Really glitchy. I am on Android on a really good phone, updated, Reddit is updated, all that good stuff. But I frequently can not make posts with pictures, share posts with pictures, make posts with multiple pictures, or comment on people's posts with pictures. It's hit and miss. Sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't. I've reported it with no response or help. Would be great otherwise.
This app gets the job done, but that's about it. The random offers to "get notifications about this community" when viewing or joining a sub is REALLY annoying. It's very easy to accidentally say yes and then get notifications that you really never wanted to begin with. Ads are annoying too. It also AGGRESSIVELY opens links from browser searches, then takes you back to your feed instead of to your browser when you hit back. Clearly trying to trap users in the app as long as possible.
Edit: now the sort function doesn't work. Lowering to one star. I didn't realize how bad the native reddit app was until we were forced to use it. It lacks many of the standard features of the old 3rd party apps, like zooming on gifs/videos. Also, after browsing for a few minutes, mine will randomly take 30 seconds or more to load links. Closing and reopening doesn't help. It's a shame that Reddit completely ruined the mobile experience over some money.
Horrible app. Freezes up randomly and I'm unable to scroll. Some pictures don't load even with the best wifi connection. A lot of the times, only one comment shows and you have to collapse the rest. After replying to a comment, it takes me all the way back up to the beginning of the comments so ALL the threads I read and closed are open again. This is especially annoying when I've a read a lot of comments. These problems should not be happening with something as big as reddit, please fix!!
Usually seems to work pretty well. I am using a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. I notice that the last comment in a post will be almost completely cut off though and I can't scroll down or anything to see what it would say. I am giving 1 star because even on a brand new phone with all the bells and whistles, the app does not seem to be optimized to be the best it can be. Giving more stars or 5 just seems like a reason to neglect the little things that can make the biggest difference later.
The one star is because the in-app browser is forced AND hides URLs. This is a massive security issue, as anyone could make copycat websites that require login (ex: copy of Facebook) and you have no way to know if it's actually the real website. Also, since a few days ago they're giving me tons of notifications from communities I'm not in. Super annoying.
Honestly, I absolutely loathe the gesture system. You want to zoom into an image? To bad, it's going to pull up comments instead. Oh, you want to swipe to look at the next image? Too bad, you're going to get sent to a different post entirely. You want to disable it? Too bad, you can't opt out of it. Horrible design and it's the cherry on top of this worthless app.
Updated 7/14/2025: Most recent update is somehow WORSE than the previous update. App won't load from notifications panel, or when clicked on directly, unless I restart my phone. New update is trash. Won't show half the original posts when they're clicked on. Not sure what happened here, but it would be great if we could read the posts instead of just the headlines of them. Old review: Tons of information (with SOURCES) and fun way to research just about anything you want to learn about
Love this app, but by god, is it buggy. I can't even load any content anymore, see my notifications in-app, view my own profile, or anything. I thought I just needed to update the app, but that didn't solve a thing. Before it'd say the classic, "looks like reddit is having some trouble", but now it says, "sorry about that. There was an error loading content". I may as well just delete the app at this point, which I might just do if I can’t get this working by tomorrow
New UI is absolutely terrible. Guess it's time to delete and move onto something different. I shouldn't have to click the 3 lines and then click popular when I used to be able to swipe from my subscriptions over to popular. Why add unnecessary extra steps? That's just ignorant and makes zero sense. Fire EVERYONE involved in this idea and start over. And now there's forced AI too? Most of Reddit is AGAINST AI and you offer no setting to turn it off? You clearly don't listen to the users.
Even with very good internet connection and a speed of 900mb/s, videos do not load. They rapidly play and pause with no indication of how much of the video has been loaded. If you try to hit the pause button to let it load you have to catch it while it's rapidly switching between play and pause. If you try to pause while it's loading it will do nothing and then go back to rapidly playing and pausing. It is a chore to consume media from this app
I really don't understand what happened. One day, it was working fine, the next, I can't login. It's been three weeks at this point and it still hasn't been fixed yet. I've tried almost everything! No matter what I do, I can't open the app. It won't even let me log in. It just keeps saying "we weren't able to authorize you". What does that even mean?! I even tried making a new account just to see if that would work and Spoiler Alert: IT STILL DIDN'T WORK! Someone PLEASE just fix the app.
Update: the changed the UI and it's even worse now. I will stay off Reddit until it's improved / reverted to the old UI. They got rid of the trending topics at the top of the Popular tab, which I assume was done to keep us in the dark about current events. Additionally, it's difficult to swipe through a gallery within a post without having to open the post, otherwise you risk swiping into another feed (such as going from your personal feed to Popular)
Do you like watching 3 seconds of a video, then watching the spinning wheel of doom for another minute, only to see "something went wrong with reddit." Then the app goes to home screen and there's absolutely no earthly way to find the video you were watching. But then you do somehow manage to find the same video after an hour of using the worst search engine ever. Only to see the exact same 3 seconds of the video and it goes to the spinning wheel again. It will never play that video.
The app is unusable. I use an android and it randomly logs out of my account and when I go to log back in it says "unable to authenticate." It won't load any content and no matter how many times I refresh, it still won't load anything. If by some miracle, I manage to get something to load, it's buggy and always kicks me out of my own account again. It's been like this for months.
Reddit tanked third party apps because they're unable to make a good one for themselves. Edit: it's only gotten worse. There's no way to view a custom feed after making it, there's no way to automatically filter out posts based on flair or based on keywords in the title, and the video player has only gotten worse. Edit again: had to download this app to see a link someone sent but it doesn't open links properly so I uninstalled it again. June 2025: would rate 0 if I could
Biggest issue is when clicking on links that open the app. Most of the time the app open and just hangs showing a blue bar across the top of the screen with an X on the left to close, but it doesn't do anything. It does this more often than not. Most links that I use are in emails from Reddit. Force stopping and clearing cache does nothing. 🤷♂️
Having the comments collapse on long press is incomprehensibly dumb. It's triggered all the time unintentionally, and I've never once wanted to collapse a comment on purpose. The very least they could do is give us an option to turn it off. I'll be uninstalling the app so I can use the website in the browser. it's been a problem for years and they refuse to fix it.
I actually didn't have any issues until yesterday. Nothing will load on the app even after I delete the data and cache. I tried logging out and now I can't log back in. Can't access the website either because it directs me to the app. Update 2/10: It's been two months and it still doesn't work on my phone, nothing loads and I can't log in. Have found no solution so far
Was using reddit more often enjoyed the multiple categories and the ease of finding what I want. until now instead of swiping to access popular and watch you get a clunky and useless find anything search bar that's egregious. It's way to big on mobile and I find it distracting. After trying to and failing to easily access things to watch I just deleted ny account.
