It used to be a great app, but they've made changes that suck. Now I've got money sitting in my account I can't use, they claim it's fees that weren't taken yet. I've had 2 disputes and they resolved against me. They took away instant transfers to your debit cards and bank. *As of Feb '26 it's been reinstated.* Had a money transfer that was returned to me, that I never got back and they blamed on the other party's bank, it had no part in it. And I've had money just disappear. from my account.
Okay, why is it that sometimes cash back rewards instantly calculate but other times it'll stay pending? I had one pending for three months, some for several days, while most of them clear within minutes. This is my only complaint. But, I do have a bunch of friends that stopped using PayPal. One because someone hacked and stole their money and PayPal didn't investigate it for them, an other because some reason money started disappearing off their linked bank card while they weren't using it....
I've been with PayPal quite a while. as an online bank they are ok. HOWEVER . they do not seem to honor the rewards program that they offer. they are supposed to pay 5% back to you on certain purchases. I chose groceries. and I have spent over $400 in the past two months and they have not added the rewards compensation. I have sent 9 e mails without response. so I called today and I have to wait 2 days on call back while they investigate! it should not be this hard to collect what they offer!
app doesn't work anymore. if you try to go to credit, it reloads for about 5 minutes and then says unavailable. this has been going on for weeks. According to PayPal, somehow their app is a bank issue and nothing to do with them. synchrony bank rightfully blames PayPal. seems like both sides know it's a problem but no one has a solution so until it's fixed I don't recommend using PayPal at all. you can't view or pay for your transactions right now.
I'm not sure what has happened, but my entire account is messed up. Transactions that never happened, no receipt for transactions that did happen. Crazy excuses to refuse moving money or accepting payments. Log in issues every single day! Asked to verify personal info over and over and over. constantly having to login to make any kind of money movement. Sickening.
They did something to mess it up. I suspect they're trying to push PayPal users into new credit cards or debit systems to generate more revenue for PayPal, but actions that used to be simple and straightforward are now unnecessarily complicated. For example transferring my PayPal balance to my bank account used to be very straightforward, but now the setting is buried. I clicked on the wrong thing multiple times before I finally scrolled way down and found what I was looking for.
I gave the app 2 stars because it's literally impossible to pay your Paypal Credit bills on the app. Every time I try linking my bank account, it says it was successful and that I can close the window but it doesn't save my linked bank to my Paypal account. I've probably tried this over 10 times already and it's frustrating. I have to keep calling to make payments now. Don't add a screen that exits out of Paypal Credit and removes all of the progress made to link your bank account.
Literally unusable. Every time I open the app, I just get an error screen that says "something went wrong" with a link to open PayPal in my browser. Since I can't open the app, it gets zero stars, but since I can't pick zero I guess it gets one star. Also, the "support email" in the play store is invalid, emailing gets you a response saying that mailbox isn't used anymore.
App won't let me log in at all. Clicking "Log In" sends me to the MFA Phone Verification, but then automatically boots me back to the main login once the MFA loads. Looks like a bug in the software, but it's critical. Their site works in browser, both PC and Mobile, but the app is broken and has started locking me out of the other locations, too. At this point, it's more hassle than it's worth, at least on my phone's architecture.
I was really excited for the Pay-In-4 option. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, I got two charges at the same time for it. One went through, the other showed pending for awhile, both charges were took out of my bank account. Now only one shows up in the app, I still have the double charge on my bank account, everything I've tried to do about it they either have treated it like the Seller charged me twice, or tell me I can't file a dispute about it. This is ridiculous.
The worst customer service call center I've ever dealt with. Reps will ignore everything you say, repeat the same thing over and over again, refuse to let you speak to management, and never call you back. Yes this is a repetitive thing that has happened multiple times. Yes there is an account with my info that has money I'll never be able to access because of this. Absolutely laughable that anyone at the call centers can say they "work".
Worked fine for years. Now everytime I open it it says "Something Went Wrong" and offers me to open in web. I've cleared data and cache, signed in multiple times, Uninstalled, reinstalled. Everytime it opens to the main page of my account and immediately goes to the error message. Disappointing because I use this fairly regularly.
They took everything off the website to force you to use their garbage app so they can mine your data. Excellent. What a great way to treat customers. The app doesn't even work properly. This is amazing customer support. Who wouldn't want a service that is unpleasant to use and sells your data to third parties. Took everything good about PayPal and threw it in the trash and now we have this.
Update: You all need to fix the "Add Note" feature. Every time I try to add a note to a payment, the keyboard pulls up for a second, & then disappears. The keyboard won't stay up long enough to enter anything in the field. It is extremely annoying. ⚠️THIS APP IS STILL NOT SECURE!!!⚠️ It pro mpts for a fingerprint only 1 time, and then opens up without it, after the first initial prompt. The fingerprint should be required any & everytime you open or close the app. THAT IS NOT GOOD!!!
their customer service is so bad it would be better if they had none at all. they dont read anything you send them they just reply with standard troubleshooting messages even though you've asked the same question 6 times. on top of that they intentionally make it hard to access data and privacy settings by making sure it's broken in the app and doesn't work, and is super hidden and hard to get to in the browser. 13 years I've had paypal, its changed in the last few. no more, im done.
This is definitely the worst thing that happened since the wwII. it's a super complicated and difficult app to navigate around, they make the biggest issue of the smallest deal, and there's nobody to talk to. their customer service is 98% an operator and once you finally get through to talk to an agent they can't help you or reverse a move that happened and they blame it on the automated system, basically saying that the automated system messed up and there's nothing to do.
Passcode security used to be good until the most recent app update last week. Now, instead of obscuring the passcode entry field by default as it used to (and as is standard design everywhere else), it displays characters in the clear by default, requiring us to manually click on the eyeball icon to ensure they're replaced with *s. Not only that, but I keep getting nagged to set up a passkey, but I get the error message "Something went wrong" everytime I try! Rated a 2/5 for these issues.
I've been with PayPal for over a decade but now it's a risk keeping money in the app. I only make online purchases and maybe send and receive money between my wife and kids. No issues until 2 days ago when account was restricted with over $260 balance that I had no access to it. I submitted all documents and descriptions they asked for. A day later I noticed app going from review to locked with no explanation saying I can't move funds for 120 days. when I called they said July 14.
Paypal added the option to add stickers to your payment notes. But the sticker screen sits on top of the keyboard and completely covers the text of my note. I have to resize my keyboard to the smallest it can go to see what I'm typing. This is probably an issue for me because I have the display scale enlarged on my phone due to old eyes. There needs to be a way to make that sticker screen go away when it's not needed.
a bit clunky to navigate. NO explanation of fees anywhere. If I'm purchasing something, I want to pay the insurance, not the seller. There is no option for this. If I agree a sale price with someone then go to send the money I can't pay that fee, I have to manually calculate it, but I can't do that as you don't clearly state anywhere what the fee is. I spent almost half an hour looking and gave up. I don't want to have to then try and get the seller to send an invoice...it's too much hassle.
