What a shameless and greedy company. 0 stars. Predatory subscription model. The app is also poorly designed.
overall it's a pretty good app, the "communities" (hobbies) stickers are convenient to get a quick feel of personality of people, and there is a function to search only among people who share your interests. on the wrong side though, you won't get anywhere without buying a subscription, and the website is not very foreigner friendly, typically you can't select the text in people's presentation on the app (you can with a PC), which means that you can't copy paste it in Google translate 😥
Beware of predatory billing. Even if you pay for a month you won't be able to use it for the whole period because the service requires you to cancel over 24 hours before your renewal date, and will block access as soon as you cancel. It also can't be used from outside of Japan, so be careful when traveling. I was able to contact them about this but they refused to lift the region lock or refund my lost time. While I do like the Mytag (communities) system, the overall experience is lacking.
Waste of time. Shame there are no zero stars here. I tried to register, firstly I got to the point of taking the photo of my ID - several seconds after my submission I got blocked. It kept saying that I'm not allowed to register. I sent an email to the support - no answer. Several days later I tried to register again, this time I kept getting the error that the service is not available in my area. I live in Tokyo, been here for 8 years, full time employee, I sent emails in Japanese. Rubbish.
Pure Money grab with too few users. Even after paying for premium still reading messages feature was not unlocked and only 20 extra likes were given. Even after paying for that (9,000 yen in total) still many other features were NOT unlocked, they remain behind the points paywall. So, it is just a money grab with vague explanations. Besides there are very few users. Unless you are willing to shell out a lot of money, don't use this app.
ID confirmation can be tricky but it works. If you have a grounding in Japanese, it will of course help (after all, you are probably meeting Japanese people) but there are bilinguals and Anglophones too. Men have to pay for a premium subscription to message matches back: do not forget to end this when you finish. Otherwise, interface is fine provided you understand the language to know what is what. I double-matched with someone on two apps, but Pairs let me find them first in a straight fight!
I installed it and started using it to check if it’s truly reliable because I intended to pay for the service. However, I encountered a scammer trying to sell sex and giving the wrong address. Be careful, because the app lacks a reporting option, and as a result, there are likely many scammers since there’s no punishment for them.
Tl;dr: literal scam The credit card billing system is predatory, the prepaid cards to avoid it cost extra. The likes and points systems are stingy at best but you HAVE to pay in order to see messages that you receive, meaning you can't tell what the other person says till you fork up the cash, and I'm sure it's to avoid users finding out this app is populated entirely by bots and scammers. Spent a month on this app and encountered almost purely bots and scammers, it's insane. I want a refund.
Pairs has an interface like scrambled eggs. Hidden charges and hidden restrictions are core to their business strategy. At every turn they are in your face with sales pitches and pointless distractions. They offer subscription plans for single periods (1mth, 3mth, 6mth) but provide auto-renewal without ever mentioning it, an unpleasant surprise when it turns up on your credit card. In other words, they are credit card fraudsters.
Pairs has a policy of requiring you to upload a picture of an ID to let you interact with other users, which is fine by me. However upon uploading a picture of my passport, I was immediately banned from the site. I tried again with my Japanese insurance card using a different email and again got banned with no explanation whatsoever. With those exact same pictures I was able to verify my Tinder and Omiai accounts. I strongly suspect Pairs has an anti-gaijin policy.
This is just an app for taking your money. It doesn't matter how much you pay, you have to continue paying more and more: premium membership (can't do anything), give likes, extra pay, contact someone, extra pay, replay message extra pay... No no, this is just a thieves app
There are many good points to this app. Aside from the abnormally expensive sub fee required for men, the services you get access to are reasonable and quite nice. With that said, the number of fake profiles on the app have gotten out of control and the point usage inflation has also gone crazy. In short, ~50%+ of the profiles are fake/bots and none get removed. In the past year I had ~200 matches and about 70% turned out to be fake no replies. This app it's just all bots now 😥😥
Monthly subscription is too expensive if you're not willing to commit for 6 months or more. You need one to talk with matches. I didn't know that if you tried to link your SNS, you would get banned. No warning about being banned at all, it just happened after the second time I tried to put it in my status. While I was considering getting a subscription, I can't now...
Terrible customer support! My account got suspended suddenly and out of nowhere when I was trying to verify my identity without a proper explanation and just an email alluding to some vague article from terms and conditions. When I email the customer support, with all details and explain my situation, they take days to respond and keep sending me the same canned response telling me they can't find my account.
Useless for foreigners for 2 reasons: 1. You can't search people by spoken language. 2. Doesn't allow copy & paste of profile text (ie: to translate) Update: almost 2 years later and searching by spoken language was never implemented, despite what they wrote here. Meanwhile they made other updates and now it's even worse than before, I have to restart it constantly.
If I could give this app zero stars, I would. The company is lying when they say this is a free app. Pairs is a dating app that makes its money by over charging desparate men for basic dating app services. Women don't have to pay at all. If the man sends the first message, it's free. But if he gets a response, he can't read it unless he signs up for a 3590円 MONTHLY subscription! AND if he decides to take a risk and use the free message to give contact info, they will threaten him with a ban.
ゴミです! I have an important warning for any foreign men using this app. Apparently, there are a huge number of fake female profiles (operated by Japanese guys) on Pairs, and these accounts are used to especially target you and get you completely banned from the platform. Even if you have a subscription and have done nothing wrong, expect to have a bogus complaint filed against you and perma-banned within a matter of weeks. There is no appeal process and Pairs always rules against you.
Don't waste your time, as a man even if match with someone nice you can't chat for free
waste of time for the men. everything is paid apart of it even if you pay. most of the accounts are fake
You have to pay a minimum of 4800 yen to use the app in any way. If you read this I hope it saved your time because I wasted a lot of mine before finding that out.
