Receipt Hog: Cash for Receipts

I enjoy this app when it works. My emails and all my accounts I have connected always disconnect. Takes forever for it to connect or it says " hang tight ran into an issue." But it usually won't reconnect for a really long time. Two step verification is terrible. I always seem to have a problem. It would also be nice if you got more than 25 points when you spend a couple hundred dollars somewhere. It would be nice if there were at least 3 top stores of OUR choice to get the extra points.

After a lengthy back and forth with support, the app suddenly began counting receipts that were always legitimate, about six months later. However, if a receipt is rejected, not only does the reason not match the message attached to it, but it's untrue. For example, an e-reciept may come back as "unreadable image." Not only is it legible, but you can't even see what receipt they're talking about. if it's a paper receipt with that message, you cannot see which one it was. The pt amts are low.

Overall I am giving a 4 star rating because I like Receipt Hog, but I do see areas that need improvement. Scanning takes a few minutes for the receipt to be processed at times. I also have issues with getting "Unreadable image" when I can clearly see the receipt. I have been having issues linking my Amazon account, email, etc., but I believe this may be an issue on my part. Reciept hog is legit. You are guaranteed to reap rewards if you work it right. when my phone went out on me, receipt hog upgraded their format. now you don't know when you receive anything, they can give you anything anytime. I mean point wise. you can't pull two different cards at the same time, because they only tell you what they want as what you earn for points. so I'm not as impressed as I was in the beginning. so beware. they give you points according to them and you can't see anything.

Compared to other similar apps, this one is SUPER annoying. Additional "surveys" after every receipt, you now have to wait for the random confetti to dissipate before you can scan again, too time-consuming. I'm going to wait until I can cash out again and then delete it at this point. 2nd star only because you can actually cash out, but it's not a lot and not worth the time.

Just submitted a round of receipts and it decided to read the last one I submitted to overwrite every receipt before it, as duplicates. It erased the five receipts uploaded before. I resubmitted, and one claimed it couldn't see the date on it when it was clearly there. I had to take a closer picture. This receipt wasn't badly printed yet it still couldn't find the date. Can't earn much unless you link accounts but the trade-off is them being able to read and rewrite anything. This is alarming.

2015 - I like the app. It's user friendly, but it takes so long to accumulate cash. 2024 and I am still using the app. I must say it got better before it got worse. Kinda like they made some updates, then gave it up. Receipts sometimes only give you entries and no points. There is no way to contact customer service and receipts often don't show "report a mistake." FAQs haven't been updated since 2016. Back to 3 stars.

It's an okay app! I've been using it since October 2024, & at the rate I've been snapping paper receipts (about 5 a week, probably), I've made $25 by May 2025. So, basically, it's a very leisurely way to collect some money for a treat every 6 months. It's okay. My only real criticism is, whether it's the app's fault or my phone's, the app crashes at least once every time I turn it on, which gets annoying at times. 3 stars for that✨

Receipt Hog does work. it takes a bit to earn enough to cash out at 1,000 points for $5. I like that it'll send it to my PayPal. I also enjoy that it picks up on online purchases if your accounts are connected. I like the extra little slots game, too, that gives you a chance for more points. Overall, it is a good app that rewards you for the purchases that you make.

UPDATE: In order to get my Amazon account to connect, I had to actually change my password. Once my password was changed, I had no problem connecting my Amazon account to Receipt Hog. I'm changing my initial rank of 2 stars up to 4 stars after connecting them. Problems logging in, problems connecting Amazon account. Had to reinstall, now nothing is connected and I'm having trouble connecting my accounts. I'm getting heavily frustrated! This isn't worth the hassle. ĺ'm fed up with the hassle.

USED to be great. However, now it rejects a good portion of my receipts or doesn't even process them. Tried reaching out to support and was told that I only get points for physically scanned receipts, okay, then tell me why almost all of my receipts are physically scanned and I'm still not getting points? Took me almost a year to withdraw $5. NOT worth it.

Edit: after clearing cache and data it's been working ok... Hopefully it stays that way. It's great as far as receipt scanning apps go. It's easier to report mistakes to receipts than most. Online syncing isn't the best though. I have 13 online receipts that error out through every attempt at submitting and there is no way to just delete the nonsubmittable receipts so I constantly get notifications to submit them even though I can not due to app errors.

Very slow to earn points. Took over 4 months just for a $15 gift certificate. Use another receipt app and earn $25 in the same time frame. Also get very tired of answering "who went here" for every receipt. I'm single, there should be a way of noting that so that annoying question doesn't pop up after every receipt picture! The surveys don't work so there is no additional way to earn points. As soon as I use my gift certificate, I will be deleting this app.

One of my favorite reciept for points apps! Easy to use, there are opportunities to win more points with automatic entries into sweepstakes and hog slots spins with each receipt. I've cashed out over $60 via paypal just this year (could have been more had I accrued more points but I'm impatient & generally hit the $5 cash out). Offers gift cards as well but the cash out option is what everyone is looking for!

Lately, scanned receipts are showing as the places website instead of the store themselves. I report the error and it doesn't fix the problem. I've reported on the app and they've manually given the proper credit but its annoying to have to try reporting multiple times and reach out to support when this didnt use to happen. I think whats happening is if a receipt has a website listed for a survey, thats what the app is picking up instead of the store name at the top of the receipt.

I like the app, however if you encounter a problem and I've had a few... there's no way to contact support! I've had issues where my Chain grocery receipt was not accepted because it did not print well at the store. Too many receipts deemed blurry/insufficient. Too long processing time. This app needs EASY customer support! Also will not accept my shoprite receipts because i do order pickup! I don't trust linking either bc my amazon acct was hacked when I did this! So I miss alot of points 👎

Update: It takes forever to get your money when cashing out. They say, oh it's for security reasons. Now how does waiting on your money for days make it more secure? I have other apps that send my money within minutes or even seconds and it's just as secure. Never had any issues with them. I guess I just like having access to my money, that I work hard for, when I want/need it.

Editing my review from 5 stars several years ago to 1. It took me quite awhile to get enough coins for a $15 visa card. You have to use a different app to activate it and get your number. I did that and it says the card is not a valid card when tryinv to load into my wallet. No way to get ahold of anyone on the other app. Been going back & forth for 3 days on here and was told there's nothing they can do. Receipt Hog stole $15 from me. I wonder how many others they've done the same.

app has a good concept but it's just poorly done, not even worth the time sometimes. Every time you upload a receipt, you have to mark who made the trip, what does that matter?? It's just an extra step that is just a pain when you save all your receipts for a week or so and upload them all at once. It also takes SOOOO long to accumulate enough points to exchange them for cash or whatever. CoinOut is so much better. I've had both apps the same amount of time and already cashed out twice on C.O.

It takes years to even collect a few bucks with this app. It's a fishing app to see where and what you shop for around . I don't know how they use the information they collect, it's definitely not worth it!!!. This application is almost completely useless. You give it all receipts and you practically never get nothing in return. They only want you to buy from their specific list of stores and if it's not on their list you get garbage.
