As I get older, I realize how important lifting is to maintaining my mobility and flexibility. Stronglifts was a great motivator for me by helping me make incremental progress toward my goals. After some time away for sickness and injury, I came back to the app to find that I now have to subscribe even to get to the data I have already in my account, much less use the app. Thanks but no thanks. I'll find another way.
I don't use the built in routines but this is my favorite workout tracking app. Very easy interface. Been using it since I did stronglifts nearly a decade ago. I bought multiple "lifetime" upgrades. Any time you switch phones or get signed out though the app WILL NOT let you use it without signing up for the free trial.
Really well made app. Considering paying for the extra benefits. It's been exactly what I've needed for my lifting days and has helped tremendously with keeping track of my progress and expediting my time in the gym. 5/5 fitness app, great for beginners and the experienced alike 👍🏾 Edit (2/17/26): No longer has a free option. As someone who has lifted for quite some time now, I have no interest in paying for a personalized plan I didn't ask for. I cannot recommend this app as it is.
Easy to follow workout guides with detailed videos describing how to do each move. It was a good place for me to start lifting. update: after 10 years my lifetime purchase has been replaced with a mandatory subscription. I don't need the new features, I want to keep access to the plate calculator and log I had been using off and on over the years. A subscription for something I rarely use for long is not going to motivate me to workout regularly, it inspired me to uninstall.
A once great free app deciding to follow everyone else in tech and create more shareholder value, so now it's a subscription model. There are better, free workout apps out there, don't waste your time with this one. It's personalized programs are most likely fed through AI anyway. Congrats on putting up an unnecessary barrier for people just trying to get in shape!
Very disappointed here in the ongoing updates to the app. Used it since 2016. In the beginning it was a basic tracker, simple and effective. At a certain point it added a premium tier, which was overkill. Now all of my historical workout data is blocked behind a screen asking me to add my CC info and subscribe. I was much happier when it was a simple app, rather than trying to build in all these extra bells and whistles to justify moving to an expensive sub model. Bait and switch :(
Been a user of the 'lifetime' power pack since 2016. I've always accepted that one day there might be costs to running servers, etc. But it's unfortunate that when people apparently weren't shifting to the paid version this app just went full $60-$120/year for what is at the end of the day a few basic algorithms and a database. I'd gladly have paid $10-$30 for just the basic features but now we are acting like a trainer is looking over my program vs a cookie cutter or chatgpt generation.
This app was a good UI for a rote program that I really enjoy (StrongLifts). Recently, I was greeted by a series of unskippable questions, all leading up to a "personalized workout plan," and then told I need to pay for the app because of that personalized workout plan. The explanation that an app added a feature and now it cannot maintain a free version anymore sounds made up. But I figured it was because it was hard to get users to pay. The devs seem to say that's not the case. So I dunno.
Unfortunately I will have to change my review from 5 to 1 or 0 and uninstall it due to they now enforcing you to pay a monthly subscription. I had been a user since they launched and I was grandfathered after i got the power pack back in the day. I have even emailed for suggestions that have been implemented in the past, but unfortunately, I do not support a subscription-based business that doesn't even let you have access to free version with Ads or something similar.
This USED to be a fantastic app, but as with many things, has moved to a predatory subscription model. What makes this move particularly bad is that they had once offered a lifetime purchase, which I had gladly paid for. Instead of letting me keep the simplified version of the app, they've rendered it unusable without a subscription. Awful.
I have enjoyed using this app for years, I purchased the lifetime power pack and now when I attempt to use the app it appears that the lifetime power pack is being converted to a subscription. I liked the features I had, and that's what I paid for. I understand wanting more revenue, however there's no reason to stop customers who have already paid from accessing the functionality they purchased. I see dev saying it has been 12 years, but it was advertised as a lifetime purchase, not 12 years.
Used to be a great app. Now it's paid garbage. I don't want a personalized plan - I just want to track my workouts, the weight, have the time between sets, and have the plate calculator, and that's what this app USED to do. I hate the pattern of these app makers changing the whole thing after they have a reliable client base. Instead of converting me to be a paid subscriber, I will rage uninstall instead when I'm done writing this review.
Update: this was a 5-star review, but I tried to use the app last night and learned everything is behind a paywall. Thankfully was able to find a different app that did simple 5x5 tracking AND other features that StrongLifts has put behind a paywall forever. Exporting my data out of this app and closing my account. Not interested in a reply from the dev as I've read all the others. Another update: I can't even delete my account without signing up for the trial and putting my card down! NOPE.
Disappointed. Had to take a 3 month break following surgery. Logged in today excited to get started again and was hit with unskippable questions and learned that I must now pay for the app even though I bought the base version years ago. Didn't ask for new features, all I need is something to track my workouts. Now instead of lifting, I'm searching for a new app.
Their logic in going fully paid seems weak at best and potentially a poor business decision. I tried the free week of the app and the "personalized" workout plan. I wasn't impressed and switched to a static training plan thinking I'd be able to use it for free. I was wrong they want to charge you no matter what. The team seems short sighted in forcing out free users that would cost the company little and with ads could turn a profit. There are plenty of free apps that will do the same but free
What a ripoff. Beware of these thieves. I bought a "LIFETIME" pass a few years ago and have been happily rumbling along using it to log my lifts, without any interest in the extra features they developed and put behind a subscription. I logged in to discover they no longer support what I paid for, and if I want to get any functionality at all I have to pay them a subscription. stay away from dishonest business practices like this, who knows what other shady stuff they are pulling.
Hard requires a subscription. There is no free tier, making this app is 100% unnecessary. Stronglifts (the plan) works, and works well. But you do not NEED the app to do it. 10 minutes of reading to learn it, a way to log progress, a timer for resting, and maybe a calculator - all of which your phone can do as is. DO NOT PAY THEM. There is ZERO justification for their greed and ZERO reason to pay for a subscription.
I paid for lifetime access to Power Pack many years ago, I didn't want any fancy features or app "improvements". I wanted a simple experience that incrementally increased the lifts I was doing. If I had known the purchase for lifetime access would be revoked once the company decided they wanted more money, I would not have purchased. I would seek a refund if I could.
I started using this app around 2014 when it was incredibly simple and helpful. Over the years, more"features" were added that I don't want. Now, it's a "personalized" program, which I also don't want and there's no longer a free option. All I want to do is record my reps. After over 10 years, maybe it's back to pencil and paper now, or a new app. I do really like the program, but I really just want a simple app for recording sets.
The app is okay. Gives you workouts to do. I like the videos to see what the exercises are if you're unfamiliar. The frustration is in trying to select the workout you want. There is a nice long list of programs to look at. You can edit those programs or delete them, but adding them to your workout schedule is a pain. I can't figure out how to simply select the one I want and add it to workouts. I am not the most tech-savvy person, however, I have clicked all the options. No add feature. lame.
