I don't usually write reviews, but I had to write one for this app. I had just transferred my data from the Samsung S24 Ultra to the Samsung S26 Ultra and everything transferred over except for text messages. I thought they were lost until I found this app! It took a little over an hour (lots of texts), but after it was done, I had all my texts back. NOTE: This may seem obvious to some, but I had to first backup on my old device then restore on my new device. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five stars!!
BLESS. THIS. APP. It worked perfectly! After weeks of scouring the Internet for ways to transfer my Google Messages to my new phone (which uses the same app, logged into the same Google account) and coming up with nada, this app saved me! There's only one con, imo: I'm going to have to go though and archive/delete what looks like thousands of messages (yikes, but hey, at least they're there). Just go in with that expectation, and hopefully the app works for you!
I loved this app... UNTIL right now. It has reliably backed up all my SMS texts for years. However, after the recent update (11/29/25), the app won't even open. I get a message, "Unfortunately, SMS backup & Restore has stopped." It's useless now. I can't retrieve my backups w/out it. I don't want to hastily remove/reinstall the app. I worry it will mess w/ my current backups. Everything was set up perfectly to backup to my desired folder. Update 12/3: TY for your prompt reply to look into this.
I have had this app a handful of years and it has never let me down. The only trouble I ever have is trying to read the saved text messages after transferring them to my computer. It ends up all jumbled and very hard to read, but I think it's some sort of file type issue that's fixable. Because of that issue I did check out a couple other SMS backup apps, but they wanted fees, very un-user friendly apps without having the ability to backup to a external USB storage. I'm not doing that again.
The company I have my cell service with provided a transfer data app. When it came to my text messages, it was over 4 hours of waiting, and I called it quits. I looked online, and others were frustrated and had the same concern. I found this app on a whim as a last chance to try and save my texts. (They're good references with my line of work) I have over 5gb of messages, and this app was able to transfer them all within an hour and easy to use. I was highly impressed.
This is the only app that I would recommend if you need to backup and restore any part of your phone. I tried using one of the other apps that is listed and, for some unknown reason, has four plus stars, and it was smashed with ads. This software not only doesn't smash you with ads, but it also works really easy. No credit card, no web logon, just easy to use
AMAZING APP!!!!! I was having a huge issue trying to convert messages to another phone when I got a new phone, and I was struggling for hours, and then I read a Reddit post about this app and thought I'd give it one final shot. AND IT DID NOT Disappoint. The download time wasn't even lengthy and only took about an hour and a half to convert 100,000 messages into the backup, and then another hour and a half to actually restore the messages on the new phone. 100% worth it though and was worth it.
This is what I have been looking for! Finally, a SMS backup app that actually works. Super flexible too - I feel like I'm in complete control of the backup process. And as a techie, I love the documentation they have on their website. It enabled me to edit the backup to manually fix texts that previous backup apps had corrupted. Only request is to add an option to skip a scheduled backup when there is nothing new. Backups can be huge, so it'd save storage, time, and data usage.
I don't do reviews, on the odd occasion I feel compelled to do so it is because an app is a complete waste of time, or an app is something that works as advertised and no one seems to know the technology exists. I've gotten new phones over the years and the salesperson always states "yes your texts will be transferred" and no they never have, not even once. Now I have control over my texts, all of them! The only reason I did not give this a 5 Star review is I wish it would add the names without having to have access to my contacts. Call me paranoid but giving anything, an app. a calendar, etc. access to my contacts makes me nervous as this isn't my information I'm sharing, it is my friends, family and others personal phone numbers complete with name (and address in some cases!). So, I wish there was a way to add names without sharing contact info. Other than that, this app is excellent and extremely useful!
Transfer of SMS/MMS data and phone history was quick, simple, and almost flawless. I deducted one star because ALL data was transferred, including hundreds of messages and phone calls that had been marked as spam. It's possible that I overlooked some way of excluding these from the transfer, but it's going to be very time consuming to delete them now. Even so, I would highly recommend this app.
This app is awesome!!! I recently upgraded from a Samsung to a Motorola. To me (& the tech at the store) there wasn't an easy way to transfer the texts off the old phone to the new one. I spent at least a few hours trying to figure it out. Then I ran across SMS B&R. The free version did everything I needed it to with incredible ease, but I was so impressed & appreciative I decided to purchase it to provide support to the developers. I can also see the value of the regularly scheduled backups it allows. Knowing what I know now, there are likely some other workarounds, but I don't feel like messing with them at this point. Especially with this wonderful little app available. Money well spent. Thank you SyncTech!
Restored my texts, along with photos and video within, but doesn't restore them immediately. It will tell you that the restoration is complete, but mine showed only a few of the very oldest of my messages to begin with and then very slowly the rest began to appear. VERY slowly. So they're there, but you will have to wait a significant time, so do not panic (but do keep your other device handy, as insurance.) In addition, the quality of restored video seems to be significantly lowered.
It takes an inordinately long time for the app to "verify" its backups. Separately, I think I have a problem not with the app but with my device when it comes to the app not backing up because it's waiting for Wi-Fi when it's constantly connected to Wi-Fi. I told my husband he should try this app so it must be not terrible, LOL. I did though just download an SMS to excel app and that seems like it might be more user-friendly.
Best app to backup your sms and calls. It is extremely good app. It is non-intrusive, backups automatically to your cloud drive. Restores messages pretty easily. I have been using it for years, and no complain about it. If they provide a deal on pro version, I may buy it in future just to support them. At current price, I find it little expensive for me.
I've been using this app for years, off and on. It has always worked great for me. I got a Motorola Z2 Force, and once again needed to transfer over my text messages, complete with pictures. The app is even better now, and it defaults in most cases to do exactly what you would want to do, instead of you having to make a bunch of choices like most other apps do. Highly recommended. Very reliable. Easy to use.
Did a backup direct to SD card (handy because the internal memory was full). But... unable to restore a fairly large backup (~70K SMS and ~30K MMS) on the new phone. Just crashed, no error or warning. Just disappeared with about 70K in total loaded. So... not very useful... Might be due to big backup, might be when it hit the MMS? Not sure... Gave up... Tried another app, that unfortunately required quite a bit of temp space on the internal memory, so that didn't work either. Finally ended up paying for PC software that could help with the transfer, and did so beautifully, if not fast.
Edit 4->5 stars because if prompt support. You can extend the backup up to 30 days and change the setting ti archival backup so only nee messages are appended to the backup file. There is also an option to delete older backups. Old: [Amazing app! My only minor gripes are that other automatic backup durations aren't available (for example, every month, 3 months, 6 months, year, or custom) and that there isn't an option to delete the old backup to free up space.]
Well designed! Set it up and it works. Good options. When it notified me that a back up had failed and I went to manually upload the backup files, it asked me if I really wanted to upload over the cellular data network. I had turned wifi off and forgot to turn it back on. That reminded me to turn wifi back on and saved me a little data charge! Love it for that!
Ok had to get new phones (1 personal, other one is for my office) and backing up the texts and calls is really important to me. This app does the trick. I am not on wifi all the time, so I just backup to phone, then move them to the computer. The viewer online is great and I am thinking about installing it local on my computer. From that, I can copy and paste into excel, plus if I need just one conversation to document that one person's info and communication, it allows doing that, otherwise I do ALL the texts or the sms messages. This is fabulous for me. A real timesaver. I also remove them from the phone so it's not using up too much space. (I use a usb cable for that.) Then the whole thing is backed up on my general computer backup. Thanks guys-really appreciate this app!
This is an amazing free app. I upgraded to a pixel 6 pro from a pixel 2 XL, I noticed most of my messages transferred but some were missing and some media didn't transfer. After reading into it I found it doesn't do that good of a job. This app solves that issue. You can back up all of your call logs and text messages with media via this app for free. It was easy and almost perfect, just missed a message or two because I backed up my phone with Google first, but no big deal with this being free.
