In general it's fairly easy to buy a ticket, but a few enhancements would make it a lot better to use: 1. Sort out the issue where the mobile barcode is not displayed after purchase 2. Don't sign the user out soon after a purchase - too often have I bought a ticket at home, gone to the station only to find the app needs me to log in before I can get through the gates. Not great when in a hurry! 3. Integrate with Samsung Pass so I don't need to type the username and password every time, please!
Constantly and randomly logs you out and has been doing this as long as I've used the app. On an average travel day it will log me out 3 to 4 times. Not reliable for access to tickets because of this as typically it does this where there is no signal. Often no barcode appears on the ticket when you get in there. Make sure you transfer your tickets to Google wallet or you're stuffed. For some reason wallet shows the barcode even when the SWR app does not.
App constantly logs you out, meaning you have to log in every time you make a purchase or try to access your tickets. Very frustrating, especially when you have to show your tickets on-board when the Internet connection is inconsistent.
very useful for train delays. just be careful when buying tickets as does not always give you the best or correct fare, i.e, return from wey to bmh on discount card should be £14.15 but app gives a higher fare usually £3 or more higher.
Shockingly bad. Trying to simply renew a season ticket on this app is shockingly bad. The app keeps sending you to a website and knowing where you are in their internal labyrinth of app/website pages is proving impossible. Terribly frustrating.
Why isn't there an Android widget for this?!?!? The National Rail app is useless. this is a bit better, but think it through!!!! What does a commuter need? An instant and live idea of how their train service is running that morning as they get ready to dash out the door, same journey every working day, in one swipe. WIDGET, PLEASE!!!!,
Never works. you fill in details then it doesn't allow to continue constantly. such a terrible app that's meant to be train tickets fare without other apps service charge.
Rubbish app. Logs you out, no biometric login capability. Doesn't remember if you have a railcard. Gives no information about services. Only of use to buy tickets, not for general info. Cannot be used to buy tickets if you happen to be out of the country e.g. you're at waiting to fly home, and you want to get a ticket home from the airport. So many other gripes I can't list them all...
Why does the app log you out when you are just about to go through the barrier and need it!!!! Happened to me twice now. One star because of this as you should not have to scramble to search through your password store to find the password and enter it to get your tickets to get through the barrier. Simple stuff! Sort this out and I wil review the score. Until then, rubbish! One star for the service also because the staff go on strike. A lot.
As an online e-ticket purchasing and using app, it works as well as can be expected. You can find train times, buy tickets, plan routes and use them, and that works fine most of the time. However, the app is really frustrating when it signs you out randomly and without warning or notification, sometimes multiple times a day within a few hours. It also sometimes displays no times or errors when other apps and websites list them fine. In general, frustrating but passable.
An absolute joke of an app, for some mysterious reason it works especially badly when one is close to the station turnstiles. Rest assured that as soon as you need to pass the barrier, either it does not load the tickets, or it asks the user to login again (and life is too short to learn the swr password by heart). Even if you save your card details, it asks to enter the card number for every purchase - obviously this happens when one is rushing to the station. One star is way too generous.
When buying tickets, the app frequently times out. Even once purchased, tickets can take ten minutes of refreshing to appear, so have to be screenshotted before the journey to actually be any use, and today have not appeared at all, even 98 minutes after the confirmation email arrived, wasting £6.80 and potentially forcing me to purchase paper tickets.
Unreliable (one never knows when it has technical issues in booking a ticket or retrieving one -- and it happens a lot). Unreliable (it asks the user to confirm their credentials at the most inappropriate moments such as when in front of the barrier at the station trying to get to the platform and get on the train). Slow to login, slow to retrieve tickets. On a positive note, it integrates with Google Wallet/Pay -- when it works...
Don't bother unless you connect Nectar points. This app is absolutely terrible - more frustrating than Flappy Bird. The Trainline app is so much better that I would not go anywhere near this if it wasn't for the Nectar points. Twice my tickets haven't even arrived and there are so many other strange and unexplained errors. I've only given two stars rather than one because the app has finally remembered my card details after about 7 months of me clicking 'Remember my card details'. Just avoid.
Logs you out way too regularly. always when I'm about to catch a train so have to save to Google wallet the night before commuting. crashes often when reaching confirming payment and just says unknown error. Also can't check train status after they have departed. need to use national rail app to check on my delayed train when I'm still travelling on it. Plus doesn't have a check to tell you if you have already bought that journey. It errors so often you forget what you're doing.
SWR is a simple game where you are asked a sequence of multiple choice questions and have to guess which combinations of answers unlock an actual ticket purchase. Amazingly, even after many hours of playing, I still lose more often than I win. Free to play, but contains in app purchases, though unusually for this game genre you can only buy after you win. Probably enjoyable for the masochist, but for most people I'd recommend Ticket Office instead (though that is not available on Android).
Often cheaper, and some nice features, loads faster than the Trainline and actually downloads tickets (which the TL doesn't which buggers you in no 5G zones). But SWR logs me out EVERY time I use the app, which makes it incredibly useless. And they make the QR so small (compared to Trainline) that it slows down getting through the barriers. Easy bugs to fix, which when done with proper QA, I'll award the 5 stars 🤩
The in app ticket purchase often (about 50% of the time) fails at the point of payment and gives an error message. I then end having to use the slower machines when I get to the station. The reasons I want to buy tickets in the app are 1. so that I can collect nectar points and 2. It is quicker to collect tickets when pre-purchased
I can't believe it's not better! The level of annoyance this app gives me is off the scale. It constantly re asks for your login information. This happens at random intervals of hours or days of usage. Why must I have to tell it I have a railcard for every journey. Can it not remember this? It is so unreliable, soI must take screen shots of my tickets, because I know that when I reach a busy ticket barrier, it will forget who I am and ask for me to login again.
It is WAYYY too slow and when you go to pay, it shows an error and sends you back a step so you go to pay again and it works (after about 10 minutes of waiting) and to your surprise, it bought the other ticket as well and now you have payed for 2 tickets and will only be using 1. It is impossible to return these tickets pretty much and im thinking of just taking the bus at this point. There is nothing good about this app, except that its easier to use (not quicker) than the ticket machines
