honestly, better than Duolingo. you learn Kanji as you learn words, so you get used to reading it. not to mention, there are games you can play to reinforce your vocabulary that are actually fun (unlike most edutainment)! i recommend at the very least giving it a try if you want to learn Japanese, and you can set your current skill level right from the start.

I've only just started learning Japanese but it's so obvious that real care has been taken to make learning Japanese fun and well explained. Having an app that doesn't do a bunch of other languages is nice because you get the culture relevance with the language, which really shapes how you learn it and what's focused on. Super cute and fun and the free version is not spammy, plus the pro version is super affordable.

This app is amazing. I've tried alot of languages learning apps to see what would fit me but none of them worked. The lessons were trapped behind expensive subscriptions. They were a little too serious for a beginner. Or they taught highschool level work. But renshuu is the perfect amount. Its gamiefied in a way that makes me come back but it also isn't playing around and I'm actually learning and remembering Japanese. You also can use it for free, though I will probably buy a subscription.

this app is very nice. The main focus is learning, not paying for gimmicks. The gimmicks in the app are free and fun, and they, again, encourage learning rather than paying for cosmetics. There are zero ads. Unlike other Japanese learning apps, renshuu has no paywall in front of learning. It's run entirely by people. I'd write more, but there's a character limit here. Overall, this is an AMAZING app for learning, and I daresay it rivals Duolingo's Japanese course.

This app provides very interactive and broad lessons, you can make your own schedules to fit your needs, and you can go at your own pace! I've been using it for around a week, and I already have ALL the hiragana characters memorized just by using this app! Renshuu was the spark to my Japanese learning journey, and It'll hold my hand through it all. The app also has a lot of human love and care to it, and there's no AI integrated at all unlike other apps. That's what I love most about it.

Coming from a total beginner who consistently struggles with language learning, this app is actually doing wonders! The flashcards presented for learning hiragana and katakana include an example word (with a very cute little illustration), so it feels like my brain has more to grab on to. The flashcard can also show user-created mnemonics, so you can choose what works for you! Then when the quiz comes -- what's the symbol for ta? Ta as in takishu (taxi) looks like hailing a cab タ!

I stumbled across this app a few weeks ago and all I have to say is wow. One of the big things is that it's 100% free for the whole package. It's the best Japanese language learning app I've used. There is also a very nice community. For me, I remember words and symbols with mnemonics and this app has exactly that! In the app, you also have this garden and by answering more questions and completing task, you get more coins, which can be used on your garden.

I've been using this app for years primarily for vocab and kanji and it's an integral part of the suite that got me to N3. Maybe the paid version would be better for more in-depth reading and grammar practice than the free tier, but that's a me problem. And I especially like being able to jump between my phone and laptop.

No ads! Finally a useful app that actually balances multiple ways of learning a language. Best part is, it puts all its focus ONE language which means it's curated in a way that other apps can't do with multiple. Great, friendly community support and their Discord connect with learning events is something special. Wish all apps could be like this. Did i mention no ads? You could completely learn for free without purchasing Pro. They make learning meaningful. Highly recommend!

I haven't spent much time using this app so far (still studying basic grammar), but as it stands, I like what I see! The content of the lessons is good so far, and I especially appreciate the drawing/stroke order for the Hiragana. My one issue is more personal preference, as in several questions Kanji is used for a word or phrase, and while you are shown the English TL for the Kanji, and I find it can be difficult for me to piece the sentence together until I actually hear it aloud.

The best free Japanese learning app I've found. There are many different types of study games and SRS-like reviews. I particularly like the crossword puzzles. I don't see an immediate way to send lists of terms to Anki, but there is an export option, so I assume it's possible with some effort. I can tell this app was crafted with passion, because there are lots of little non-essential things that add to the fun.

this is an awesome app! it takes some time to get used to it, but once you figure it out, you can utilize it towards your benefit. the options to help you learn are there with sentences, definitions, options to draw the characters, images to to assist with the definition, selecting words in the sample sentences given to learn what they mean. it's just an all-around great app to help you learn Japanese.

this is the most consistent I've been in trying to learn a language! this is a pretty comprehensive app. obviously, you'll need to supplement (as if most methods), but it explains things clearly and if you're still confused, the community is amazing. edit: found conjugation tips! they're a paid feature, but honestly with how much is free, I can understand a bit of incentive to pay

Fantastic app with everything you need to learn Japanese - vocab, grammar, kana and kanji (the user-submitted mnemonic devices are especially helpful) plus an integrated dictionary. You can customize your learning experience as much or as little as you want: use the pre-made study schedules, or ones made to accompany various textbooks, ones made by other users, or make your own. All free, no ads.

I told my friends I've learned more from 3 days of using this than 2 weeks of duolingo. I'm having so much fun using this as well, it doesn't feel like a chore to do lessons. One friend said she wished there was an app like this for the language she was learning! The artwork is adorable too and I love watching my little guy grow with me. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn Japanese. ありがと! You've made a wonderful app!

Fantastic app, as someone who can only squeeze in a few minutes everyday on commute this app fills that niche incredibly well. I've downloaded and dabbled in a bunch of language learning apps and Renshuu is by far the best one I've tried Also it's completely free, and surprisingly well tailored (mnemonics change depending on your language settings), and there's nice little games inside to keep you interested enough in the material. Absolutely give this app a try.

It's simple, you learn through your own preferences. (like choose to practice writing order or pronouncing they also have other tools) I've been practicing both writing and pronouncing and I can tell that I can read some Japanese characters now (5 days of practice). It's overall a fun way to learn for me and really effective.

First free Japanese learning platform I've seen that actually includes pitch charts for each word, AND a ton of customization and free resources for however you best learn. Also the only things to pay for are either pure cosmetics, convenience, or extra types of questions; so not a sign of greed in sight! Only time will tell how good it truly is, but off to a fantastic start so far after my first few days; my only wish is for more types of questions to be free eventually.

DO NOT SKIP THIS REVIEW. I have never tried learning any language before, and this app helped a lot. It asked me my skill level in Japanese, and some other things to personalize the experience. It is incredibly helpful and gives you new things to study daily, and there are so many things about the app that are incredibly helpful. This app is better than Duolingo for Japanese learning, download this!!!!

It's the best Japanese learning app I've used so far! The graphics are cute, and it shows you how to write kanji, listen to what words sound like, and create mnemonics to remember them. the only thing that I would suggest to improve is the explanations for some of the Japanese lessons in resources. Some of them kind of confused me, so maybe better word some of the short lessons to be more understandable. other than that, すごい!
