App is fine for the most part. Sometimes there are articles where the link does not open the article. Restarting the app usually fixed it, but not always. Customer service is shoddy. Monthly subscription renewal dates are not regular. If you intend to cancel a subscription, don't wait until the end of your month, because they will bill you early (had a renewal on Dec. 19, then Jan. 15, and if I had continued, Feb. 12). And they don't give refunds.
Stars are for the app not the Banner's content or writing which are great. For a week now I have been having issues where a link to an article from the email newsletter launches the app but nothing loads, and when I try to go to the app home screen to find the article I get a failed to load timeline error. Since the app opens by default I can't even read the Banner from my mobile browser without some creative workarounds.
02-06-25 No release notes but seems like the rotation has been fixed recently?!? 3 stars to 5 stars! Thanks! 01-13-25 Stop force rotating the screen please. App overrides when I lock my phone to portrait. As another reviewer mentioned, I sometimes use my phone lying down. Other apps stay locked with my phone settings but this one doesn't. Yes I gave feedback through the app. No response. The news is great. Seems silly to have to use a mobile browser because the app is designed with a flaw.
great journalism. it's nice to see the troubles AND the wins 😁
Is there any chance you will fix notifications?? Samsung Galaxy 23 Ultra. Notifications do not open the app. Nothing happens. It's SO irritating. I want to add that your reporting is second to none. 5 stars for content. 1 star for the app.
They are ridiculous. I was sent a link to an article about a grocery store in my area. When I went to view it I was told that I was over the limit of free articles. Now I know I had never , not once viewed an article from this publication. After that I called the customer support service and asked why I couldn't get to see an article sent to me by a paying customer. The only answer I was told I was over my limit and would I like to pay. Then I was bombarded with articles I couldn't read
It appears the issue has been resolved. Thank you. When I click on a notification it does NOT take me to the article. It only brings up the app at the homepage. If it is an older article then I sometimes can't find it.
As a news service the Baltimore Banner is great, and recent updates to the app have fixed the issue of notifications opening the app but not sending users to the notification's article. With responsiveness to app user issues and continued quality journalism, I can see myself remaining a Banner subscriber for years.
So glad to have the Banner delivering local news for Baltimore City, independent of corporate influence. The app is excellent too, have had no problems and it's a pleasure to use. The quality of the journalism is exceptional. Support local journalism.
I'd probably give this app five stars even if it wasn't that good, simply because I love the Banner's news coverage. Thankfully the app is technically great, easy to use, and beautiful to look at, so it credibly earns this five star rating.
Deeply reported, verified local news--the way it should be.
Fine news app, love their content. My problem is their push notifications don't direct you to the story they're mentioning, just the homepage of the app.
Content is great, but app login popup doesn't work for me. Can't sign in, get nothing but blank screen after I hit the Sign In button.
the content is great, but the lack of control over choosing how often you receive push notifications is frustrating. get dozens of notifications a day that I do not want
Solid alternative to conglomerate-owned traditional newspaper in Baltimore. Staffed by both newcomers and seasoned veterans. Coverage more locally than nationally focused. Covers some stories that others miss but in turn sometimes neglects larger stories. Website generally works well but occasionally overlooks content from the paper.
I really appreciate the Baltimore Banner! It features solid, relevant reporting which makes for great articles. I'm glad there is an alternative to The Sun.
Great news source and app. Stories are factual but easy to understand. Cancelled using their competitor and only use The Banner!
I just recently subscribed to the Baltimore banner, and I find it informative and honest. Which is exactly what a person wants from their news source.
Way too many alerts and I can't customize how many alerts I get. I don't need an alert about the Colts and Old Bay.
