SmugMug - Photography Platform

For the price of unlimited photo and video, its amazing. But beyond that, the lack of Google like search features is unbearable. Besides the search, there are some missing basic ease of use functions. Like on files that failed to upload with error, there is no way to retry beside going to find that specific photo and upload again. Also I can't upload ALL of my photos at once, it only does all by date. And WHY dont the albums have the ability to group by date like the photos is beyond me.

As a photographer, I've looked for places to display my work, build a portfolio, sell images, share albums or photoshoots and ease of use for the (non techy type). Smugmug has been the place. The desktop version is amazing so many features! The mobile app has some features, but obviously not as extensive as the desktop version. However, the mobile version helps me stay active and functional if I'm out and away from my computer until I can return to it. I'd recommend.

Have had the app for a few years. Never had problems until the last two weeks. Anytime I try to make a new gallery I get an error message that states "this content is no longer available". I can go through the desktop version and create albums to use but when I go back to the app they cannot be found once created. What the heck?!? The app is a far easier tool for me to use than online version.

The Auto-Uploader only grabs images from my camera folder. I use Lightroom, VSCO, and other apps that export to their own folders (not always customizable), and it would be nice if the app uploaded those, too. The "set it and forget it" nature of auto-upload is utterly defeated if I have to keep remembering to manually upload those pics. Otherwise, it's a fantastic service with great value!

Very nice.. As long as you pay. If your subscription runs out they won't even give you access to your photos. Was using the app to photograph my workout improvements for a few months, but building muscle isn't the fastest thing so I canceled it. Now I can't even see or retrieve my pictures without paying a month's sub. Would have appreciated if I could just export them or even just see small versions of them.

I love Smugmug! Keeps all my professional work organized and separate from my personal images. The mobile app allows you to easily share libraries with clients and friends. You can also purchase prints, albums or just pay a small yearly fee to have all of you images stored. The prints are of high quality. This truly is a greate tool for business or personal.

I have been using SmugMug for years! Photography is a hobby for me, and I am able to share high-quality photo galleries with friends and family easily. If this ever becomes a business for me, I can see how easy it would be to use SmugMug to share and sell photos. I highly recommend this app. It is worth the yearly subscription cost. Customer service is fantastic! I inadvertently deleted galleries, and they were able to restore them in no time after a quick email. I was so grateful for that!

When I go to add captions, it makes it so everything is on one line. I can't press the enter key to drop down a line. It's all strictly one line and I can't easily make changes to the captions of my photos like I used to. I depended on the feature for a lot of things that I do, and now I can't use it at all. It also won't load the photos and videos properly when I upload them.

Schemey... Upon 1st launch it starts a free trial. Sunscription only. Cancel anytime but no option to cancel in app. Support staff always available but link goes to web page unavailable and subscription is not listed in play store. Not happy at all with the bait & Switch "free app" that automatically subscribed me to something I'm not finding a way to cancel. Bad business.

Oh yeah, this app is perfect! I can store so many pics on the app without taking up space on my phone. I can also send pics directly to the app from my phone and store them in any folder that I want. The only thing I wish they would add is a feature to allow users to organize folders in any order they want...drag and drop them in a particular way that is important to the user.

The email says, download the app and it'll put the photos on your phone gallery. I downloaded the app, tried to download the zip from the email, and nothing happens. It goes through the whole loading bar like it's downloading but nothing gets extracted from the zip. It literally says 0 extracted. Waste of time. Dropbox is easier to use than this.

SmugMug is great! it's easy to use and provides plenty of options for organizing your photo memories in just about any way you can think of. A great option to sharing photos with ... well, anybody!

2026 update: still just as PLEASED w/SmugMug. I've been with them for about 16 years -- so thankful for a safe place for all of my priceless photos! I've been w/SmugMug from the very early days --- couldn't love them more! I especially love having an app to upload my cellphone pics! It's awesome! (2019 review)

love this app! No better backup system for cellphone pics as well as being able to pop open a gallery at any given time

Great app, except no security. If anyone gets access to the phone or tablet, can delete photos or videos from the app, which will remove them from the site. Please give the feature to password lock the app for every time we access.

love this app. But looking forward to have face recognition function, without the support of lightroom

I intended to use this app to organise my SmugMug photos in spare moments when not at a PC. Unfortunately this is not possible. You cannot even edit keywords, captions or titles, let alone organise galleries. As a viewer, it is fine; however, it falls a long way short of what it could be, and what rival's apps do (eg Flickr). Edited to add : another star added as it is now possible to amend at least titles and captions, but not the rest. Edited Again: Another star - keywords now editable!

I like the look of images on SmugMug, both on laptop and mobile... But it lacks so much usability. for instance, I can't tell which photos are visible to the public and which are not. i would like to use an option such as editing visibility from my phone toake the app much more usable when on the move. Yes, the app is free, but no one has the app without paying for an account. so please, give us an app which reflects the site as a whole.

It's the best way for me to take my photos with me to show friends and clients. I especially love that it automatically syncs new photos, so I can show them fast even without a net connection. One caveat: for the life of me, I can't figure out how to sort albums within a folder! Some show up in reverse chronological order while others are the opposite direction. There's no way to change this.
