Hi Oxford Press. I am not impressed by this subscription scheme. I very much preferred the previous way, paying one time for the app and that's it. It's like I go to the book store and buy a paperback dictionary, I don't pay a monthly or yearly fee to the store just to gain access to the book. This is ridiculous and it's not worth it in my opinion. But if it's one off, I'd love to pay and own it, like the previous editions I owned. So at the moment, I will keep using the 9th Edition till forever or until you move back to one-off payment scheme in the next edition. Great dictionary. Good app. Bad way of business. Not impressed at all.
Dear OALD team! Oxford dictionaries are so good and I love them, but wouldn't say this is a good application as it can't fulfil my necessities for a dictionary app and I would pay for it if it could. It lacks features like a "text selection pop-up menu" option and "appear on top" to search words on the go and a reviewing option for the learner based on "spaced repetition" techniques to help them memorize their "newly learnt" words they added, are several to name. My sincere contribution
I like this helpful dictionary, but I have a difficulty reaching my content. I have a yearly subscription for the all 3 dictionaries of Oxford, then today is supposed to be renewal date, it was 17.99$, and the payment has been declined, I tried to fix the problem but no vain. Then I canceled the subscription, and try to resubscribe again with the new price of 20$, and no success to. Then I have found that I lost my favorites and my folders, and even can not subscribe again. Please help me.
Don't buy this app! The biggest drawback in this app is the words you save under "my favourites" will be erased if the app is reinstalled in case of change of device. They aren't saved to your account! If so, how can this dictionary be useful for learners! You can't sign in to the app due to technical error. Customer service department is useless! slow response! There is room for a lot of improvement. I didn't expect an oxford dictionary of this substandard!!!!! Highly disappointed!
The app is great, and the content is very good, I love the fact that it has so many sentences recorded by native speakers. I had bought a monthly subscription, but after some time of working well it stopped responding and I just couldn't open it! It kept saying that I was subscribed but I just couldn't use it! Such a great frustration and disappointment! That's why I had to unsubscribe...
Prohibitively expensive. That's OALD in a nutshell. I've purchased the ninth and the tenth editions and the only upside is that you can download the content and view it when you're offline. The thing is, with internet connectivity getting better and rivals getting better, you don't really need it unless a dictionary is part of your professional requirement. Now, if they'd bundled at least a Thesaurus, I'd have given a glowing five-star review. The app also needs to be faster.
I could be fantastic. Congrats to the developers! However, I won't 5-star it nor suscribe because there are no separate entries for the most difficult words in English: phrasal verbs. E.g., "give off", like in "the fire does not give off much heat" should be a separate entry, I would like to be able to list it in my favorites. On the other hand, "give back" should not be listed in the phrasal verbs and does not deserve a separate entry, it is just an example of normal use of "give" and "back".
I had purchased the previous version, the 9th edition, but to my great disappointment, OUP removed it from Play Store. This is not fair!.. Besides, the 9th edition was a lot better with its back and next arrows in the top right-hand corner. When you looked up another word in an entry and another one in the 2nd one, and for example, a 3rd one in the 2nd one, and so on, those arrows would allow you to navigate all the words you looked up. It's also a pity they are not there now...
I'm really angry with the subscription scheme. I understand that it's because the other scheme was not making you enough money but I rarely use the dictionary to justify paying for the subscription. I truly enjoyed edition 9 so much so that I bought it 5 times (windows, os, iOS, android, paper). I also bought the other two dictionaries: collocations and thesaurus. I wanted to buy the one of academic English and the one of use of English but after seeing what you did to the dictionary, I won't.
Great dictionary. I bought it because I trust Oxford over others as I want UK English but the price is too high. Please include a one-time purchase option. I don't want to pay every year 10$. CD version is much more affordable comparing to this costly subscription. It will be very helpful if there is a one-time purchase option available.
Hi! I'm not a fan of subscription plans, the only reason why I've subscribed is the bundle (dictionary + collocations + thesaurus) and the fact that the respective apps previously bought are no longer updated. As long as this seems to be the way forward (subscription plan), I would like to make some suggestions for improvement (mainly the app) but due to the word limit here on Google Play, I'd like to have a regular email address available in order to elaborate. Thanks!
My favorite dictionary from my dream University. But, why don't you provide it without monthly/yearly subscription? You can add up more to it's cost but please make it available @one time purchase. This is not a good deal for students. Think about it. Btw, dark mode is very appreciable. No doubt It's a great dictionary in every aspect, however I'm not going to buy it again because of yearly subscription.
This app provides some unique features such as audio pronunciation, word of origin and extra examples that are of help to English learners. It's also possible to create my own folders to collect and review new words during acquisition, which would facilitate language learning on a daily basis in an efficient way. A feedback of improvement on flexibility, hopefully the folder name in 'favorites' can be still changed and the word order in each list can be adjusted by dragging in future version.
I have been using the older version of this dictionary for years. However, the latest android system no long support the older version, so I download this app and decided to buy the license version, however, the app keep prompt me that it could not connect to Google Play. Another thing is that I am quite disappointed that user has to pay either monthly or yearly in order to use the dictionary, unlike the older version, user only needs to pay once.
It is good, but needs some more feature to be added like: antonyms, thesaurus, collocation, which word etc. In mobile version because the computer version has, and don't be concerned about size, the quality is more important. Some words american English Phonetic alphabets(IPA) are not too much correct, please work on that issue. at the end I want to thank you for your tries and please make Oald mobile a comprehensive guide to all English learners.
Same problem like with many of the other reviewers: Suddenly the app is reduced to the preview stage as if I had not subscribed at all. SOLUTION: This seems to happen when Google Play Store has been put to sleep or deep sleep, which is usually done by the phone's owner, in this case by myself. Wake it up and OALD works again. So it is not a true offline-capable app in the end, which is too bad!
The best dictionary ever. I don't think there's still a reason to delete it despite the drawbacks I'm encountering. I have been trying to activate paid version but anytime I link my card to subscribe, there comes out an error. I tried many possibly means to sort it out but to no avail 😔. I uninstalled and reinstalled but to no avail. Please provide any rendable assistance.
the best ever dictionary app. i cant wait to check what are even better it is the source of thinking and info. i have to wonder why the entry of Hong Kong is removed in the app, and even on the web. for every uk related place, there are usually an article that introduces more. those articles are always good to read and learn. the pronounciation button. better put back to the right end of the pronounciation letters. easier for the right thumb to reach. usually i first read the p letters
Being a teacher of the English Language, I have always rated OALD the first. I enjoyed the 9th edition's android app version. But this 10th edition is somewhat too expensive both at monthly and annual options. I will suggest you add the third option of "one-off purchase"and let it be affordable. It is then I can wholistically rate the app. For now, I rate three.
We need more content, the app is good and super convenient. I have no ad problem or any common problem just like any educational app from the store. This is a good starter for beginner that just started studying English, this app provides everything you need suffix, prefix, adverb, conjunctions, prepositions, and any other basics and fundamentals in English.
