The last update that was made on 18/09/25 has made the app unusable. No longer allows you to buy a ticket. I've had to download the app for just my local train providers, which I'll probably just stick with, since they don't charge a booking fee and it's very rarely I need to travel further afield to benefit from the Trainline's split save feature.

Update November 25 - more and more splash screens and more buttons to confirm this and that. Very cumbersome now. Probably 4 or 5 superfluous operations required. Only need 6 or 7 to select and complete a purchase. Oh and I'm now charged a booking fee! I thought you were fee-less?

Once purchased, the ticket is great. However, using your app is very difficult!! and if you make an error it makes you start all over. It's very frustrating when you put in all of your information according including your credit card information and then it will not accept your credit card and you have to start you. With a whole different credit card, not sure why it won't take my credit card when I have plenty of balance

Customer service doest appear to exist. I don't understand why this app has high reviews. It suggested the wrong station to purchase a ticket, highlighting it as the best option. Once purchased, it kept erroring out and wouldn't let me update the ticket to a new station or time, and then refused a refund. So I had to spend 3 times more on a first class ticket on short notice. Working as designed? You have to use Google to find out the actual station you need, so what's the point of this app?

Maybe good other places but not in Italy. Conditions stated we had an hour to change trains after original departure. We had a late train and ever time I clicked change the app errored out! Said I had to call support. The number provided was out of order! Horrible experience! No support. Luckily a local also missed and helped explain to local ticket station for us. We got a train that put us much later and had to pay more. Very poor experience with app here.

At some point the last few months, something went wrong with this app. I can use it once, and it would work nicely, but from then onwards, when I want to buy tickets again, I get an "Something went wrong error", and the only way to fix it is by uninstalling and re-installing the app (android). Extremely dissapointing. UPDATE: Workaround applied. Phone upgraded. App updated many times. Still doesn't work after the first use. Switched to Uber trains

What have you do e to this App. It used to be simple to use now you've made it guess work as the train you think you've booked doesn't pull through and ends up near enough being the same time as your return train which isn't what was wanted. Seat booking has given 2 seats in different carriages on the outbound and any between 8 seat numbers on the return. Days are numbered using this, doesn't default to the search page on opening instead wants to give me some random journey elsewhere.

The app for whatever reason stopped sending me notifications. All notifications are allowed so I don't know why I have to keep checking the app if there is a change to the journey I'm tracking. It used to just pop up in my notifications if my train is delayed or the platform changes. What's the point in tracking a journey then?

One of *the* best apps. I used to dislike the booking fee but realise it's worth it given how convenient is (but please don't put prices up!). For UK national rail it's super easy and tells you if QR code will work on your journey. The game changer for me is the ease of booking international journeys across Europe, including by night train. It is also good at saving and applying railcards. Sometimes if the journey is too complex, you do need to search in segments.

The new update is pointless change for the sake of change. The app was fine, but now the search tab takes you to an unintuitive "favourites" style page but the information is tiny as half the page is taken up by an advert. Clicking anywhere other than the tiny "view more trains" text just takes you to a page trying to get you to buy a ticket or a holiday. Just unfriendly UI, clearly designed for advertising, takes far longer to just get to the old search page showing all the info. Pure greed.

the new update has frustrated me. after booking your tickets, you used to be able to press 'view journey' to see the timings of your changes. this is mo longer possible and it instead tells me about split save and my ticket conditions. if I wanted to see that, I would've pressed 'view tickets'. this is quite irritating as now I have to search the journey to see the timings.

incredibly glitchy app. very unintuitive. most functions - including creating an account!!!!!!! - don't work. whenever I tried to use these options it gave an error message saying "something's off track. try again later"...perhaps they should've spent more time on development and less on comedy. you'll be able to book a ticket - hopefully - but it will be an infuriating experience.

The app has got worse rather than better. 1. At booking it is actually harder to see whether you are booking a flexible ticket or a specific train only ticket and to change it id it is unsuitable. 2. After booking you used to be able to click on "view journey" in the ticket and see full details of stops, changes and turnaround times. Now you only get a with no times until maybe a couple of hours before journey start which is too late to plan. Please bring back old functionality.

Utterly useless company, issued me the wrong ticket from a machine which i had bought in advance, wouldn't correct this even after spending 48 mins on the phone to them from Paddington station, was told I had to buy another ticket then claim the money back from them, refused to answer emails, and after calling said they wouldn't refund the ticket, this is nothing more than fraud, avoid unless you want to be out of pocket, have used them many times but will never use them again !

Since the last update, many ticket options no longer show up in searches despite being applicable for the journey. The app now forces me to buy two separate advance single tickets despite the route having options for anytime day returns, which are always more than half the price of two singles and allow you to travel at any time of day. I know this is true because I have since taken to buying tickets directly from the ticket providers themselves. This app is blatantly deceptive and predatory.

I bought a Railcard, can see it on my account in the app, and yet when I go to book a ticket the app prompts me to purchase a Railcard again with no option to use mine. Incredible. Edit: Laughable response to my complaint. Of course it needs to be applied, but there is no option, meanwhile it tells me to PURCHASE a Railcard I already have on my account.

Why are you presenting a captcha when I'm trying to leave the station? I bought a ticket 2 hours before getting on a train and heading to my destination. I got there and opened my ticket to get through the barriers. It didn't work. I discovered that a Captcha had appeared and I had to solve this before getting back to my ticket. Not great when a queue of people are standing behind you at the barriers in a busy station. No idea what this is about, but a really stupid feature!

Something happened a couple of months ago with the app which means it takes >5 mins to load the tickets that you've already bought. Which means you look like a complete chump standing at the barrier waiting (hoping) it'll load. Nothing wrong with my phone or signal as everything else in the app works fine (yes, the app will let you buy a new ticket seamlessly, just not access your existing ones). Oh, and awful customer service. You'd better hope you never need assistance, let alone a refund.

I got a notification today asking for this review. It might have been better, but I've had 5 other promotional notifications today all from this app. Do they think that endears them to customers? Not to me! If you buy your ticket based on what Trainline say (r.g. bike spaces available, no reservation necessary) and the train company has decided to withdraw that, Trainline say it is the operators fault for not providing it - so no refunds on an expensive and useless purchase! Mostly it works!

trainline app is useful, however some time ago it has become very slow. Also, you are only allowed to manage (change / return) a limited number of tickets on the app. after you've used the limit, you can only do that by calling the customer service, which is open only during the daily working hours.
