As my first year with skritter comes to a close, I'd like to point out a few things I'd like to see. I would like the option to answer pronunciation cards with a typed answer, for all learned vocab's example sentences to collect into a deck to grind through, and for some issues with traditional characters to be fixed (I think the issue may be that simplified is the primary listing and traditional is secondary, but multiple traditional share the same simplified character so this causes issues)

I use this daily and would be thrilled if it simply did what it's supposed to, but it's a frustrating, buggy mess. They've gotten somewhat more responsive to bug reports, but it's still riddled with database corruption errors, tests/reviews that don't include all of the cards they're supposed to (kind of a big deal!), incorrect dictionary entries, etc. Also inexplicably slow; I think the developers are just in over their heads. Not really worth $100/yr, and I wish I'd invested my time in Anki.

I can't speak to the full version, since the monthly price is a little steep for me. But this free version is great! It has numbers, the 100 common radicals, and proper stroke order, and more. All the basics to get started. The user interface is really nice. The writing practice is really easy to use and it's helpful. They also have great options for testing yourself on the writing, spelling, pronunciation, and definition of the different words.

I've used the iOS version of this app for about three years and it was my favourite way to study, not just Chinese, but any language. It makes studying easy and entertaining and it works really well as long as you a consistent. I recently bought an Android phone and I've been really disappointed at how much worse the Android version is than the iOS version. Some functions are missing and using it is no where near as easy and smooth. That being said it's still the best Chinese flashcard.

First off, Skritter has A LOT of vocabulary. However, I'm not the biggest fan of the process of learning a word—a visual would be better. But that's probably just me. If you wanna learn Mandarin Chinese (traditional characters), you won't find a better app. I've ventured through a myriad of recommendations that support traditional characters with no success.

Looks like a solid app, but while they have the option to learn Traditional Chinese, they don't have any Cantonese voice clips to go with. (Traditional Chinese characters are mainly used in Hong Kong, where Cantonese is the major dialect.) I understand that the vast majority of writing apps use Mandarin, but it makes it particularly frustrating for anyone learning Cantonese to have no options for writing practice. Would love to come back if this was an option.

This app is the only one of its kind. It really helps me study on the go and I don't know how I'd manage to learn characters efficiently without it. However, after my trial, I wanted to purchase a year long plan and wasn't able to without going to the desktop version. I sent an email to support and no one ever got back to me. I still love and would 100 percent recommend this app to anyone trying to learn Chinese though!

Literally the best app on the app store. Paid version worth every cent. I went from barely knowing any characters to knowing hundreds. Looking forward to learning many more. Fast, fun, easy. Learn to write the characters using proper stroke order, hear words spoken by natives, and learn the tones. Many characters have mneuminics already too. It also has decks directly from my Chinese textbook, which makes learning the characters in my class a breeze. I cannot rate this app highly enough.

It's really a great app and it probably teaches me the most Chinese in a slightly addicting way. One complaint I have is that it's not uncommon for app updates to break syncing. This can cause you to lose your streak, and any record of what you've done since the sync broke. I've found this very frustrating.

Learning Chinese is going to be tough; you're going to have to put in a lot of hard work. During my seven day free trial I have learned 235 characters in 13 hours. That may not sound impressive given the large time commitment, but that was more progress than I have made in a year of high School Chinese. Do the math. If you want to learn 2000 汉字, you only need to spend 20 minute s a day for 11 months. Don't worry about the time commitment because this app is addicting.

First used Skritter in 2009, but stopped after a couple years. Trying to learn Chinese again and the progress in touch screens really makes a difference for writing the characters. A great tool to help learn individual words and characters. Has most of the common textbooks to follow along with any classes you are taking. Highly recommended.

Skritter is perfect for motor/visual-based learners like me. By making you adhere to stroke order, it prepares you well to use handwriting input on touchscreens and inherently organizes learning by radical composition. I also appreciate the filters and options for writing, reading, etc. because I have a strange objective, to learn to write and read without learning to speak or listen, so I was glad that it was flexible enough to accommodate me.

10/17 The number due is totally screwed up. I can spend up to am hour trying to clear my last 15 words due, bit they just continue to increase. I can set it to add zero new words, but it doesn't matter. It is now 2/19, and this software is still bizarrely buggy. The programming is terrible. I wish there was some decent alternative, because this is ridiculous. And when I try to use the beta, it just repeats the same word endlessly. Don't hold yuh our breath on bug fixes.

Having heard about Skritter for years, I finally bought a month's subscription for 14 euros. I have to say I expected better. Cons. 1. many characters have differing tones depending on their meaning. Skritter does not account for this so you don't actually know if your learning the right tone or not. 2. not all new vocab has sample sentences. 3. those that do have samples, only have one example. Pros. 1. syncing works v well across devices. 2. More efficient than paper

Almost perfect. Need to have an option where I can add new words to a deck from clicking on the example sentence automatically. Also need to improve the test filter for example after doing a test, the words I answered incorrectly should be highlighted. So I can see those words with different color on my deck. Most importantly being able to have on the test filter the option to choose the highlighted words. Also choose from the test filter complete sections instead of card number.

Since their most recent update, the navigation bar overlaps with the apps UI buttons on my device, making it practically impossible to study vocabulary. Recent update states to have fixed such an issue, but introduced it for me.

So I'm enjoying this app for a few weeks now. Comparing with a couple other apps, I do find this one to be more user friendly and intuitive. I'm a beginner, and I love the character practice screen within the Continuous feature (i.e. it presents you with different words, and asks for the pinyin tone, etc.). I'll keep working on it and maybe even try a monthly subscription to open up more features...

extremely helpful. it is a little pricey but it is really really worth it. I finished the entirety of HSK 3 vocabulary just on my commute to work in 15 days. there is huge variety in decks available even within the same category, like HSK alone has tens of different decks with different purposes for both old and new HSK which is perfect for me, but even people who care about radicals for example or themed decks, they'll find what they want as well.

Honestly, this app takes a bit to get used to. And I think it's a bit pricey, but it absolutely works. There are pre-made lists, but you can also very easily make your own to follow along with whatever method of learning you choose.

I absolutely love this app and consider it a staple for learning Chinese. There are two things I'd really like to see implemented though : colored tones (1 = red; 2 = yellow; etc.) as in Pleco, and a timer when reviewing. Users could decide to have one minute to remember a character and consider it "forgotten" if not remembered in time. Edit : would also be good to have the option to review only the favourites.
