Not as useful as it should be. This app connects a remote thermometer to essentially the capable computer we all have in our smartphone. It will tell you the temperature of your food, and if you select the kind of food it will tell you what you should cook it to for safety and the correct doneness. It doesn't, however, do any of the steps in between. It should be telling us when to flip the food, how long to rest it, and anything needed to make the food perfect. This all really needs an upgrade!
Such a helpful tool! The graph view is great for predicting cook time. It works well when I'm in the kitchen near the device. Improvements that would really help: 1. The device lights are not easy to see, especially outside in the sun. I've often run out of batteries because i didn't realize I'd left out on. 2. Bluetooth isn't very strong, so I lose connection and the app doesn't clearly tell me I'm disconnected. So it's not good for monitoring a pork shoulder smoking in the grill outside.
Somewhat Decent. However, the app constantly tries to connect to the igrill. Even when I completely close the app and the igrill is off. Every day for a week after I used the igrill, I would constantly get error messages on the bottom of my screen saying it can't connect to it. Had to uninstall the app because it was so annoying and draining battery. Fix this and I'll give the app 5 stars, but that's a terrible issue that can't be ignored.
Notifications are no longer available at all on the latest update for android so the app is almost useless. No more being notified when your target temperature is reached. Hopefully this change was an accident from the devs. Nevertheless, I found the old version from Nov 22' on apkpure I believe it was called. Make sure to turn off auto update for the app.
The app works with the device well. The app setting for fish, is way too low, unless you like really raw fish. You can adjust for this flaw buy calling it chicken. I recommend that the developer allow the user to select their own alarm setpoints, rather than rigidly fixing them to USDA suggested value. Also, it would be nice to include a recommended cook time instead of only a recommended cook temp.
Disappointed in the range. When it's connected it's great. My smoker is away from the house, so every time I go inside it disconnects. Have to turn off the unit, force close the app and turn off Bluetooth. Starting it all back up works (without phone restart like some users), and it does remember what I was doing once it connects. Update: 4 Stars now, much better when coming back into range.
Before Weber consumed the iGrill, zero issues. Now, I get errant probe readings, readings on ports that are not being used, connectivity issues. Yes, I have the latest updates. No, I don't feel I should have to "...remove batteries and wait 30 seconds, etc. etc." Throw the dev team a bone for improvements and consider a web-based option, so users can track while out of Bluetooth range, i.e. check temp while running to the store for more batteries.
The iGrill device and app are pretty cool when they're working, but a few days after I bought mine, it started refusing to pair with my phone... First, powering the iGrill down and back up would solve it, but then, a few days later, it stopped working completely. Tried resetting it several times, and no dice. Very frustrating. I have several other Bluetooth devices that don't have this problem with my Samsung Galaxy S9+, so I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the iGrill. It turns out resetting my phone resolved the issue for now. Hopefully I don't end up needing to do that regularly to get it to work. If not, I'll increase my rating.
Great App, Hardware lacking this would be great if there were better controls for the thermometer probe and unit side of things. the app is rocking, good alert system, ease to figure out, even warns you if youre setting the incorrect temps for certain types of food. but like everything else, the weakest link in the chain is the... weakest link. the hardware portion of this is horrible, how can i clean probes without wetting them? if i wet probes they give wrong readings for months... SO CLOSE..
The app does what it is supposed to do as far as temperature monitoring. It is easy to use. However, it will not shut down. There is no log off button. No exit button. It just keeps running. I click that all my cooks are finished and back out of the app. I turn off the thermometer. The app pops up and tells me the device is off or out of range. Of course it is. I finished cooking an hour ago. I constantly have to pull the app up in settings and force it to stop.
Used to be a great, easy to use app. Always was a bit fickle when pairing, but once paired it worked well. Since the update, it's fairly useless. Beef brisket done to an internal temp of 195? Should be 160 degrees and I was unable to choose that. So, I just used my phone to watch the temp, as I couldn't rely on the alarm. Also took multiple attempts to pair with my phone. Change it back to the old app please.
Update: My experience with the product got worse. It would constantly lose connection more than a few feet away. I would take the battery out after every use. Went to use it now and like many others, I cannot pair the device to my phone despite a blinking green light and my phone saying paired. Tried everything the app said to troubleshoot. Does weber have any solutions besides "our team is looking into it?" Extremely discouraged.
I don't like this latest update. The app from a few years worked much better. It paired more reliably and most important, you were able to zoom out on the graph much further. Currently, you are only able to see about 30 mins or so. Prior to this release, you were able to zoom out on the graph, switch to landscape, and see where the current temp line was going to converge with the set temp. This allowed you to estimate when the meat would be done.
So far, decent app. However, it should *not* require access to my phone location to configure. I know where my grill is, and you don't need to know. I turned off location access after getting connected and it works fine. In addition, on an Android phone, it shows the temperatures of the probes in the notification area. However, the colors of yellow and green are swapped in the notifications. Revised rating: location problem is not Weber's fault.
I like the app and features. My problem is connecting to my mobile via Bluetooth. Sometimes it connects as soon as I open the app, and sometimes I go in an endless circle of trying to get it to connect. This would just be a minor annoyance if it did not decide to disconnect mid cook EVERY time because I walk out of the room or back into the house. I have changed battery several times and still have this issue. Otherwise it would be a 5 star review.
When it works it's very convenient. Unfortunately, it seems that every time I start the app I have to reboot my phone (Moto X4) before it will find the transmitter. Another issue I have is that when i don't have the app running, it seems to always be searching for the transmitter. I constantly get notifications that the phone can't find a Bluetooth device who's MAC address I've traced back to Weber. This only stops if i uninstall the igrill app.
Connects to my s8 with out a problem. It seems even faster to connect. I have a I grill mini. Don't know why every one else has issues. Really like the new layout. My prime rib came out perfect using this. 2/24/19 still works great. have not used on the grill. afraid that the heat will burn out the prob. but in the oven. i use it all the time.
Too unreliable. Even though it shows connected, it is often not. Normally the only way to get it reconnected is to pull the battery for about 10 minutes so that on reinsert it goes back into pairing mode. When it works, it is OK despite a very limited range. I like that unlike my Mavericks it has a thin tip probe, so I want to use it for most things other than pork butt.
I've had this product, with 3 probes plus grill temp probe for a full year and have used it probably two dozen times. The overall result is greater consistency and guess work. However, there are a few bugs in the app that frustrate. Sometimes not able to save graphs and images. When entering in comments, the cursor jumps to the beginning of the text stream if left for a couple of seconds between text entries. Also, the alarms for readiness or out of range doesn't have programmable deadband
When Weber obtained iGrill, I thought the performance of the app declined drastically. But it seemed to eventually improve -- maybe they problem was on my end, I don't know. It's not the easiest hardware and app to use, but I enjoy it overall. It uses batteries fast if you're not careful by leaving it on... Sometimes it hard to know if the device has been successfully turned off. I recommend.
