This app keeps on getting worse and worse. It STARTED as a simple remote control, but now it requires me to DOWNLOAD A DIFFERENT WEB BROWSER (despite saying that it supports Firefox) to sign in, and insists on showing ads. ADS. IN MY REMOTE CONTROL. FOR THE TELEVISION THAT I PAID. MONEY. FOR. I will never buy another Samsung device again after this, I can guarantee that.
The app and my refrigerator hasn't worked right for a long time. Every time I try to "fix" it according to their instructions it takes at least an hour, often times out, and never works. It won't connect to my internet, even though every other device in my house has no problem, some of the apps just freeze, and it takes forever to do anything with the settings. This "smart" fridge was not worth the price. As for the app, it hasn't helped.
Great when it wants to work. I got SmartTags to find things like my keys and wallet. This app app OFTEN won't connect unless I restart my phone. REALLY sucks when you're running late for work. I just had to run all over the house while restarting cause I needed to unlock my car in the middle of the night. Was HOPING it'd be simple with this so I could get back to sleep. Nooooooooo. Can't do that. Now I can't get back to sleep. THANKS SAMSUNG!
There are aspects of this app that are subpar for how expensive my devices are. I have 5 mini splits on here and it's not unusual for certain actions to cause the app to freeze, or my most recent example- it won't save a heating schedule I'm trying to enter for tomorrow. Very frustrating. It also has a lot of flashy stuff about saving energy, but it doesn't tell me HOW to do it- only that I'm still not reaching some arbitrary saving goal in unaware of. Just too much fluff and glitch.
Pain in the rear 30 minutes setup, why is the only option to have devices setup by each room. I can't imagine most people have that many devices that they have to setup that way. Samsung account is required, totally not necessary. Then they still don't give you a keyboard for your TV! The cheap $100 TV from Walmart has an app with keyboard easy for smart TV functions, but the $2k TV from Samsung can't figure that function out. still using this app, still hate it and the constant updates.
Ever since this app updated, it hasn't worked whatsoever. I use it with my Samsung Washer and Dryer. The app keeps saying that there are no devices connected. I keep running diagnostics and it keeps saying that it can't connect to the devices and needs to download additional data. Devices are on but shows in the app as offline. Slow to load any time I open the app... I've wasted so much time on an app that used to be really good. Very disappointing.
Login is broken, so there's no way to use the app or control Samsung smart devices anymore. The app automatically logs out after a bit and sign-in redirects to a browser where it gets stuck in a loop. No combination of clearing cache, deleting cookies, switching browsers, etc. can log me in. (Not that that should be necessary in the first place.) Their AI support bot also cannot help.
The app won't sign in when it pops out to my default browser (Edge). I had to copy the URL and open it in Chrome. The fridge UI is misleading. There is a blue box that looks like it's the fridge and freezer temperatures, but it's only showing the values for the settings right below it. Nowhere in the app can I see the current temperatures. I had a power outage and I was away from home but couldn't check the temperature when the power came back on. I don't know if my food reached unsafe temps.
I don't know what you did in this last update, but the app will no longer connect to my TV, despite any troubleshooting steps. I even tried removing my TV and adding it again. It fails every time. Edited to add they replied, but the reply is useless. If they read other people's reviews, they would know what it's doing. It gets stuck on the registration step and fails every time. Usually error code 15-200. NO issue with my internet or phone. I couldn't even connect to a new tablet tonight to sync
UPDATE: I tried signing in again the next day, and it worked (with some trouble). I tried adding a TV and it made me sign into the app, but then needed a second verification, which is fine, but each time the code would arrive too late until the app refused to send any more codes by text and suggested I receive a call--which never came after two requests, so I got locked out of that. Then I used the email option and twice it sent codes that were rejected as incorrect by the app!! So frustrating!
Unreliable and slow, 2 words I would use to describe it. example 1: Yesterday the home monitor failed to recognize that I arrived home and triggered an alert. I don't automatically fault the app for that, it could have been that my device did not share my location with the Smartthings location services. But when I went into the Home monitor to try to shutdown the alert, it failed to load. I restarted the app several times and had to wait around 15 min for it to load. example 2: Routines failed
everything was working good for a while. The other day my door was open. I could hear it beeping. I looked at my phone and I'm no longer getting push notifications. after spending a few months trying to troubleshoot this, I figured it out. someone changed the app so it doesn't send a notification until the door is left long enough for it to beep at least 3 times. then it sends a notification.
App is unusable. Trying to add a device takes me to a sign in page. I enter in all my info and I'm stuck in a loop where it just goes right back to the sign in page. After about 4 times of entering my info, it finally saved my login info and asks me if I want to use my account. When I click yes, it takes me back to the app where I still am not signed in. I am using a pixel 8 pro.
Not even understanding the point of this app. cannot proceed past "your screen is being added to smart things," according to Google, this has been a known issue for at least 3 years now. my Internet connection is fine, app newly installed, entered the correct pin. we are in the prime of the digital age, Samsung, get it together, get with the times.
It just doesn't work. I can connect to my oven, I can set the temperature and send it to my oven. Then...nothing. I see the 30 min timer on the oven, but after a minute it goes back to the oven's clock and nothing got hot. The app states "Smart Control: Off" but there's nothing telling me how to turn it on. Right now, this app is useless.
I made the mistake and updated to the latest version. Everything is bigger now, bring the small icons on top back, Home Insights takes up a quarter of the home screen. But what's eben more annoying (and unfortunately, cannot be turned off) are the annoying ads every time I launch the app. PLEASE turn these off! I don't want to be sold to by an app that is supposed to control my devices.
I used to love using this app because it made it super easy and convenient to access the settings on my TV from my phone. Most often, I would use it to set a sleep timer before bed. Since the app updated in August or September, I no longer have access to any of the settings through my phone. Now when I go to the settings menu for my TV in the app, I'm met with a blank screen. Ensured both my app and TV had the latest updates, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and still nothing.
I'll start off by saying it's better than the iRobot (Roomba) app by a long shot, but the SmartThings app sign in feature is such a pain. 2FA for your appliance?! I am trying to change a quick setting on the wash cycle. I do not want to log in twice, have to reset my password because it won't accept the password I just set (seriously), try restarting the app because it won't pair, just to figure out which setting is the one I need (the fastest part). what a hassle!
10/2/25: I fixed some of my problems with the SmartTag 2 by deleting the app and reinstalling. But the SmartThings Station's location sharing through Find hasn't worked for months (my tags can be spotted by other devices if they're in an area with a lot of people around, nothing is wrong with the tags, but they used to show up as "spotted by a nearby device" (the station) at my home (rural). I even bought a new station, but it still doesn't work, so it's definitely a software issue.
Update: Please update the app! Its been almost 3 months since the update which broke the app and I haven't been able to use it at all! The latest update does not work at all for me. At first the app wouldn't even open, so I reinstalled the app and it opens now, but can no longer find any of my devices. Meaning its pretty much useless now. I reached out to support and they tried to resolve the issue, but they could not find a solution and said the next update should have a fix.
