It blocks maybe 25% of scam calls. The rest get through on a regular basis. The fact is, scammers are constantly changing the ways they do things. And if an app doesn't constantly change to keep up with them, it quickly becomes obsolete. It seems this is the case with scam shield. Also, the reverse lookup isn't available with the premium version. It's always been grayed out. Just not available. Which is a huge letdown. I'd suggest going with something else.
It works better than I expected. I appreciate the ability to either "block" a number when I'm sure it was spam or "send to voicemail" when I'm not sure. If they call again and don't leave a message or leave a spammy message I can block future calls, but if they leave a non-spam message I can return the call and mark it okay for future calls. This app saves me time and annoyance. As far as I can tell it hasn't made any false positive spam designations. Well worth it.
Doesn't seem to block anything. Not very intuitive. Do I add scam cam calls to list or is it automatic. They're still coming in and its not clear where they can be added. UPDATE 1+ Year later: Since T-Mobile joined with another major provider I had hoped that this app would have improved. But while it is suggested that the protection it offers is free, it is still virtually worthless unless you upgrade to the paid service. Still rates a 'zero' in my book.
It works well, but sometimes too well. I was waiting for a call giving me an access code (no option for getting it by text). Never got the call, even trying multiple times and had to resort to getting the code by snail mail. I happened to check the blocked call list, and found several blocked calls from around when I made the request. If you're waiting for an important call and you don't know the originating number, disable the app until your call comes.
It is moderately successful in blocking unwanted calls, but doesn't tell you who they are. I want the app to force "private" callers to identify themselves or hang up. Instead, the app can send them to voicemail. So if you're getting harassing calls they can still ring your phone unless you choose to send them to voicemail. They can still leave cove messages. This is the fix we need. This fix would allow me to get calls I actually want and shield me from calls I don't want.
Constantly screwing up my calls. Just blocked a call from one of the numbers in my contact list when they called, they had to text and ask why I wasn't answering. Constantly getting messages from the app that "Sorry, we're having trouble fetching your voicemails at this time." Last one was at 1:00 in the morning. Gives you the most basic info about blocked calls, etc. If you want anything more, you have to pay for it. Disabled it. Add it to your plans free or dump it.
Makes things worse. With this turned on the fake numbers have called me 25 times in quick succession. So instead of 1 annoying call,...my phone sends 25 back to back call notifications while the number bot dials me after every rejection. Wouldn't be surprised if they built it this way because,...You can stop all of this, of course,...for 4.00 a month. I have elected to turn it off, and manually add calls to the block list. No more excessive notifications, and it didn't cost me anything extra.
People get a lot of calls from those trying to sell us something, which are scams, these days. Most are recordings really..... it is so annoying! I don't know how they do it but it'll show 15 calls come in within a minutes time, although, it seems crazy... it's true. This feature stops 90% of those calls from coming through. I'd get so many calls during the day, I don't anymore & that in itself is so very helpful for me as well as my sanity! Thank you Scam Shield!
12/21- I have been using the app both paid and free since introduction . Thus the reviews. Why would you stop a blocked spam number four times and then the fifth time let it go to voicemail? 9/21-continues to be a rip-off as they charge you for every thing that most providers give you for free. Since it came out it keeps changing what's free and what's not, plus they're selling your data to third parties (read the fine print), and to stop it you have to contact each one individually.
Loved this app at first (though I'm being charged for it when I'm supposed to get it for free) because it worked extremely well for months, but then it suddenly started blocking important calls, many from local numbers, without even a single notification to let me know. Some numbers were even "whitelisted", yet they were still blocked and not even sent to voicemail. I'm currently utilizing Google's free native dialer app (instead of Samsung's) and it's spam feature, and it's worked flawlessly.
I've subscribed to this service for several years. I am finding that the block function doesn't work ,& the reporting seems to do no good . I get calls from numbers that I have blocked previously & they register an unbelievable number of times at the same exact time of day. So to try & "get" these jokers, that seem to have nothing better to do but place scam calls all day, I report each & every one! I just canceled the $4/mo charge to my account seems to do nothing.
App blocked my childs number and notified me that the number was a scam likely call! She is in my contacts! Thank goodness it wasn't an emergency! When I attempted to fix the problem I tapped the 'always allow' button and the app notified me that I would have to pay a monthly fee to use that feature; absolutely ridiculous! I would not pay t-mobile monthly fee for a faulty app that blocks the contacts in my phone, marks them as scam likely, and offers no way to fix the problem for free!
Great app! I was so sick of ALL those telemarketers especially when it's a business line. It was borderline harassment by some companies, but this stopped it all. The free version is good, but the $4.99 for the month is better for additional features. But my favorite is that they give you a separate # undet "Digits" that goes to the app. So if you don't want certain people or companies to have your real # then you give them that 1. Such a bonus
If I could give this app a zero I would. It's ridiculous how they want to charge to block calls. It advertises "no additional charge" then you are slapped with hidden cost after you download. This is not an example of excellent customer care. Charging more to block spam calls is an utter ripp off. It should be free!!!! Very disappointed. I've been a loyal customer of Tmobile for almost 20 years, maybe I should go elsewhere.
Seems to block known scam/spam numbers well. So far the incoming caller ID has not shown any info other than the numbers, so I rate that part as 'non-functional'. Since caller ID doesn't work, why is the ability to try a reverse number lookup a premium feature? With the proliferation of scam and spam calls, you'd think they would want to provide free tools that help customers fight those. It seems like all they really want is to entice you to agree to an additional monthly fee. Reached limit
Daily, I get multiple notifications for a single call made more than 45 days ago. It goes off repeatedly. One day was over 23 times in a single ding after ding. Yet, further in the day and consecutive days it keeps sending a notification for a number which was blocked 2x. I've had to turn off my phone to get it to stop. I went to settings in app and turned off notifications. If this doesn't work, I'll have to uninstall. It doesn't do this to any other blocked number yet.
When I first installed it, it worked a little. Now months later, it does nothing and I continue to get several spam calls a day. At least with the third party apps they were attempting to stop spam calls. I'm definitely not going to pay to upgrade something that 1.Should be free and 2. They are not even doing effectively. I'm going back to YouMail--it far outclasses this nonsense.
Disappointed! I really thought with all the news releases leading up to this app's release that this was supposed to be free. The free version has very few features. Instead you have to pay to upgrade. I don't get it. You can't even block numbers without paying! Well it does block fraud and it does provide caller ID. Both free. So that's good! If you want to block specific numbers on the network, or block other types of calls such as Telemarketing or Surveys, you have to pay a monthly fee.
This thing is awesome!!!!! It does a great job of blocking spam! It can be set up so custom numbers - annoying sales calls - can be auto forwarded to voicemail without even ringing the phone so you don't get bothered. Yes, you can even just block those calls entirely too. The app has blocked 40 spam calls for me in the last 30 days. The free version has plenty of features!
Pretty good app. For some reason the blocked calls always show up twice on the activity list, making it look like more calls were blocked. But I am grateful to have this to filter out quite a few junk calls. I wish there were more free settings available instead of being prompted to upgrade, but that's alright. At least it doesn't force 3rd party ads on you!
