your device, resulting in video playback breaking. The radio streams are so absurdly broken in this app you're better off with any proper media player and just pulling the feeds in that. We won't even go into them paywalling content you already paid for with your taxes+ads. How did you manage to make it worse? Now the radio live page show video streams that of course dont work with the screen off.
Can't load any video! Previously the app worked quite ok, although the chromecast integration was not working well all the time.. But since a few weeks it does not load any video anymore, except for the commercials when I am not logged in, these play instantly! I have restarted my S7 and reinstalled the app a few times, without improvement. Considering I have a paid subscription, this app behaves ridiculous and this situation is unacceptable.
This is such a useless app. Was vreat in the past and used it all the time to watch the news. Now it just keeps buffering and unable to watch the program. Have deleted and reinstalled the app several time without any succes. Same buffering problem remains. Tried on different tv's, same problem!!! Even watching it just on my phone is useless too, as it just buffers on that as well. It is about time you fix this problem. Not the only one who has complained about this!!!
The app is completely broken on Android TV. You can only watch free content. Navigating to any of the other panes crashes the app. This makes it impossible to log in! Barring the user from watching any of the contents that they pay their subscription for. To add injury to insult. THIS PROBLEM HAD PERSISTED 1.5 YEARS, AND HAS YET TO BE FIXED.
Makes it unnecessarily hard to unsubscribe from NPO Plus. Instead of it being an easy turn on/off option in settings, the app redirects you to the browser, forcing you to log in again, which then directs you to another NPO Plus ad page instead of actually cancelling your subscription. You'll have to navigate to the same settings within that browser -again- to cancel your subscription. Many unnecessary 'walls' to stop those wanting to unsubscribe... A little shady if you ask me.
Was not very good. Clumsy, unresponsive. Loses connection with chromecast regularly Forgets where you are All of that got worse. On the dark side: On apple, it refuses to work 9 out of 10 times. Oh and it does want you to log in. That is, it logs you out without telling you. When one tries to play something, it simply does.... Nothing. Instead of telling you to login.... Very "intelligent"..... NOT On top of that... No info. No actor or director names, no release year, no country/language info.
The app itself works good. But I would love to see an option for English subtitles on programmes. It would be nice if foreigners in our country can watch this stuff too, especially because some of it is educational and informative and should be available to everyone in The Netherlands.
