Does not keep you logged in, and you see a paywall every time you open the app. The app does not claim weblinks, so you can't easily get to articles from shares. the article search sucks. I extensively emailed the tech team about these problems and they said basically screw you, you shouldn't have bought a subscription through Google Play, we're never going to fix these problems.

Reading articles is mostly fine. It's annoying to not be able to zoom in on the photos. I end up doing screengrabs and zooming in on that. Doing the crossword had become impossible, with the inability to scroll, I can't see the bottom half of it. It's always been annoying to do, as the selected cell gets overwritten instead of moving on, but now the bottom half is actually completely blocked. And for the price, we should be able to access all of the puzzles via the app.

The "e-reader" has problems viewing the actual newspaper. It's not possible to view most of the page when zooming in, because it snaps back to the upper left corner. Can't view photos, ads, comics, or puzzles. And the bottom 1/4 of each article is unreadable when I open them. I've emailed multiple support addresses found here and there, and no response. I'm not interested the clickbaity news "feed" (no temporal context) in the app, which works fine but is an irritating reading experience.

I can read articles, that's about the only good thing. Is the only newspaper I subscribe to where I can't get the app to automatically launch when I click an article link. It opens in browser and won't let me view because it logs me out in browser regularly, so I have to open the app and then search for the article. That search functionality is also super inconsistent and often shows older articles ahead of those published that day.

I was forced on to the app by the discontinuance of the Kindle subscription service. My subscription to thos app has doubled the cost of the Chronicle and provides only breadcrumbs of the daily print version. There are days when there are only two new articles in the sports section. More often than not the previous day's Giants game is not included. I get an endless list of stale content daily in all sections, not just sports.

I'm a 50 year Chronicle print subscriber, but since I travel frequently I was very happy when they finally released an Android app. It worked well for several weeks, but now it fails to recognize me as a subscriber. Of course, I've tried all the login options without success. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but the problem recurred after several hours. I do hope they are able to fix this bug quickly.

Often have to re-log-in to start service, especially on Windows devices. Android device does not load full stories, so if an internet connection isn't available, only the first part of the stories is available on a phone device. NYT and Washington Post apps make full stories available on a device loaded, but not currently connected to the internet.

Just switched from paper delivery. Very disappointed. They app layout is bad. Regular features are difficult to find. Some comics are missing and the crossword puzzle is lame. Live updates are not timely. I'll be canceling very soon. Online news apps are very competitive and you have not made a compelling case as to why I should continue reading your paper at all.

Update 6/13/22- tried the audio again, same thing. Extra Spicy this time, 16 min 12 sec and it just stops playing. Down to 1 star. Don't offer it if you can't deliver. -Audio never works. 5th and mission always stops playing half way through. I don't think I've ever gotten to listen to a whole audio segment. 8/14/22 closes article I'm in the middle of reading and scrolls to top of the feed. Sigh. Never tried the audio again.

I had to pull out my seven year old phone to read an article because that phone was logged into the app. Meanwhile using my brand new phone I can't log in. The button for existing subscribers to log in doesn't do anything. It isn't obviously greyed out or disabled, it just doesn"t do anything, as if they forgot to build the part of the app that makes the button work.

Pretty minimal feature set. You can read current headline articles and that's about it. Dropping a star because of a persistent bug they will not fix. For probably 10% of the stories they publish, their app cannot render them. You get a blank page. You need to open up a browser and go to the webpage and find the article again to read it. What's the point of an app if it can't render your stories? Repeated attempts to resolve through support have been fruitless.

The introductory offer is excellent, couldn't afford not to get it. I've subscribed online before and I had a gratifying experience so it wasn't a stretch to take the subscription again. It's an excellent app, easy to use, full of informative and thoughtful discourse about the issues of the day, and I always find something interesting that I hadn't planned on seeing there.

Is buggy AF. Photos & videos don't load correctly much of the time. Hitting the back button always takes you to the top of the main page, even if you've scrolled down. You can and have done better.

I like the Chronicle and the app to stay on top of what's going on in the Bay Area and in the US. I like the button that gives you easy access to the e-edition.

The app ignores notification category preferences. I don't care to receive notifications about sports stories, for example, and I have turned off that category, yet I get spammed with sports stories sometimes multiple times a day. Emails to support go unanswered and ignored.

I never imagined I would read my morning paper electronically, but I love this application and enjoy it every morning with my coffee. I can also immediately share informative columns with my family. Old habits die hard, but this was a positive change. The delivery is always on time.

Great way to access breaking news or read on the go. In addition to web-only content, some stories show up online days before they run in print. My earlier experience with the app was, buggy, but it's been improved and work like a charm.

Nice, positive reporting and documenting on local events, attractions and nature-related interest inviting us to check out and explore, often in remarkably low-cost ways and crowd-avoiding natural settings. Great for locals, to note, not just visitors or people new to the area. Great selection of topics.
