works very well for cross platform time tracking - and I will keep using it for that. the blocking features are spotty - freezing when setting up, forgetting to enforce, etc. it's a shame, as I really like the idea of the variable time with cool down after - when it works it's great. often it bugs out. for now I'll just use the tracking and then another app for blocking. but I'd prefer an all in one.
Got this for the variable timer feature, but it's completely useless. Everytime you leave an app, even for a few seconds, the timer resets. So if you're trying to limit your time spent on youtube to 10 minutes for example, if you click on a link that opens in chrome partway through then your 10 minutes reset. What's even more frustrating is that the timer continues when the screen is locked, so if you spent 1 minute on youtube, lock your phone, then come back 30 minutes later, you're locked out.
Works to a degree! I just want to block reels/shorts from their respective apps. While there is a selective feature to block these it doesn't work at all. It just kicks me from the app completely instead of blocking the short form videos. hoping this gets patched later on! I am using the "in app blocking" feature to try and get away from short form. it just doesn't work on my device. but everything else in the app works perfectly. I love that I can set block on a schedule too! So handy!
Exactly what i needed - have been able to really curb my phone time. Seeing how much time you're saving is REALLY motivating. I installed a few weeks ago, and I've cut down my Distracting App time by 60 hours! advice - if you have some apps you're trying to cut down on, i suggest giving yourself a wider window, like 30min, and then cutting down from there. Going cold turkey can be tough, so slowly wean yourself down over a month or so
THIS IS AWESOME!! In the few days since installing this app on both my phone and my computer, it has made a huge difference in my lifestyle. It has all kinds of great features and I haven't paid a cent. I promise this is not an ad, I'm just super happy with my results. I do have one thing that I would suggest if you're really serious about cutting your phone addiction completely: install another app blocker just to prevent you from turning your blockers off at certain times of day. Love this app
Works great, I like how it encourages me to keep to my goals by letting me enable a challenge if I want to cancel something. app structure is fine. it works for what I needed it to do. frustrating thing is, sometime when I set my limit and I'm trying to press "ok" it just doesn't register my touch. don't know if this is a my phone problem or an app problem but can be very annoying when I'm just pressing it over and over and over and it's not listening to me! overall pretty good app tho.
it worked SO well and was such a great concept, until I tried to get a little more complex. I want to limit use during the day but allow unlimited use after a certain time of night, the settings can be set up to do that but there's some kind of bug that now it doesn't limit my usage at all. I've sent emails over the last few days and no response. If they fixed this it would be 10/10 but sadly not useful for this yet.
After an initial look through and usage this app is incredible. it is free, there are no ads, and it actually blocks applications or even parts of applications for certain things like Instagram, youtube and more. But there is one thing that I would like to see if it's possible, allowing to view reels sent to you in Instagram DM's but still block all other reels and scrolling. But still in saying that, this app exceeded all initial expectations that I had!
it's almost perfect, it just has one problem. I'm using this to help slowly take me out of my screen addiction(using session variables with a cool down of 3 hours) but when I near the end of a session, the app tells me 3 minutes in advance, and it's gotten so bad that I just... subconsciously leave the app and come back, which automatically restarts the count. I really wish there was a setting to turn off that popup, cuz I'm getting tired of my brain puppetting me.
This app has been huge for cutting downy screen time and being aware of what specific things I use the most. The in-app blocking feature is the BEST. I quit tiktok, but I ended up just switching to Instagram reels. I would spend hours a day on reels, but I didn't want to delete Instagram because I use it to keep up with so many friends. I had always wanted a way to just block Insta... and then I found this app. I put a 30 minute limit, and I stick to it!!! Thank you so much for making this app.
This is the app I've needed for years! Android's built-in app only lets you set a daily limit for app usage, so on weekends, I'd blow through my online limits by noon. StayFree lets me break up my limits into smaller increments throughout the day so I don't spend hours on my phone in one hit, but I can still choose not to set limits if needed. I feel like the flexibility of this app makes it much more effective than the stricter apps. I've already reduced so much time online. Thank you!
This app really helps a lot. My only issue is when I put a variable limit on an app, it keeps running the timer even if I closed the app myself. If you could change that so it only counts the timer when youre actually in the app, then that would be really appreciated. I dont like how im using an app, stop myself using it before my limit is up, and then later when i wanna use it again, it malfunctions or something and only starts the cooldown when I open it, and I use those apps for breaks.
the app locks me out even when I'm under my limit. I have it set up to lock me out of Instagram after 15 minutes, then "cool down" for 1 hour. If I don't close out of Instagram a certain way, it will lock me out even if I was on it for less than a minute. Then, even if I've been away from my phone for multiple hours it doesn't start the cool down period until I open Instagram again. so frustrating. Uninstalling.
Good idea, terrible execution. It counts screen time for apps that aren't open blocking them later when I want to use them. I can set a timer for 1 hour and then it'll boot me out after 3 minutes. and best of all it just randomly blocks apps that are explicitly not under the managed apps. has a whole bunch of potential unfortunately they lived up to quite literally none of it.
I love it! I use my phone for everything both productive and distracting activities. I needed an app that would allow me to track, block, and encourage use of apps depending what is most beneficial to my goals. This seems to have everything and is highly customizable. I haven't come across a paywall or ad yet. There is only 1 thing I don't like, I can't add apps to any feature by selecting several at a time. It's time consuming to add them individually.
Really excellent. I searched for a while to find a way to track my phone usage while excluding certain apps. For example, when trying to use your phone less, why should you care about time spent in Google maps navigation- that's clearly not the point. Stayfree is the only app I've found with this feature, which I find very important. I also appreciate the persistent notification and pop ups of usage time. It's obvious that a lot of thought was put into it. Ive recommended it to friends.
AMAZING! I've been trying to cut back on how much I use my phone- it lets me know exactly how much I use each app and when. A pie chart gives you a clear picture. At the end of the day, you get a notification of your total phone usage. It feels so good to "beat your score" and go less than your normal time! You can also limit how much you use certain apps or block things that are a time sink. It's up to you to put in the work- I'm still in progress- but it's so worth it. God bless!
For the most part, this app has been super helpful with keeping me from spending more time than I'd like to on my phone. I really like the setting that makes you type out a paragraph if you try to edit the time restrictions. That has deterred me so many times! One issue I run into, however, is that for some reason it has a problem with just one app (that I've noticed so far) so I tend to go over my time allowance and it won't lock me out. Otherwise, I'm really glad I got this app.
Great app... I'm finally breaking my phone habit! Down 2.5 hours from my average (it is kind of shocking to even know how much time I was spending in the first place). I like that the app breaks down usage by app or category, shows my time down to the hour to analyze, and has a variety of ways to set limits. I've tried other apps but this one has the best balance between not cheating (you have to enter a long, annoying text!) without totally locking you out if needed.
Works well, when it works. I'll set time limits, then for some reason unknown to me, it will stop applying those limits. I'll be cruising social media, look at my watch and realize I've gone 25 minutes or more passed my set limit without any notification or blocking. Then when I go to the Stay Free app it still says the limits are applied... so I have no idea.
