Love the app! Honestly, I probably am using Wikipedia more than my web browser or reading articles from Google. Only one small issue I found: when in dark mode, the captions under images is a dark gray instead of the white like the rest of the article text. This makes it virtually impossible to see. Doesn't matter what article, if there's an in-line image, there's a barely readable, gray caption underneath if.
This is such a great, well made app. It's probably my favorite app on my phone right now. You can create reading lists of different subjects and they are available offline. Furthermore, when reading an article and clicking on a highlighted word it gives a summary overlay popup that doesn't pull you away from the current article, however you can go to the full article if you desire to. This app and wikipedia in general are one of the silver linings of the attrocious noise the internet and apps have become.
EDIT: The issue below is no longer happening, and the app runs great! This app is usually fantastic, and I'll happily increase my rating to a five if a recent issue is resolved. Since the most recent update, the app repeatedly says that it isn't responding when it's working just fine, and it won't stop until I quit out. Even if I go to my home screen or open another program, the error message just keeps coming.
Great app if you like to do research often. I've always used Wiki as a "jump-of" point for learning about something. If the facts need to be verified, I've already got the information to confirm, and very seldom have I been mislead. Usually it gives me a good starting point for continued reach whether online or at a library. If you like Wikipedia and use it frequently, or just like a quick reference for whatever, this app is much more convenient then using my browser every time. Light, simple
My favorite app by far. I use the Wikipedia mobile app more than any other, perhaps second only to my browser. My only suggestion is to add a way to search your Lists in the dialog, as I have so many that I have to scroll quite a bit to find the right one sometimes. It'd also be nice if it was possible to access the Lists menu from the Explore/New Tab page.
Wiki app. does provide more tools to view download articles , post , and some are more elaborated. It does need some improvements .Some articles through the app. dosen't always seem to have the same information format , and may be missing current info .It needs to have the option on the prompt to either open the articles online directly or to use the app. It only asks on the popup when searching articles in the browser , under wiki ( cancel or open with wiki app. )
Mostly good but it messes up when I try to open a link from Firefox in the app, like it will display the wrong image and if I refresh it it will go to an entirely different page, which is very frustrating. Also I really don't get the 100 tab limit at all but if that has to exist it would be *very* nice to have a setting to close tabs after x days or some other way to keep them under control.
Love love love having the Wikipedia app mainly because, every time I hear a piece of trivia I don't know, I open a Wikipedia tab about the subject and leave it to research later in a reading binge. Which brings me to my issue which causes me to rate 3 stars instead of 5- it maxes out at 100 tabs, then starts closing old ones without telling you. Please consider upping the tab limit! I would gladly see the app lag out if I could have more tabs open.
The app is great! And is now better than the browser/web version. The image viewer is quick and streamlined along with the articles. The in-app dictionary is very handy and faster than looking up definitions externally. It took a long time before I liked the app better than the web version.
The new dark mode, and link colors, look stellar! The secondary gray boxes should be more of an off shade of dark blue gray, within reason. Use the same design principles as you use in light mode. Also the cover images aren't showing as of the most recent update.
in app Wikipedia I can't translate webpage like you did on chrome (translate the page) and other feature like listing you can adjust list like 0 to 100 or 100 to in online Wikipedia but not in app version wikipedia is a useful app and I use frequently that's why I downloaded but those features just Mention should be in it otherwise app is good
SITUATION IS GETTING WORSE! Unfortunately, it constantly freezes and fails to update pages. That's quite a famous problem that the Wikipedia app shows the header of the previous article, so the currently open one cannot be properly read and disappears when updated. Moreover, pages are often simply not loading. The problems are present for years, but during the last few months they got way more frequent and disappointing.
Great app, free knowledge and what not, has unreliable information sometimes though and it can be a little misleading, like the time, I searched myself up, and I came up, and saw myself titled as "Professional Prat". Not very nice is it?
my favourite part about the app is you don't *have* to use it. you can. it has cool extra features. but the site works fine and doesn't prompt you to switch to the app every 5 seconds! i love that!! i literally found out there even IS an app from a tumblr post. Fabulous. if the pressed it hard like some sites do, i would never have tried the app.
Maybe I don't know how to use this app properly, or maybe it's not user-friendly, but I can't seem to find the references to answer my questions here. It seems that all it's interested in is writing articles that are focused on the fringes of the subject matter I'm looking for. Want to know about a book? This'll tell you about its ad campaign or the author's circumstances writing it. Just not the book itself. 🤦
i rather use wiki on google/chrome than installing it if it looks like this. i thought it get better if i install wiki app, but it was.. so disappointing because i keep try to log in but it keeps me log out automatically for no reason??¿ i was excited because i just installed it but didn't expect i got this. :((☹️😔 fix it bro pls why i love wiki so much
In dark mode, even though the image dimming option has been deactivated, images in the article are still dimmed. Additionally, some images cannot be zoomed; despite being online, it says “Gallery view not available offline.”
I really like to play the "which event was before" game, wish there were more similar games. and I like that the setup supports multiple languages, this is especially good for language learners.
this app used to be great. until it started blocking me from adding my account and editing pages around 5 minuted ago. the funniest thing that it did was it let me do that on the website itself which was after what happened on the app. so I just won't be using Wikipedia anymore. I'll find another source to get information.
For some reason, once I click on a photo to enlarge it appears much dimmer than its thumbnail. That happens to all photos on the app. Please fix this bug. Thanks!
