It's a decent way to make extra money but be aware of a few issues I've encountered. there have been a couple of times I was paid less than what I was promised. It's only a couple of bucks (today it was $4.50). The other issue is there is apparently 0 support. Update: the missing funds are happening more often, today $9.62. unable to speak to a human and only get the message that the bot cant submit a support ticket.
Things were going well until recently, store managers loved me, I was even training newbies. Then, they had some sort of update to help detect fraud, but it thinks everything is fraud now and they delay or reject every single payment. If the app glitches, as it often does, you don't get paid. You don't get paid for being turned away after a certain point either, apparently there is a "lifetime limit." Also, backup shifts aren't really backup anymore according to 'Sam (not chatbot)'.
If you need help because the poorly programmed app isn't working correctly, expect the only support line to be an emailed ticket that takes a week to get a follow-up. I've had issues with searching shifts, failing to yield results when moments before it had shown >10 across various locations, or showing the results and locations centered around a random part of the state even while your current location is right. The map doesn't allow you to change the search area, so it stays stuck for the day.
I did my first orientation 1 week ago. When I got there, 10 minutes early, checked in, It said my lead wasn't there and would notify me and expect them to be 15 minutes late. I went in at scheduled time and they were there! I did the work, got paid same day about 2 hours later. Since then I keep getting notifications that I have lots of shifts open. I open the app and there are NONE!! When/if one does finally pop up, it's 20+ miles away. Not worth my gas. Still no shift showing up at all!!
The app is legit but it's frustrating to use. What the app doesn't say is that your first shift is actually going to be a training course. It wouldn't be a big issue if there were actual shifts to book afterward! After two days, I was finally able to book a shift, only to be told that I had to complete a background. I went ahead to submit my info, but when I hit back to hide the keyboard, it took me all the way to the homepage. Now my background is "incomplete" and I am unable to update it.
Picked up a product testing gig where they take all of your electronics upon arrival so as not to interfere with the testing technology. Because I was unable to respond to notifications sent by shiftsmart (since the client had my phone and smart watch), I was marked as a no-show. After completing the testing, I was given back all of my technology and saw the notifications. I immediately opened a support ticket. It's been 6 days. I've reached out twice and have yet to receive a response or paymen
I wish I had more than 500 characters. 6 months in, this has been a decent side gig that I do about 20h/wk. HOWEVER, the algorithm is unpredictable. Some weeks you'll get offered all your preferred shifts and then some. Other times, your lucky to get half of them. Customer service doesn't exist. Good luck resolving anything. Sometimes text support is available for Frito lay for me, but not all the time. I've had many aggravating experiences with this app, particularly with Frito lay shifts.
Plenty of shifts depending on the area, but money is never the same. I can work the same shift, time, and location but get paid differently depending on the day. Bonus are hit or miss it says you have to have a good scores. My cook score is 100, On Time 100, Reliability 94. Yet I can get a shift for like $20 and my husband that has ratings in the high to low 90s get it for $37.
APP SUCKS plain and simple. constantly freezes up, constantly glitches, payments get messed up, shifts magically disappear after you book them. I have to uninstall and redownload this app at least 3-4 times a day to get it to work. It's completely operated by AI, therefore customer service is non existent; unless you want to talk to a robot. I have a shift soon and I can't even get past the login screen. how can an app be this bad in the year 2026?
the app Is difficult to use. You can navigate it easily one minute; then the next everything changes,or it froze up. I clock in. Then the app says to start shift, but then it won't pull up the direction page. also they suspended me for showing up 15 minutes before my check in time. 3 days suspended for doing my job.🤷 oh well. thx bye.
I showed up for orientation and no one was there. The Circle K employee said no one had been there at all from Smartshift. when I got there and opened my app; my orientation wasn't there anymore. I have no idea what to do. There is NO phone number or email. Just a chat that doesn't offer any help at all. Also; I have tried to add my debit card and bank info but red words show up (red letters reading "object object" ). Soy orientation was cancelled and no one told me AND I couldn't get paid.
During orientation there were a lot of shifts listed but once you complete orientation the shifts disappeared. I've been trying to reach support for two weeks with no luck until today. There was no real support that communicated or fixed the issue, it's an automated system. Overall experience was horrible. If work is unavailable you shouldn't allow individuals in that area to apply. Very unorganized process just to start working.
My network went down and I couldn't clock in. When the network finally came back on. I still had one minute left to clock in, still end up being late for the shift, because instead of letting me clock in. The app thought it would be a good time to ask, and get me to do updates. Made it to work on time, and still mark late due to network and app, all out my control. Oh this app also don't protect against managers that make up lies on you. The best you can do is not go back to that store.
their support and everything is automatic responses. I was turned away from ortation by the ambassador, and I been trying to open a ticket but there isn't anywhere to open a ticket. I was told by the app that I can be deactivated of I didn't show. they don't say in the app your phone is required to be over 88%, but turn you away if it isn't. just do doordash, or get a actually merchandiser job at this point.
Not sure if this is a scam or if they have no way to contact customer support, but I did a job for them over a week ago and nothing. no pay approved, no way to get in contact with customer service, nothing. I'm nervous to do another job because I haven't been paid for the first 1. clearly states it takes 3 hours to 48 hours to clear and it's been much longer than that. please be careful, giving out your information for them just to keep and not pay you seems to be apart of their game they play.
This app is not the best out there in terms of speed and easibility. The app has you take way to many pics, so then attaching them to the checklists causes your phone to slow down, sometimes crashing and freezing. If you want to get paid, you will complete the app after you do the work at the location. Just be sure to take the required pics w/loc on. Live support sometimes, and they are great and try to get you taken care of. Mostly dealing with the AI bot few to acomplished if exceptions are
I have had more problems getting paid due to the fact that your work is based on a task list. you have to take pictures in the cooler yet you don't have service in the cooler so the app never actually works. Don't rely on getting paid when ur supposed to cuz it will be fraudulent or you spend time trying to get the app to load and I end up working past what ur paid.
I went to my first shift for orientation and the manager didnt show up. so they canceled my shift along with another person. because of this it had that we were trained but we never were. I have tried to attend 3 more shifts only to be turned away because I am not properly trained and the employees do not have time to do it... there is no where on the app or otherwise to request or search for proper training so that I am able to work. very disappointed!!!
if I could, I would give them a zero rating. they sent me to a orientation at 4:30am for me to travel miles to get there on time. actually was there at 3:55. clock in on time. And the orientation shift lead never showed up. Got a message saying I'll be paid in full if I waited another 15mins for the lead to come. they never showed up. So now it's been 9hr and still haven't been paid. they rejected my account. And it's no way to call. it's just an automatic virtual customer service that's no help
As gig work goes it is better than some. but it has its limitations like when getting paid instantly you can only do it once per day and they charge you a 1.99 premium fee just to do that. If im paying a fee to use a service because you as a business is being charged a fee and you pass that along to me then there shouldnt be a limitations on how often I can do so.
