A great Android weather app! Coming from Dark Sky (the best Android weather app until it shut down), it's a solid alternative. A few things keep it from being five stars for me: 1. Widgets can't be resized 2. The Home and Work location buttons can't be removed. For people who work from home, Home = Work location, so it would be nice if they were removable. 3. More options for the persistent notification. other apps allow more customizability there and that would be nice here.
Seems pretty good, but not as good as Dark Sky yet. Arcus is still better, but uses Dark Sky and won't work after the API support ends. (Thanks a lot Apple!) One thing this doesn't match is Arcus 'Next Hour' forecast saying "Rain stopping in 14 min, starting again 6 minutes later." (Great for knowing when to get the groceries out of the car!) Climacell is just saying rain for the next two hours, and the chart shows a dip but I don't know if it will actually stop or not. Price wise, I won't end up paying $20/yr for this. Maybe $5-7 a year subscription, or $10-$15 for a one time purchase, but $20 a year is a lot when there are so many free weather apps, as well as online. With so many users looking for Dark Sky alternatives this app has a real chance to take over for Android, but not with such high pricing.
Really like the UI, simple and easy access to what I need to know. Seem to be as accurate as any and better than most. Only real issue I have are the precipitation alerts. There are several options for precipitation alerts, one of which is when it starts. The toggles seem not to work as no matter which you choose it doesn't change. $20 a year for no ads ain't gonna happen either!
I could really like this. The accuracy seems to be the best, but they need graphics help. Icons don't scale with widgets. Temp in the status panel is simply the wrong size, the icons on the notification shade don't scale. Options are difficult to turn on and the selection of widgets is a little thin... I emailed a question to their support and have gone over 24 hrs, at this point, without a response. Great potential, though. I'll keep watching it.
Really wanted to like this app. Since Dark Sky leaving Android, found this app, at first I thought it was going to be my permanent replacement. Did the premium trial period, but after those 2 weeks, it wouldn't let me buy the premium version, never even got the option to find out how much it should have been, just failed to purchase every single time I tried. Kept thinking a future update would resolve the issue, but alas, this latest update seems to have removed any hint of a premium version and instead has just added ads in the app. For a good, well thought out weather app that really nails everything, I'm more than willing to pay a premium for that (within reason of course), but the ads are precisely why I don't want to use WUnderground (which was my go to years ago before they got bought out too) and the like. Between the addition of the ads, and as others have mentioned, breaking all the widgets, this app really blew it for me. Has the potential to be the right one, but they just took a giant leap in the wrong direction and I'll be unsintalling unfortunately.
Worse weather app I have used for accuracy. It was great at first, but got worse as time went on. For example, just prior to updating this review I received a "Heads up. Rain will start in 20 minutes". It had been raining for 45 minutes and we also had thunder storms. I've been comparing with my friend who uses Weather Channel. Hers has been much more accurate. Wish I could give more details, but 500 character limit. I give it 2 stars because the interface is awesome! Intuitive & Limited ads.
I LOVE the features in this, I love it lets me set my location(s) instead of needing my location turned on all the time, I love that it just notified me that it's going to rain soon, this (so far) has literally everything I wanted in a weather app! EDIT: except for long term accurate temps :/ it gets more accurate the closer the day gets, but if you look a week out the other apps seem a LOT more accurate. But for day-of alerts, it's pretty good.
I love the UI and the app provides all the information you would want from a good weather app. Areas of improvement: Alerts are crazy inconsistent. Some thunderstorms result in tons of alerts, other storm come and go and I never get an alert. Additionally, the "precipitation coming in 15 minutes" (or whatever time you've set) alert has never worked. Edit: And now the widget stops working randomly. Down to 2 stars now. This app has somehow only gotten worse.
I was a hard core Dark Sky user until Apple bought it and shut down the Android app (rip) I've been looking for a solid weather app and I think I've found it. It has all the features you would expect in a weather app, (including a radar map!) plus it can sync to your calendar! All of this is coupled with a super clean ad-free UI. If you're a Dark Sky refugee like me (or just looking for a good weather app) than ClimaCell is for you!
I really like the look and feel of the app, it looks awesome and has some nice features that I can use like 'activities' and 'locations'. however the weather forecast itself is by far inaccurate. sometimes it looks completely out of context of current weather. (for example, it shows sunny weather expected in an hour while the whole day was cloudy and chilly)
Decent app. I used it smfor about 2 weeks (since DS was turned off). But the UI is too busy/complicated. I felt like I never could just find weather details right now, or what is going on over the next few hours. And many times the next X hours started many hours in the future and not right now. It was just weird and never gave me the data I needed. I felt like I was reading a book and had to figure out weather on my own. Radar map was not easy to use and radar always seemed off.
I'm really trying to give this app a chance but its just doesn't work. App is completely unusable, doesn't even load it just crashes. The small times that it loads, it takes forever. Hourly widget always says that it's going to rain later in the day, even if there's no rain in the forecast. Only changes when actual rain is forecast. I guess it's set to default for that which it's very poor design and user experience. Rain notifications have never worked.
Decent app. Needs much improvement. Weather map can be unreliable because during time lapse, precipitation will not show for the first hour of the time lapse then all of a sudden it appears, then if you let it keep lapsing longer, the precipitation will just vanish. Also, temperature and weather forecasts can have dramatic changes from one day to the next. All in all, it needs more consistency and a better map.
Forecast is too unreliable. This app, compared to others, is off by sometimes 20 degrees looking ahead 2 days and the other apps are always closer to actual temps. Sometimes the temp is corrected by the time the day comes, but it's always a guess on whether or not the data is accurate. I understand a few degrees off and adjustments to forecasts, but 20 degrees is a lot. Instead of constantly comparing with another app for accuracy, I'll just use another app.
I'm really frustrated with the app right now. Notifications are awful. I got so many ridiculous weather alerts. The controls aren't specific enough and they don't work. At one point I turned off all notifications except precipitation and I was still getting wind advisories and high surf advisories. I had to turn off alerts completely. Mighty be time for a new weather app. 😢
Cannot get precipitation notifications to save my soul. Have checked that settings allow for it in the app, made sure that it has the proper Android permissions to send notifications, made sure battery optimization was turned off... still nothing. App will describe precipitation when opened, but never notifies of it. Also, fairly odd that pricing is never described during the trial period, nor can it be found anywhere on the website. Won't be keeping.
Absolutely useless app. It has the ability to display weather in specific locations but fails to give accurate readings even at that level. Everytime I go to walk in the park, believing it's not going to rain (based on what the app tells me), it rains, and when it says it's going to rain? It doesn't. Not worth the time it took to download nor the space it took up in my phone. Until my region enters the season when it (usually) doesn't rain anymore, I'll stick to treadmilling in the gym. 👎
Honestly not impressed. This app came up in an ad and looked interesting so I downloaded it, but it's nothing special, especially compared to AccuWeather! The biggest issue: the "feels like" ONLY shows for the current temperature, not the hourly temperature! This is HUGE because, especially in winter you can have a temperature over 40 F, but with the wind chill it feels like the mid 20s F!! Furthermore, I don't see why the app neess your EXACT address when there are only so many weather meters!
Not sure if this app has always had advertisements, or if I just never noticed before. That said I did notice several of them today (one even disguised as a statewide alert). I see no option to pay for a no advert option, and will be uninstalling should there be no way to remove the ads. Overall my experience has been pleasant enough. The widget does seem to take longer to update than I would prefer though.
App used to be really good. Now it's not. Now, the only thing it's useful for is the articles. Everything else takes forever to load. Also, things that were previously free are being put into premium. Not happy about that. Plus it's not even close to accurate as it claims it is. Go with Weather Bug or Ex (more advanced features). Uninstalling.
