For an international banking company, their app is pretty bad. The app works fine itself, but only when it feels like cooperating. The thing is it crashes often, and sometimes won't let you log in at all because the app is "temporarily unavailable" whatever that means. Doesn't seem like they put much money/time/effort into it, just the bare minimum of a banking app that only sometimes manages to work properly.
Difficult to log into. Quick balance never works. Always an error message. My zip code is wrong and it makes it difficult to purchase anything. CS was not helpful. Update 09/04/25. Santander came through. the app was updated and everything is working beautifully. Update 11/27/25 App stopped working for the last two days. I emailed the developer. I'm waiting for a reply.
Santander requires you to choose which transactions you accept to overdraft and be charged. There is NO option to decline everything over your balance. Then despite monthly deposits for 8 years, 2 days after overdraft, having confirmation of payment, the day my deposit goes in, I am still charged overdraft, they take the money back and I get payment return fees from merchant. So, regardless of Santander "letting the customer choose", they can choose to disregard your "choice" whenever they want.
Why do you need access to my phone in order to remember my username?? I'm so sick of this app not working! It's been years and i still have the same issues. Occasionally it works fine, but i can't login more than 50% of the time. (and even when i can login, some features never work) I've switched over to a new bank and their app works fine. 15 years with this bank, but it's time for a new one!
I'm done with Santander and their bad app. For years the app has a tendency to fail to read my finger print, requiring me to restart the app. But after the Nov. 17, 2025 update, the app crashes immediately so I can't even try to login. I have no mobile access to my account. I've cleared the cache and data with no success. I've uninstalled and reinstalled with no success. This is a massive inconvenience that if not fixed quickly, I will have to move banks after the holiday.
Update: (9/12/25) The app is an okay good app with the exception of logging into it It seems I have to log in at least three times STILL in order for me to even get into my account information these days. (7/1/25) Since my last review I have been kick out completely and had to register again. I still have to login twice to three times B4 getting into my account. This makes me feel like someone could hack my account. So be wary!
Half the time the app doesn't log in. The other half when it logs in, the one feature that makes it useful, check deposit doesn't work. What's the point of even having an app? Update: Unable to deposit checks with app during covid-19, no ATMs working either, customer service only reports no operators working at whatever time I call, including the times they say to call. This has to be one of the worst banks in the world. So of course they would fail you in a crisis.
Can't transfer funds without an error (Value is missing but the value is filled out), can't scan and deposit checks. The app is becoming useless. Add to the fact they refuse to work with Google Pay on top of that, the bank is losing all value to me. Can't deposit checks. I'm not sure what this app is good for anymore other than checking balances and I can do that through the website.
It's always something with this app. For a company that handles money, they put none of it into their app to function. For example, I have been getting the same error message randomly all year long while trying to deposit a check, "Amount entered does not match amount on check." I've even brought it into the branch and they just say "that's weird" and fix nothing. The app blows and they know it.
I've never been able to use mobile check depositing without getting error. Previous versions of the app would crash when I would tap "deposit" but the deposit would go through. Now if I add pictures without typing in the amount first, the app crashes. If I type the amount first then take the pictures, I get an error saying the totals don't match. Mobile deposit needs some serious work to make it usable.
The app doesn't always work for depositing checks it's hit or miss. Today I wanted to just search the app for an answer and it was extremely slow. Always a challenge for me. 2/20/25 Always takes multiple tries to get into app. I don't use it often, but every time I do, I have issues. It deters me from using it. There's a place where I can enter a future date to pay a bill. The damn thing defaults to current date, no matter what I do can't change it. Frustrating.
This app was, overall, decent until recently. Now when logging in I need a one time password sent via text, in addition to my password. And probably 1/2 the time there is an error when requesting the OTP. I'm also unable to view my recent account activity, "no recent activity", it says. So, for the time being I can very literally only use the app to see my balance, but have to keep in mind that I don't have a way to see what has come out and what hasn't. Frustrating!
EDIT 12/30/2020 Even WORSE After updates, logs in <10% of the time - - By far the most frustrating banking app I've ever seen. Setup is inconsistent and logging in is a coin toss at best. Can successfully log in less than 25% of the time. The other 75% the app just hangs and does nothing. It does log in occasionally so I know I did what I was supposed to do. It would be nice if the app did the same. Unacceptable performance.
How y'all update the app to make it easier to log in yet now I can't even log in! It loads and then freezes on the login page! Stop making me update the app if the new version don't even work, not the first time this has happened. EDIT: It's been over a week and still no update, I have to log into my santander account via my web browser, ridiculous. Edit 2: HOW IS THERE STILL NO UPDATE, Crashes every single time on login. I have to go to santander in my web browser and check my account that way! Ridiculous.
Easy and quick to see my account transactions. It's mostly self explanatory. It has gotten better such as easier to find tabs (on the bottom) now with zelle option. I've been waiting for years to: see my credit score, get a small pop-up for money management tips based on my spending habits and options for different type of savings (mutual funds, stocks...). I guess a much better app would try to monitor my spending and offer smart ways to make my money work for me.
Constantly freezes and shut off before I even get passed the sign in page. Freezes when I try to upload checks for deposit or transfer money. Basically the app freeze constantly. It also doesn't remember your sign in information on the app and will lock you out when you know you're putting in the right information. I've had to call the bank about this constantly. It's almost easier to just go to the bank and do what you need to do there because the app is horrible
This app slowly stopped working more and more over time. 1st, I got the two factor authentication text to log in, which I often had to send to my phone a couple of times for it to even work. Then, I could only review the total balance as it'd say "no recent transactions." Then I couldn't update any of my personal information in the app. Now, I can't even log in anymore. I just receive a popup saying to adjust my settings.
HATE that now when you do a deposit with the app, you cannot read the full reference #. Why do so many app updates make it worse??!! Update: so so sick of deposits not going through, because it claims 'amount entered doesn't match the amount on the check.' Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if Santander didn't close my branch, making it inconvenient to try to deposit with a teller. UGH!
Works fine. My only gripe is that the inactivity log out time is a bit too short. Also, I would love to see a balance next to each transaction like my other bank's app has. It makes it much easier to notice if something is wrong, especially when several transactions have been made since you last checked your account. This would also alleviate the issue I have with the log out timer because I usually get logged out while I'm calculating all my transactions! Add that and I'll give the app 5 stars!
Never lets you log in the first time, crashes half way through submitting a deposit. I just spent the last three days not being able to check my account or deposit my paychecks cause it kept saying "we could not process your request at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience." everytime I tried to log in. I will be going to a new bank this week. Definitely the worst bank I have ever banked with.
