TurboTax: File Your Tax Return

TurboTax is slowly becoming more and more like bad click-bait with all their internal ads and constantly trying to get you to upgrade. I used to do my taxes for free and took 10min max, but with all the extra "let's try to improve your return" they've become their own worst enemy. I now have to pay ($30+) to file, get charged for direct deposit (I dont care if its early I just don't want it to get lost in the mail), and it takes min 1hr now. Annoying, Tedious, Expensive.

Very sneaky! Ive used turbo tax for the past 8 years. This might be the LAST time! I tried to use the do your own taxes like years prior. This year (2025 taxes), I was forced to pay for an upgrade to proceed. Also, it seemed like evey step of the way was a pop up to add some sort of service to get more $ out of you. Once my return was completed, I was forced to go to Credit Karma. I finally had to close out the turbo tax app and resign back into it to regain control.

Sure, it's easy to use and everything. However, I was told I needed to pay nearly $90 both last year AND this year just to be able to file. Last year, I was told I needed to upgrade just to be able to file for my school forms. That wasn't even because I owed anything for taxes. It was just a bill for using TurboTax. FOR BOTH YEARS! That is absolutely ridiculous. I will NEVER be using TurboTax again, nor will I be recommending it to anyone ever.

This is probably the last year, I'm strongly considering going back to H&R block. They seem to keep trying more and more ways to keep me from logging in to my account. I put in the email, old number is disconnected but has option for new #, put in new # for verification code, put in code, error message repeatedly saying we can't verify that code. Who's fault is that. Uploaded my ID and selfie to complete submission, nothing. May go to old jobs for W2s and just go somewhere else. this is absurd.

It seems like it changed this year. I got charged so much when it used to be free. i spent 200 dollars for a "tax expert" but i did it all myself. Also, the app sometimes kept going in circles on some steps.I have filed my taxes with them for at least 6 years but I am not too thrilled this year with turbo tax. I would look else where if I were you. I will also file somewhere else next year.

Quite buggy so far this year. Seems to always "continue where you left off," even taking me to the last section I was in when I'm trying to switch to another. I'm getting an abundance of "Unhandled failure in start" errors and a handful of white screens with navigation. The bugs are frustrating and are slowing down the process.

I have no idea what has been done to this app but it's garbage. I started my tax info input at least 5 days ago and I get all the way through everything is checked and good to go. get to the end review,select payment and then it loops back to review never allows me to sign and file. I have cleared cache on app and my device, used browser instead of app, completely restarted, Uninstalled app and reinstalled. changed payment option. made sure Device and app are up to date. and it's still looping.

Easy enough to use but they are getting greedy with the fees and the way the app pushes their partners. Currently they charge you for the Deluxe version and then if you want the fees deducted from your return they also add that as a charge. That means a $48 dollar service turns into an $88 service which they don't specify until the entire process is almost done. They also dont tell you it will be a charge for having you select that option. The app used to be good.

the application keeps me in a constant loop at the review order section. I'll complete step one and two out of three, but it restarts back to step one when I complete step 2 so I never get to step 3. my device is updated, the app is updated I even called customer service and after 30 minutes on the phone with them, they told me to "give it a few days and then file your taxes or call back" because the issue was on TurboTax end. even using the web browser to file, same issue.

I love using TurboTax! the app and desktop version are always super easy to use! BUT when you advertise FREE when I end up paying almost $300 in the end I may as well go have someone else do it. I have been using them for years like 30 years but the fees are getting out of control so this will probably be the last year! 😪

Used to be cheaper but they charge up as I get closer to the end and do all the work. It starts off saying free but I travel for work so I never qualify for the free version thats ok tho. My problem is at the end when it throws $79 for expert assist. I didnt receive any assist. $49 for state, $59 for turbotax benefits, $40 process fee. After u pay that total of $227. they send u to pay for another 40 bucks to get it direct deposit. Back in the day i was paying no more than $50 total!

turbo tax tries to sneakily steal additional $40 when you file your taxes with them. had to upgrade to their paid version for $49 due to interest earned in savings accounts. but don't worry they say.. they will just deduct it from your refund (sucks but oh well). but then later on they ask how you would like to pay their fee. if you click deduct from your refund they charge an additional $40 plus the $49 for their fee. luckily I caught onto it and just paid the $49 fee out of pocket. sneaky!

Honestly, disappointed. I've used turbo tax for many years and I have NEVER had to pay as much as I did this year to file. It honestly felt like snuck in fees and products I didn't actually use. I tried to find a way to go back to the "free" version but the main/ what seemed like the only answer was to restart. I ended up paying more than I ever have for services I didn't actually ask to use or intend to use.

TurboTax has gone downhill over the past 6 years. My least favorite thing is all the hidden fees they have at the end of filling despite claiming you can file for "free". They intentionally make it take forever. When you get to the end of your filling they force you to upgrade to deluxe. This year I said no more and filled with FreeTaxUSA, which is much better and faster. No hidden fees they actually care about their customers. I recommend filling with them instead.

I've used Turbotax for years because its free and easy. This year, I logged in to get started, verified that nothing had changed, and was then presented with 3 paid options and no way to go forward without selecting one of them. I'll probably look into other filing companies this year. Edit: Thanks for the response, but using the classic free version shouldn't require special instructions. My rating and opinion remain unchanged.

app don't work it keeps you in a constant loop, where you can't get to the end. The fees are ridiculous. they're making me pay a state tax fee, they charge you even if you reject it. keep in mind" Florida doesn't have a state tax, this company is a sham! They also make you pay for products that you're not using! even if you reject it, they'll show up in fees at the end!

This is the age of hidden fees and the bait and switch. I was given three options, let them do it, guided help, or do it myself. I chose the do it myself free version or so I thought. At no point can I switch my selection, $79 later and then they have the audacity to charge $44 to use it from the return. On the app there's a smallll section on the diy page for the free version. You can scroll right past it and not notice. They guide you into the paid version, making you hunt for the real one.

Finally managed to get it to accept my login information (after locking my account despite using the correct info) only for it to say "unable to connect to server" repeatedly whenever I tried to login. Uninstalled and reinstalled, same problem. Super disappointing.

TurboTax gets worse and worse each year. It's UI is slow, it's not user friendly at times, and there's way too many bogus fees. Doing state taxes is a nightmare if you just want to file by mail instead of paying another fee to efile. You have to get the CD/download for that. You can't start online/app and move to the software version. To pay TurboTax with your tax return? There's a fee for that ad well. Absolutely ridiculous. I only wish I could give TT half a star and stick to the paper forms.

I've been using turbo tax for 7+ years and have been happy with it. Filling for 2022 with turbo tax has been ridiculous. I will never use it again. It used to be super easy and inexpensive. Now, it's not any less expensive than visiting a tax professional in person. Not to mention, it seems like they're making their user interface more and more difficult to navigate, but they offer a more expensive package. TurboTax, you've lost a 7+ year return customer.
