App will often take ages to open. Won't open if the phone doesn't have Internet access. I've not been able to add my railcard to my app, even with new download codes requested. If it wasnt for the points I'd be using a different app. Virgin were the original founders of trainline, so it's odd that this app isn't at the same standard. Since my original post the app has frequently started saying "payment error" repeated when trying to pay with Google pay.
An utterly awful app for booking train tickets. very leggy, and I've lost count of the money I've wasted because the day very often doesn't update if you're booking a few tickets at a time. Double or even triple check the date is correct before you book, as even when you select the day you want it mysteriously changes before you come to pay. truly awful.
Tickets for the trains are about £20 more expensive than booking direct. there is no real support, asked for refund for a ticket for train journey in 7 days, says refund decision will take 10 days, if i dont get the refund I will use the ticket rather than loose £50 they alao charge £5 per ticket, not per booking per ticket to refund! it's SHOCKING service, I won't use again!
I have been trying to buy tickets for 2 days now, but keep getting this error - "Supply Chain Error code 3034 - no logical or physical availability". I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, restarted my phone, used an alternate card, and even downloaded the app on another phone, same error message. I called into customer service and they didn't know what to do, other than advise me to buy my tickets from another provider! So I am really disappointed as this has never happened before.
The app is okay, signing up and booking tickets is easy enough. I like that I can pay using Google Pay. However, one small thing that I think needs to be improved is that when it comes to the journey itinerary it should really include platform numbers when changing trains and it would also be good if the trains were trackable just like on Trainline. Apart from that, it's a decent app so far.
Easier to use and faster than the national rail app. Also Virgin Points can be earned and used to reduce fares paid. Split tickets are also offered. Good app!
App is fine although the help section is pretty poor full of broken links and dead ends which don't actually help. UX tip if you are asking people to go to a page then actually provide a link to it!
still experiencing the issue of app not computing when you change the date and/or time of a search for trains.
I've missed several trains due do poor Internet / waiting for the app to list to get access to my ticket. Can I suggest... Focus on fast startup / quick access to pre purchased tickets without the need for Internet please Updating this... today I've purchased a ticket, but the app is not able to show the 3D barcode. it's very frustrating that the only way to get Virgin's attention is through here - sometimes things break... you need to make it easy for us to let you know
Impossible to create an account. When you enter your email address it sends a code to verify your email, but looking at your email to find the code takes you back to the beginning in the app and you have to enter your email address again and get a new code. So you are stuck in a loop of doom until you give up. Every other app manages not to do this, so doesn't bode well for buying train tickets either!
almost impossible now to use. Try to book a day and time for a train and you get white text on a white background when selecting days and times. That's almost impossible to read, making it really hard for me to select what trains I want to book. can you change it back to having black text on white background? that way it's readable
Good for the points and no booking fees but it takes too long to get from opening the app to my journey information. 3 presses to find the information and no alerts if anything changes. Also doesn't seem to cache anything so if you don't have data the app won't open and you can't see your journey details when you have poor signal like on a train. Needs to be more like trainline app Basically completely useless if you've got poor data signal
It's a good way to book train tickets and the Virgin points are a nice bonus. The Google Wallet integration is pretty good, but it would be even better if I could add the outward and return parts of a ticket at once instead of adding one, switching back to the app and adding the second part. Fix that and this is a 5-star app.
Use this app daily, switching from the SWR app, had been a better user experience. Been a couple of days where it (and maybe other similar apps) has failed over the last few months but generally very reliable. Couple of points for improvement: Don't drop trains that are less than 5 mins away from the search results. It's just adding an extra click for people in a hurry. Make downloading multiple journey history/receipts easier, currently I end up manually collating them when they're needed.
It's a bit stupid that, if you have network on but there's no or a poor connection, all of your tickets disappear... You even see them for a split second before they disappear. You have to force close the app, turn off all network connections, then re-open the app in order to access your ALREADY DOWNLOADED TICKETS offline. At first I was worried I lost my tickets, now it's just a huge pain. Also, I'm having difficulties logging in. The increasing problems I'm having is making it not worth it
You can't say that tickets are always available offline, and then refuse to let us into the app without an update when I want to access the tickets I bought the night before. It says they were also emailed to me- THAT IS NOT OFFLINE. Review replier from virgin why can't *you* send it? There aren't any "details" are there
The interface is clean and easy to navigate. The timetabling and purchase side of the app are superb. However, the actual journey can be a pain as it keeps going to sleep (no matter what settings I use on my oppo phone) resulting in having to reopen the app and navigate to the QR code again. On several occasions I have arrived at the exit gate of my local station to find the app closed, requiring a trek back to the platform to find an internet signal to reopen the app! Otherwise great.
Apps pretty good and all, I just didn't know virgin had a ticketing app considering the franchise left the WCML a while ago for Avanti to step in! Just booked a ScotRail service and didn't really find any issues. 4 stars because the only special or uniquely good part about the app is no booking fees. Otherwise pretty straightforward and ordinary.
Downloaded it tonight to buy tix for tomorrow, created an account, went through the whole process of verification etc, but unable to log in at all, getting server time out error everytime. Not great, it's p much wasting my time at this point so I'm going to remove and use my usual apps.
super easy to use app and a bonus being able to use your Virgin points pay for the train tickets
