Love the app, being able to get drops through watching some cool gamers. just not a fan of the 3 minute ads, I understand needing them to help. but for those who don't have the ability to buy the subscription on mobile, maybe do banner advertisement instead. After the ads end, the stream freezes and you have to refresh the stream cause it makes the viewers get left behind.
Super glitchy app. It often loses my place on vods and the mini player completely messes up sometimes. It gets stuck and becomes unresponsive. Can't even force stop the app when it happens. Can only fix by completely resetting my phone or uninstall/reinstall. It actually happens pretty frequently. so bad. Other than that everything works well.
After the recent update there are times where the app doesn't load with a continuous loading loop ending in a error page. Before I could watch a stream and see progress being made with drops according to game/streamer, but now nothing progresses at all. I logged out of the app, disconnected accounts with my twitch, and still nothing changed or was resolved. I haven't checked to see if the console version helps, but being on the go this was my alternative.
I haven't used twitch in a few years and it's still okay but the turbo pop up after every ad played is really annoying and the ads that played during the steams are the worst. It cause both the audio and video to stutter unless I paused the ad myself. Update: I REALLY don't want to see certain channels, yet I can't figure out how to block them or say I'm not interested. I thought they used to have this option but now it's gone.
This is an new review, but my rating will forever stay the same. Twitch Mobile is a rotting corpse y'all just need to put down already. For some reason, when watching certain streams at certain times, it'll randomly go back about 10 seconds or so. Doesn't sound like a lot. But it gets absolutely ridiculous when you're looking forward to someone reacting to something in a game and you get pushed back 10 or 15 seconds, then when you refresh, you get an ad. You're lucky there's a character limit.
The mobile app is isolating itself from the rest of twitch. they have increased subscription rates, and tried to 'balance it out' by removing the ability to upgrade subscriptions. I tried doing it on my computer, but was told that I cannot upgrade mobile subscriptions anywhere else, but I have spent almost an hour looking for ways to do as much on the app to no avail. I have to cancel my subscription then resubscribe on my computer in a month to actually do a high tier subscription.
This app sucks for phone. You can't search a person and go directly to their profile, you have to click on their vid or their live stream. Not only that, but you can't just click their name and block them, you have to click their name in chat (assuming they even chat) and then you can block them. Unless I have to report them first. Aside from all of that, this app is generally hard to understand. It feels too rushed and money centered.
This app has progressively gotten worse over the last year, and this is the final straw. The chat failures are just unbearable, random restrictions for no reason, censorship for no reason, app crashes, won't work with my VPN most days even with split tunneling and white listing, settings randomly switching on and off, and the list goes on. Might as well just use a decent browser with extentions on mobile. This app is trash.
Everytime I try to watch my girls stream the app bugs out. it wont let me comment at time. It wont let me redeem credits on stream at times. Sometimes I close the app and reopen it and nothing loads. Ive never dealt with such a buggy frustrating mobile app as twitch! if your streaming is on another platform watch elsewhere. It's not worth the annoyance that I deal with every single time I open the app. It would be different if it bugs once in a while but every time??? wouldn't recommend twitch.
An infuriating user experience from top to bottom. Pages often refresh, causing you to do actions you didn't intend (such as accidentally deleting clips/videos you didn't mean to delete). The homepage scroll is the most poorly implemented video scroll ever. Streams stutter and lag, and the app has a hard time loading videos in general. Genuinely just watch from desktop
The app has been getting better since the redesign. I still wish I had the option to set the "following" page to be what loads by default on launch. One major annoyance I've been getting the past month or so is the message about targeted advertisements. I have them turned off. It seems like at least once a day they're somehow being turned back on and I'm given a prompt about being able to opt out. I already opted out, stop trying to force me back in.
Bad customer support! I got a new phone number and forgot to change it on the app before switching. For some reason, my two-step authentication app, which was authy, expired. Now I'm stuck not being able to log in on new devices, and there's no live customer support chat to help solve the issue. Emails keep telling me the same thing that it's a problem with Authy! I'm an affiliate, too, that just got a new streaming setup, so I'm a little upset!
After the newest update, every single chat I'm in says "Your message is being checked by mods and has not been sent." when I try to send a message no matter what stream I'm in. Even chats I've been in for 10 years I'm getting that message in. This is only on mobile and not happening at all on desktop. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and it still didn't fix it.
The app somehow becomes worse in 2024. It used to be pretty good and functional. Now, whenever I want to go to a particular time in a VOD, somehow it's janky. Like sometimes it won't register my input. Not to mention, sometimes when watching a VOD, it would just buffer endlessly. It's most likely not my phone because the app used to run very well on a lower end phone I used to own.
Went from perfect to terrible, specifically with watching vods. Collections never have the vods in them no matter what. The app has been updated several times, and vods still aren't appearing in collections. Someone I follow has 36 vods in a collection, and when I open it, it says there's none. Please fix it. If I miss a stream, I can literally never watch it again due to this issue.
Very poor Chromecast support. Doesn't cast at the highest resolution by default. It also constantly forgets it's casting, so if you reopen the app to pause, it just starts playing in the app, despite it should know it's casting to another device. In general, it doesn't remember your position when watching VODs. Annoying trying to find your position again in a four hour video with no fine grain controls.
Can't verify account as it doesn't send the code to your phone number for unknown reasons. Seems to be a heavily reccuring issue that many people had brought up in various platforms and even contacted twitch to ask them to resolve this issue for at least more than half a year. Surprise surprise they have not address this issue, no word Abt it.
Oct 21 2024: Watching streams on my phone is LITERALLY unwatchable. The stream skips and pauses and loses connection. Bad. 8/28/2024: I really hate this latest mobile app update. I get switched to lives from ones I'm watching (and not by design). I'll get doubled up on audio from the streams I'm watching and other lives. I'm struggling to collect steam points. The mobile update has really made using the app worse.
Recent updates to the application have begun to follow a popular pattern where the application, if left to have permission to your notifications shade, will start to spam you in regards to multiple things you never signed up for notification on. As such, I've had to permanently disable this applications access to notifications because it chose to abuse that trust, and now I no longer get notifications when streamers go live, which is all I originally wanted notifications for.
The app gets worse with every update. Chat fails to load half the time, the new feed has terrible stream suggestions that have nothing to do with my interests, and the "viewers (high to low)" filter doesn't even work in a category. I shudder to think what else they might break next update. Oh well, at least the overlay chat on a stream is nice.
