Cannot connect to the server. Since the January update I have not been able to use any features in the app. when I had access, the app was working perfectly. I am able to seamlessly use all features including PAK, remote conditioning, etc. Would like to return to a stable application again soon.
I love this app for locking my car when I forget (it should auto lock) and for starting the climate control ahead of time. My only complaint at this point is that the charging notification is no longer an option. Please bring that back! I really like having a persistent notification to show the charging speed. PAK is very flakey, but that's not a big deal for me. I just carry a key.
This app has come a long way in the last 2 years. The main problem I have now is the very infrequent times when it logs you out of the app, which then requires me to log in before I can unlock or start my car. If you're in an area with no cell service you could be left without a way to drive your car until you manage to get Internet access and log in. This would be a major hassle, and I would probably return with a 1 star review if it happened.
The app quite regularly logs me out for no reason, which is a pain. Now it wants me to pair with a car again, which is a pain and frustrating. Why? And I can't pair it again as the app, despite my phone being connected to the car. When it does work it would be good to have greater control of the car. For instance if I turn on climate control remotely I should be able to decide on the temperature whereas it defaults to 22 degrees, which isn't ideal if it's mega hot or cold outside.
The app does keep getting better and better. Kudos to the development team. It's great for setting charge level, preconditioning, and checking basic stats about the vehicle. I'll never be able to trust the digital key after getting stranded with no way home and a toddler in the back seat. This is about the only feature I'd steer away from.
Dear Diary - The new UI of the app is better. I like the one touch (on/off) instead of having to go into a setting to turn it on. I still think there's more that could be done to make it better. The car is fantastic, but the app doesn't match with it. Also, the digital key no longer work on Pixel 8. Again, I still think they could add more functions. Dear Diary edit - the recent update is very slow at connecting to the car to pull information. Also, digital key still does not work.
Used to be great? As of the Nov 27th update it just force closes after a few seconds. Can't figure out why. Completely unusable. Was going to come back and change my rating to say that they've fixed it, but the issue persists. And then you have to reset the app, go find the 2nd key, repair everything, and hope that it works again for more than a few days before the app starts to force close immediately.
Update: Backing down to one star. The app is logging me out on a regular basis now for some reason. This is a major downgrade in my opinion. Not happy. ------------ The app is definitely improved. It could use additional options like turning on seat heaters, steering wheel heater, opening the trunk, or alerting if the alarm has been triggered. Basically there's still room for improvement.
The app usually works but doesn't do much. Seriously this could do some seriously useful things. First the digital key is flaky at best (I just use a physical key because of it). The remote climate works maybe 10% of the time and I have to reset the app to get it to work once. Features that are obvious but missing. Send directions to the car so the GPS is ready when I get in the car. Open or close the rear trunk. Unlock the charging cable, control climate (turn on/off heated seats or set temp)
I love the car but the app is garbage. It only works a fraction of the time, and doesn't fully function as a digital key with my phone 99% of the time. It often won't fully sync with the car and will tell me my range, parking location, allow me to lock/unlock the doors, but yet somehow it won't let me turn on my climate control to cool my car? I live in the desert where it's 112°+ during the summer, that's literally the most important feature to me.
Cannot login, it gets stuck on a screen that says: "Success - Welcome to your personal space" Update: able to login and even managed to pair the app with my Polestar. Nevertheless, app continues to be useless, as it "forgets" the pairing and tells me to pair it again, which is not possible as the car still remembers it. Total waste of time, sadly it's not possible to rate zero stars.
I love the car. The app, on the other hand, is absolute garbage. Works how it's supposed to about half the time. How they can get that wrong is amazing. It's supposed to show battery life, allow you to lock/unlock the doors, and to turn on air purifier (which is stupid, allow me to cool or warm the car instead ) Three simple features and they can't get it to work properly. I wish I can give it a lower than one star.
While visually appealing, this app falls well short of its potential when it comes to vehicle interaction. It can only show battery state, toggle door lock status, and toggle climate. As of version 3.18, information is loading significantly faster. Unfortunately, climate control is strictly on/off; you can have any temperature you want as long as it's 72° F / 22° C. On the other hand, Polestar press releases are reliably up to date in the app. 🙄
Edit- it's progressively getting better Extremely unreliable App. Haven't been able to use it to start climate or unlock the doors in the past 5 days. I wouldn't dare rely on it for Phone as a Key (PAK) gives little feedback as to what the issue may be. When everything does work it is nice. Unsure if it's an issue with the App or the car
Expensive car, not expensive tech. One year later: This app continues to be complete garbage. Some updates are good, and then things get broken. PAK is useless and unreliable. This car has been out for three years and their software is still complete garbage. No way in hell would I recommend anyone to buy a Polestar. And they're wanting $100k for future cars coming out... No way. They are not stepping up.
Great car, the app doesn't come close! I'll add one feature request since other reviewers have pointed out existing issues: It would be nice to be able to set the charge limit via the app. Several times I've plugged in and walked away and realized later that I should've changed the limit. Once it was an L2 charger that I planned to leave for hours, but had the limit set low so it stopped charging way too soon. Another time it was a DCfast charger but I had the limit at 100% which I didn't want!
The app is OK but there are very few functionalities. It'd be nice to add: - Fingerprint logging in - since the apps asks you SO often to login, it'd be nice to not have to enter password information every time. - Flash car lights - like if it's in a car park, but too far for the key, do a quick flash. - Summon Car - to take it out of a tight parking space. - 12-volt battery level warnings & notifications - to avoid the seemingly frequent empty battery due to the car not running for a few days
After owning my Polestar for 6 months, I have decided to give 2 stars to the app. I love my car, but hate the app. Not only does the app have very few features, it consistently fails to get information and send commands quickly (if at all), and as of the recent app update, I'm now signed out on a daily basis. I now use Google assistant for remotely interacting with my car (which is an awesome integration, great job on that)
The PS2 is a beautiful car, but this app is wonky. After a) it started burning up my phone's battery, and b) the digital key quit working, I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling. The battery drain stopped, but now the app can't find the Polestar. My phone thinks it's connected to the car & the car thinks it's connected to the phone -- the Bluetooth media connection works perfectly -- but the app says nothing is paired. So no digital key, which would be useful for emergencies.
I've had problems with the car and the app from the beginning. For the cost of this car $65k you'd figure would have a compass, leather seats that wouldn't rip after 8k mi, and an overall sense of exuberance. But it's been nothing but problems it's been to the dealer over a half dozen times for problems with everything from charging to keys to navigation. The latest update for the app just now renders it useless as it returns a message "more than one error received" and you can't do anything.
