Terrible App almost returned my Astro Fi 5 because of it, trying to set the scope to access point mode so I could put it on my home network along with my Seestar. Won't allow you to set it when your connected to the mount so you can't add network details. Also seems very laggy when slewing and keeps going after you have stopped pressing the movement buttons. Anyway I managed to find an older version of the app online and thought I'd give that a try and it works great. Fix it please.

Sky Portal WiFi Dongle Connection Issues - Just received the SE4, as a gift for my daughter 12/28. Setup when fine, alignment was tricky so I decided to use the app and wifi dangle. Able to connect in Direct Mode and control remotely just fine, but the app crashes when you attempt to connect to Access Point. Says there is a bug. Also, from my laptop, it would not let me enter my SSID and Password at all. Can't type in the fields. Tried from multiple computers. please help!

This app was 5-star great until a recent update. I've used it for years. Now, the compass is broken. If you try to use the live sky map or locate an object, the current location coordinates continuously change very rapidly, and the view is blank except for occasional brief flashes of lines. Hoping for a fix soon!

I like how I can use skyportal with my nexstar se. Lately I have been unable to calibrate the scope when I'm connected and its finding the planets I tell the app to go too. In the beginning I would just calibrate and after that, I didnt have to manually find anything but now the calibration doesn't work and throws a plate error. Also, the minute you go out of the app or the screen turns off, its game over and you have to start over. So much potential with this app celestron. Get it together!

This app has worked great for years, until the December update. Now, it is worthless. When I open it, it automatically starts a download of files, which stalls. Then tries to install the downloaded files, and stalls. I've uninstalled it twice and reinstalled it, same thing. It went from being my go to sky app to needing to be uninstalled and not reinstalled. Update. Tried on my new galaxy phone. It won't even open. Shows a nanosecond of opening screen and crashes. I loved this app! 😭

Worked great, but since the last update the app won't connect to the module. I've tried multiple devices, all which connect to the module's wifi, and keep getting same error from the app: "Skyportal can make a wireless connection to the scope, but the scope is not responding." I also get this error when I'm not connected to the module, which further makes me think it's a problem with the app. I've tried restarting the telescope multiple times, and uninstalled and reinstalled the app.

I really love the app! It does everything well! It is a joy to do a search and then look through the eyepiece and see what it is showing, but the three stars only for one major reason; THE PLACEMENT OF THE DAMN DISCONNECT TAB. I use the app on my phone where everything is somewhat cramped, and if after aligning the scope I want to goto, or do a search, I might accidentally tap the disconnect tab, and have to go through alignment over again. This has happened sometimes three times in a night!

Annoying is the most accurate way to describe this app. It has a fairly nice layout and a lot of potential. However, the compass setting when viewing the sky does not accurately move with the sky. It will be accurate for wherever you start at, but will not move across the sky as you move your phone. If you're looking for a similar app try stellarium. I dropped them for sky portal (got a sky portal telescope for Christmas). I wish I never had

I'm struggling with the Celestron SkyPortal software. It's hard to press the correct arrow when you are looking in the eyepiece and a bad press leads to an error message that you must clear (and look away from the eyepiece) before you can move on. When i use the telescope's attached handheld to set the location for viewing, the SkyPortal software thinks the telescope is 90 degrees away from where it actually is pointing! So directing the telescope to sky objects is meaningless. I wish there was a way to tell the software "Hey, you! The telescope is pointing at Jupiter, not the ground!". I find that the colored display is too bright for my eyes, but the night (red and black) display is too hard to see. Constantly dropped connections are a big pain, often leading to rebooting the app. Getting 3 stars each aligned can take half an hour or more.

The only reason it is not 5 stars is because the ap is not accurate according to my location. I even manually put in my current latitude and longitude coordinates and elevation, and my app is still slightly off. this is causing a discrepancy in my telescope alignment with the stars. I tried playing with it to reverse polar and other settings, and I even tried changing the time and still had the same issue. This is the only drawback to this app for me. Does anyone have any pointers or tips?

the app worked amazingly until today's update. they completely gutted it. There is no longer a compass feature, the search feature has also been destroyed, it will no longer guide you to the proper location. its a real shame they completely destroyed such a nice app. Edit: The "show compass" button doesn't work. 10-22 edit: they mostly fixed it, but the compass button doesnt always register now. the "throw ur phone"(tilt) setting does work though. search/locate works again too.

this probably would be great but something has happened in the last year or so, my Evo 6 will connect with DC but if I attempt to change this to AP it crashes, it's impossible to follow any guide to do this, the app tells you you must be connected in DC but when you are connected it won't let you in telling you that you can't be connected. I suspect this isn't necessarily an app big since on my laptop using CPWI it crashes and has similar issues setting AP config

This used to be my favorite app for astrophotography planning, until the latest update removed the time setting, compass/locate, and display option from the main screen. Now it's pretty much useless and I have to find a better one. I would give zero stars if I could because you ruined something that worked.

Absolutely infuriating trying to set home network. Trying to change network to my new provider. Follow all the instructions, type in the new SSID and password, press send, and the app just crashes. My hand controller doesn't work either (stuck on application init) so I am down to direct wifi to the nextstar evolution mount's wifi network as the only means of controlling my incredibly expensive scope.

Absolute junk. Impossible to set up Skyportal WIFI dongle to connect to local WIFI as the app just crashes when trying to send the login details to the dongle (tried with three different phones now). Has really spoilt the telescope as a Xmas present - it, the WIFI dongle and all the accessories will be going back for a refund!

I've used this app for many years. It WAS amazing, well laid out and very user friendly. It WAS my go to app until they updated it OCT '25, it's now useless to me. I can no longer control time flow (fast forward/rewind down to the seconds if need be), which was my main use for this app. They destroyed a great app!

this used to be my favorite sky app with a big reason due to it being very user friendly with an easy to use UI, however, since one of the latest updates, it is the least user friendly sky app. I will probably have to start using the other apps. change back to a good UI and I would give it 5 stars.

this new update is terrible, you broke a great app. the compass button in the upper right is unusable and does not register a touch to activate because of its close proximity to the corner unless I slam it with touches to try and turn on. what the heck were you guys thinking? didn't u QA this with users? now I want to know how to back review the app to the last usable version?

Skyportal is crashing when I change over from Direct to wifi. upon entering my SSID and password it boots me back to my main phone screen. I am using a Samsung 23 with the newest update. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software cleared the cache rebooted everything. software works good in direct mode but something's going on with Wi-Fi. Google error suggests Skyportal has a bug.

I used to use this app frequently. For some reason they have removed the controls for time flow making the app useless. I have removed it. Per the developer's suggestion that I click on time in upper left corner - nothing happens. Still broke.
