The Technavia news reader app is great. It presents you with pictures of each page and let's you tap a story to read it. You then get a full phone-screen-wide text window that you can scroll through. I find it very easy to read the entire paper using it. You can easily print articles from it, if you have a printer service app set up on your phone. You can also share articles to others via email or text. The app is reliable and seldom crashes. My local paper now uses it, too.
I enjoy having the convenience of reading articles from a format (print version) which allows me the order I prefer to read the sections, pages and articles of my choosing. Some days I may not have time for my favorite reading mode, which is a thorough read of most of the paper with little or no distractions. So having quick access to those sections and articles I lean toward, or which a headline or What's News highlight points to my highest interest, is an excellent 'customer delight' kudo!
Love WSJ! Good reporting with a slight conservative view. My favorite sections are opinion & review, crossword, and mansion/real estate. Can't read it as much as I used to when I got the paper copy, so now I have the app to carry it with me wherever I go! I read little bits in between my obligations allowing me to stay informed, educated, and entertained with my "screen time".
the app gets the job done with a simple interface between the individual articles and the entire paper
For me, the print edition app is much easier to navigate than the regular WSJ app. I grew up with the WSJ paper and know the layout well. The app makes it easy to navigate the journal in a familiar way. Some improvement is needed as some links don't work seamlessly yet however the app is a really good start.
Reading is fine but the audio could use some work. You have to keep the app open to listen and you have to manually select the next article, it would be nice if you could listen through with out haveing to stop and select the next article to listen to.
I mainly use this the app on flights. I am always reminded of the times when newspapers and magazines were handed out to passengers. the app works perfectly and gives the experience of reading a printed newspaper that we don't do for so many years.
I enjoy reading the print edition which closely mimics reading the paper and allows one the option of opening any article and reading it fully in bigger print. Also, unlike some other papers online there is no need to download each edition, it just opens up. Thank you WSJ!
Not a very user friendly app. I have to sign in each time I open the app and enter a username and a password apparently it doesn't store them. Very annoying. I don't know why I have to enter a username and a password every time I open the app or I download the daily newspaper. Pretty ridiculous! Sometimes I actually have to enter the password and the username while I'm reading the thing when I'm switching between stories and closing one story and opening another.
Overall, I really appreciate this app. I'm able to listen to the articles as I do things that make reading impossible. I hope more time, effort and money will be put into the audio aspect of this app. It has so much potential with a few changes. As it is now, I often find it funny the way stories are read by a computer. With AI around the corner now, I have a feeling this will be a much more common way of listening to a newspaper. I hope the audio controls will become more like an audiobook.
Good idea but hard to navigate. Sometimes causes me to go back to page 1. Cannot use copy paste from be a password manger to login. First copy of account name/,email works but when app gets focus the 2nd time for password, app reloads and erases to he first( account name) field. WSJ - please keep working on this. I like reading this way more than your other to be app organized by topics.
The print edition is ideal for me. Let's me look quickly over all the articles, then you can select articles and have a more reader-friendly version if you like. There are frequent typos though, as if words were getting spliced together, I believe related to where page breaks are in the print version.
Note to app maker. Two ways to improve this app. Reformat so that hyphens don't show up in the middle of a line. Apparently text with hyphens is copied straight format newspaper formatted version. I hate scrolling. Tap right screen to load next page would be great. This is how Kindle works. Love reading without ads.
This news apps works in a very simple but cleaver way bringing the feel of looking over a full paper print edition to our small phone screens. When opened it takes us back to the days of looking over a printed version but with an easy zoom inward, all photos and articles become crisp and clear. Clicking an article then gives us a regular phone view of the article. It really is the best of both worlds, ( without the actual paper feel in your hands ) Well done to the team who designed this WSJ app
Bring able to read a newspaper that looks like the original is nostalgic. You would assume that reading a full newspaper on a small screen would be hard, but the app proves multiple ways to move around the different articles. You could also just click on the articles are read them on one scrolling screen.
Nice, easy-to-use functions enabling quickly moving from one page to another, increasing the size of a particular article in its original printed text format, seeing the same article in an easy-to-read alternative text format, and so forth. Well thought out functions. Almost as good as a paper copy!
More than adequate. Local delivery here, and apparently elsewhere, sketchy. Used this for 2 weeks - once past the navigation hurdles seems to be same as the print version, with less paper to find a place for. Editors are a reactionary waste, but staff writers very good and very varied. Other choice was NY Times, which matches my politics closer, but they have a reputation for being loose with the troothe. I like this app and will likely renew quig
This is a great idea and an idea whose time has come. No more delivery issues dealing with hard copy delivery systems. Now, offer tools to highlight, annotate and file articles in folders, and complete the crossword and we have a daily! This IS the future of newspapers.
Using the link to continue reading an article is a a little cumbersome. I would also like to see the link to take you back to previous page at the end of the article instead of having to go back to other end of article. These are are minor changes that would make a great app a little better.
Best performing print news app among those I use. It is stable, and works well on an Android phone; zoom into text works consistently well, and is compatible with Android gesture (swipe) nvagation on the phone. Highly recommended; wish our local newspapers used the same app.
