This app is SLOW AS SNOT, and not optimized in the least. And the addresses are out of date as well. If you want to enter an address as a stop along the way to a destination, and it doesn't show up in the list of POIs, good luck trying to navigate there. I don't have a cheap or slow phone by any means, but it was absolutely cooking while the app was open. Button presses took a good 10+ seconds for them to register
fix the freezing and crashing and it would be a great app. and it would help to have a button to report inaccuracies. I'd love to give five stars because it is easy to use initially. it's not easy to add another stop or look for truck stops or rest areas along the way while I'm driving. so far it has given me the fastest routes over the Garmin and Rand McNally even though they can be 20 to 50 mi more. it would just be nice if someone could create a reliable truck GPS.
it's quite a bit slow to react for my taste. the banners at the top and at the bottom don't provide correct easy to read information. the exit number is huge but I don't see miles for the next turn or destination time, because it's all too small. the mph on any highway or road that you're on comes and goes so you don't know what the speed limit is. can't change the voice there's a few things that need to be changed especially if truckers are using this on their phones.
3 stars feels kinda harsh because this is actually a great app, *most* of the time. It does exactly what you'd expect, and rather well. I was impressed by it's functionality and easy-to-use interface. I do, however, have two main issues: 1.) If you choose a route that's not the default, the keeps GPS reverting back if it has to adjust. 2.) Some addresses don't come up even though they're real addresses. Sometimes you have use nearby addresses on the same road.
I had been using this app for a few years and while it had its drawbacks it was a really good app. Since the "major upgrade" I have had nothing but problems with it. I don't know how you guys figure a route but it gave me a route 55 miles longer than taking the freeway. It didn't even come close to a decent route. Yesterday it just quit altogether. I open it up and it just closes itself out almost immediately. Maybe you could call Google and get some advice
Gave good general directions for large rigs. But my biggest complaint, big enough that I am uninstalling this app to use a different one, is that it is NOT current on POI locations. It told me to go to a truck stop that no longer exists. Like it certainly hasn't been there for a long time, if ever. Ended up backtracking about ten miles to go to a great big one that was not even listed as an option in the app.
I've been using this app for 4 months. Mostly it's pretty good. However, sometimes it takes you a back way through no trucks allowed streets. Very upsetting. And the business was just up another exit ez pz. I didn't know at the time. So for a free app, not bad. But kind of leary at the same time. Lol might be time to just spend the money on the garmin or that other one.
So... here's the thing. The maps are awesome, they show which places are good for your truck and trailer (which you can adjust in settings to fit your exact height and length) to turn into and out of. It also gives options for truck entrances instead of car entrances which is awesome! Sadly, however, that's all my praise for the app itself. Ita buggy, freezes near constantly, doesn't give advance warning on how close the turn is audibly, and doesn't know how to recalculate. Don't use it as a gps
Nearly perfect! Been using it for years and it led me down the wrong street once or twice. Again, it's a free app. For some reason the GPS lags when it's in full screen mode but works just fine when I shrink it down. Of course shrinking it also makes it more difficult to read the distance until the next turn. Having said that, it's a wonderful app and should be in every truckers phone 👍🏽
gives good truck routing, however could definitely use some improvements. I do like a lot of the options that was on the survey. the voice speech rate is really fast, but not loud enough. Other apps will pause music to give directions, this one is just lost in the background. other than that, seems like I have to update my location a lot. Over all, though I am pretty pleased with it so far. It just needs some work to make it more like what I'm used to.
It was working GREAT until a couple of days ago. It was very accurate and reliable. Since then it now gives directions that were turns an hour previous to my current location. It's not tracking me anymore, like other drivers said its crashing. I cannot rely on it and have stopped using it. Hopefully it will be fixed as I'd love to use it. I'd pay money for this app if it went back to being the accuracy it had up to a couple of days ago. *UPDATE* 2/22/20 5 weeks later, completely unreliable!
I really enjoy using TruckMap. I put in the address of where I am picking up or unloading in a big rig and voila. It takes me to my destination safely on truck routes. I love the satellite images from above. This helps me navigate the best way to approach my destination and also to scan for nearby truck parking. It's a great way to also look at options for getting in or out of a location just in case your route is blocked. Highly recommend 👌
The maps are solid and directions are accurate. Two things that, if adjusted, would make this a good trucking app. 1. Way too late on turn-by-turn directions. It will tell you that 5 miles take the exit but then that's just it. If you're not looking at the map, you have no other notification to take the exit. 2. When putting in an address for your stop, it will get you there and save the address but if you want to put a company name, you cannot edit. Better off with another app.
Great... Except for re-routes. Overall like the app, but one glaring issue keeps me from using it. Miss a turn, or have to go around a differnt way due to a road closure, it doesn't re-route you. It hangs on telling you to make the turn you missed and doesn't update until you find a way on your own to get back on it's original route or you stop navigation and start over... not something you want to deal with while working an unexpected traffic or road closure.
TruckMap has a lot of potential, but it does some crazy things. If an interstate has one toll lane (express lane) it tries to route you down backroads instead of allowing you to juat not use the express lane, which is generally illegal anyway. It also sometimes wants you to drive past an exit or street and pull a u-turn! The rest is great, but if it fails at its core (navigation), I cannot give it very many stars.
A GPS That Doesn't Know How To Give Directions. Never had the crashing issue but if you want precision, this is not it. If there is a split (fork) in the road the GPS will tell you to take the next exit rather than say keep left or right. Sometimes its Directions are so far forward you'll question if you missed a turn. I've taken the wrong way several times because this app will not tell you if you need to keep right or left. It also does this weird thing with the map where it will rotate.
Great concept and very helpful when it works - which is half the time. I've used it for a month now and had issues here and there, mostly closing at random times and I have to reopen it while driving. Lately it's been incredibly sloppy. It'll tell me to go down a road that leads nowhere instead of the street address, but because it's closer it practically tells me I need to drive through trees to get to my destination. I wont give up on it just yet but needs ALOT of work. It's downright sloppy.
Well, I'm not a trucker, I just needed it to stay off of Parkways in NYS. That said, I found the app to be lacking. It doesn't show traffic conditions, so it's guesswork figuring your ETA. It was a bit laggy and had me go in a circle a couple of times until I caught on and just LISTENED to it rather than follow the path. Also, when you're approaching a turn, it won't shut up until you do. Seriously, it will remind you, like, every 7 seconds until you make that turn.
Works okay, but on several occasions took me down roads with low clearance bridges. Also just such a comically slow UI. ETAs were wildly inaccurate. I would use Google and this and split the difference in ETAs to get a fairly accurate ETA. It was somewhat helpful, but I always had to be careful that it wasn't leading me somewhere I couldn't go.
Update killed it for me. Now it can't even do what's it suppose too. You know, GPS. Not to mention the constant crashing before the update. Worst of all, you can't just type in anything to gps. You have to mess around with the typing to finally be able to Gps the location. Went from 2 stars to 0, but had to give 1 star for the review.
