WGAL News 8 and Weather

If it weren't for the local weather reports, I wouldn't have the app downloaded. The very frequent use of CNN articles for their "news" shows a bias that nobody can deny. I would prefer fact based news. And find it elsewhere.

Good stuff, but poor editors. It seems that editors and writers who have a degree of some sort can't spell things properly. I'm not the grammar police, but when an alert pops up on my phone, the first snippet of information I see shouldn't be a misspelled word for someone who went to school for writing. I have seen roughly 10 grammatical errors in the past month, whether it be using a zero instead of an o, "slow" instead of snow, or spelling South Korea as South Korean. Makes me ? The integrity

The app is great. The editorial responsibilities, not so much. That's what seems to happen when you don't have a real person proofreading before an article is uploaded to the app.

Great source for news, but the search feature for finding old articles is TRASH. i.e. I tried to do a search for the new cell phone band while driving, nothing about it, all kinds of other articles from past 5-6 years, but nothing 2025. (Just one example) I ended up having to come out and just Google it. At this point they should also offer a paid version, they have way too many commercials while trying to watch a 30-minute newscast rerun. Do Better So You Can Be Better.

Horrible app. Never could get the weather alert feature to work on any phone I had. Also, old news. They only seem to update news every 24 hours and by the time it is on this app, I've already read it somewhere else.

I think WGAL News 8 is the best news app in the Google Play store I had some news apps on here and they ain't near as good as WGAL News 8 they're right on with the weather now you let you know when storms are approaching how many minutes or hours they are away or miles they keep you informed about accidents case you're traveling so people install this app you won't be sorry and if I could I would give this up 1,000 Stars and great job to the developers and I would give them a thousand stars✨✨.

Their weather forecast are never accurate until about 15 minutes before something changes or happens. They say "33" in York but when I leave for work my car says 48 the entire 45 minute drive. The same goes for your broadcast. You cannot count on them for correct information. AccuWeather and Weather Channel apps and broadcast are more accurate than they are. Deleting this app because its a waste of space.

The app works well, but one very annoying feature of this app that caused me to take off a star is the fact that many articles feature an auto-playing video that starts with an ad that CANNOT BE PAUSED. I don't usually want to watch the video portion of an article, and the ad playing when I'm in public can be disruptive and annoying to other people. I can fix the issue by muting my phone, but a better fix altogether would be to disable auto-play. Otherwise, WGAL is my go-to local news source.

I like the app, but the stories are always the same. I check it everyday for weather and updates and except for a couple of the news headlines the rest of the articles are the same for weeks. I would think in today's technology world that someone could keep up and change the stories, even if it's a couple of days old. Not weeks.

Good local news & weather coverage but I wish they would fix the Chromecast feature in Android app. After clicking the Chromecast icon & selecting the device the app connects to Chromecast but goes into infinite buffering. Watching it on my phone is too hard on my eyes so I rarely watch it and we don't have cable.

Notifications should be more customizable, right now it's "all or nothing" and I get a lot of updates that I don't really care about. There's also too many ads that autoplay videos which is fairly annoying when I just want to read the article.

I have followed this news for 20+ years and love it! But lately there's soooo many commercials/ads on the app during the news I feel like I'm watching more ads than news? This just changed recently. Please calm down with the ads! Each ad block is 6-10 ads that's are 30 sec long each and only 5 min of news in-between ads. With out the ads it's a 5 stars

The app has quite a few stories to read. It is easy to find traffic and weather. Not too many ads or anything like that. Love the now cast feature to watch the news from my phone when I'm out and not around a tv.

Wouldn't have any news, weather app. Up-to-date, local info, the best there is!!! Would like to know how to make the WGAL-Weather to show on my Homescreen, showing, Location, Temp, date, time & if possible: 5 day outlook. Showing just temp, clouds (rain, snow, sun, etc).

Locks up after watching the newcast for 10 min at the first commercial. Been doing this for years, so I will uninstall again. Do not recommend. Got a new pixel 3 and your app still sucks. Locks the phone up. Have to power phone off to get out of the app.

WGAL is always quick with breaking news and story updates. However, many stories are too short and superficial. Written stories are needed to accompany video voiceovers and packages; see WRC's NBC Washington service for a good example of how this can be accomplished. Overall, WGAL News 8 remains a very useful application.

My go to for weather information. Would give it 5 stars if the weather feature had air quality/allergens info. I have to keep a separate weather app just for that.
