Speech Recognition & Synthesis

It seems like this keeps getting worse. the more it gets updated. I keep trying to use it and most of the time it seems like it doesn't even speak English. it'll completely delete a sentence or completely word a sentence that is the opposite of what I said. it'll change words around and add punctuation where punctuation doesn't even need to be. to be honest, this app needs to be scrapped and rebuilt.

This used to work so well. As long as I spoke clearly and enunciated, it would get most of what I said correct. But it's only gotten worse over time. Now, I can't get through a single sentence without it being butchered. The app pays no attention to logic or grammatical rules anymore, and often inserts weird phrases I never said into the middle of my sentences. Whatever they're doing with this app, please put it back the way it used to be.

This app is less than average in accuracy. It starts to write, then turns off before I finish. If I try again, it turns off after about 2 secs. I am not exaggerating. I have to press the microphone again & it might not turn on. Last year, it worked better. On my lowly Moto G, it worked pretty well and had a repertoire of frequently used words & phrases. I don't use a paid app so that yet another app has personal info. Worse when dictating in Spanish! It writes word instead of the punctuation.

If i could put a zero I would. I'm having the same trouble as everybody else. It'll say it's updating, looking for network. Tried to cancel it but it wouldn't stop. I'm also connected to wifi and have mobile data. Can't make it stop. Uninstalled and reinstalled. No help. I would really like to use the service if it would work. WHAT TO DO??? WHEN THEY GOING TO FIX IT????? SO FRUSTRATED!

I don't know what the problem is, but it keeps wanting to update, but never does. I even uninstalled and reinstalled it but it still does it. It says it's waiting for a network connection, but it won't connect even when there are MULTIPLE connections available. It's pretty much useless, anyway, because at least half the time it spells out punctuation instead of placing what is said (i.e., "period" instead of "."). Time to uninstall again - PERMANENTLY!

Keeps trying to update and says waiting on connection. I also hit cancel and it will not stop. To help a person that said the same thing was happening. I figured out how to stop it. I went into the settings and found the app ( speech Service update) bottom it said force stop. I hit that and it took it off. Its no longer on my notification bar. Hope that helps. It did say may cause errors but I did it anyway because obviously this update already has errors. 🤷‍♀️ Haven't had any problems

Having the same problem as most. Constantly, non-stop, downloading. Says downloading English (us) update. It never finishes and I can't cancel. Very annoying. I went to just unistall speech services app altogether but when I did it seemed to mess with my fitbit that connected to this phone so I had to reinstall, and since I reinstalled, it's still Constantly trying to download. Would be 5 stars if not for that.

I am having the same issue that everyone else is, constantly downloading and searching for internet connection. This is extremely frustrating and needs addressed. This is an update to my comment. This app keeps wanting to update, and is constantly searching for connection. I keep uninstalling it, and it cones back having the same issues. Giving it a zero rating.

Just like many others have stated, there was a hang up in updating the app. It said it was waiting for a connection despite the phone being connected to both wifi and mobile data. After a couple of weeks dealing with an annoying notification, I just Uninstalled the app and reinstalled it. It apparently worked, but should not have been necessary. Google please debug your updates BEFORE sending them out. Thank you.

I had the same problem with it constantly downloading. I had to go into the app itself and do a 'forced stop'. I made sure my Wi-Fi was connected because it seems this app won't update through a data connection. I restarted my phone and the update seem to start automatically and it got stuck again so I repeated the same process and that seemed to work. I'm not recommending this, I'm just telling you what I did. My opinion is this is a unnecessary workaround not something we should have to do.

Bad update. Don't like the new interface. They took away the X at the top right of the box and switched it to an arrow on the left. So annoying! Also since the text engine is so bad when you say words like 'are' what you end up getting is 'AR'. Used to be that you could tap on that misspelled word and they would give you options to correct it. No longer so! What in the heck are you putting this out for when it is incomplete and almost unusable? I uninstalled all updates

The constant microphone cut-off after the first word of your sentences, it is so freaking annoying. Having to constantly hit the microphone button just so I can say what I need to say, absolutely infuriating!! Word recognition is better than Samsung's, but overall, this app needs a MAJOR fix. It's been like this for as long as I can remember. Please fix it so that microphone will actually stay on!!!!

The keyboard is awful to type on. I hardly get a right word when using speech to text. It never gets words correct and inserts words I didn't type. It's like an anxietized brain that can't get anything right. I know. I been there. The cursor goes somewhere else; and when I start typing, I realize it's in the wrong spot. Then I have to erase that and go back to the right spot and start over. It is very very frustrating! This is a brand new phone. I wish I had chosen differently.

I'm having the same problem as everyone else and I'm tired of it!! It says waiting to connect, waiting to connect!! It's driving me nuts and it needs to be fixed now!!!! I don't have WIFI so fix it already!! I tried to cancel it but that didn't work, now I've got it on snooze and it says that only lasts for one hour!! I'm so tired of having problems with you Google!! If it's not this it's something else, like my Solitere games that take forever to load & I still can't get my rewards!! FIX IT!!!

Update I wish there was a way to roll back to an older versions that actually works. It put words together that is not used together in the English language. I've been using this for a long time but, I have a one+ 6, the voice recognition is horrible on the new version. It types the word correctly but then it changes it to something that does not make sense in a sentence. Changes words like "bet" to "said", "in" to "and"

Feels like every time you update you mess it up more. Over the last month or so, it's been dictating a whole sentence, and then "correcting it" down to like the last three words. Also the accents aren't working now, again. The British English voices sound the best on my e-reader, but they don't work when this is updated. I've been having to uninstall the updates to get it to work for the last week.

I've Uninstalled it half a dozen times. It just shows up the next day and does the forever down load. It also wants me to enter my password for a hidden folder. Not sure how that's relevant. Maybe if we all give it 1 star, the developer will fix the constant down load issue. I give up, but there's my one star. Want a higher rating? Fix the issue every one seems to be having.

Same problem as everyone else. This so has been running on my phone for days & there's no way to stop it. It's not updating(saying.. downloading English (US)& waiting for network connection)when wifi is on(There's no need when it's 5G). It's not updating at all. It's running my battery down & you're not allowed to cancel it. I've restarted my phone multiple times & it's not resolved What's the purpose? Whatever update occurred, this needs to be fixed asap. This is starting to be a real problem.

Half the time, using speech to text stops working, or what I say is delayed by about 30 seconds or more. When I go to clean the cache, the cache is empty. Other times, I am speaking in English, and it types in Spanish. There no instructions anywhere on how to fix these issues. Half the time, the app Miss understands what I say and types the wrong words or stops before I'm finished saying three words. Very annoyed!

About 5 years ago, I would say it was pretty useful, Now It's become awful.. Sometimes I speak a whole paragraph into the phone and send it off without reviewing as I'm busy alot of times and I have no time to review something I can just say in person much quicker, and when I look at what I sent, it's a complete disaster, and sometimes a complete embarrassment.. Always having to send a correction text saying, please excuse the last text, google didn't translate anything right.. I speak into the phone loud and clear too.. If you need to type a whole paragraph, I suggest either typing it out, or looking over and correcting all the words that are incorrect, at that point it's more trouble than it's worth.. It's only good for a brief few words, like "I'm Here", or I'm 5 mins late", etc..
