This latest update reduced the amount of information that is viewable at a quick glance. What I loved about Yahoo Finance was how quick I could scan and scroll through information. Now I have to navigate to get to information that was once aggregated in a single screen. The data still lags a bit, which has always been my complaint... but for a free app, I could live with it.
Great free stock tracker app! While deleting stock holdings do not show all stocks or in any kind of order to "edit symbols," it is still a great app that tracks your stock and ETF holdings. When researching stocks or ETFs, the analysts recommendations do not always show, unlike when using Yahoo Financial on a laptop. So, the same free features are not available on the app.
The news articles often come with the usual extreme Yahoo bias, but otherwise, I highly recommend it. The info and charting that is available (I keep it set to include stochastic momentum), and the range of historical timelines is useful for visualizing when to buy or sell. Update: I don't know what they did, but the app keeps glitching now. It won't display any full scale charts.
I love Yahoo finance, but the app has issues that I think are easily fixable. For starters, if you don't have access to a TV, and you have to steam it on your phone, sometimes the app lets you "picture in picture" the "live" feed, and then sometimes it doesn't. (doing the exact same thing) so then, you're forced to watch it like a normal video, which then every time your phone rotates or you accidentally touch the screen, the video stops and you have to watch the commercials all over again.
Normally I have loved this app. However, since the last update, I've had a lot of problems with clicking on a stock and instead of going to the details for that stock, it just spins. If I exit Yahoo Finance and restart then I can go to the stock fine. But if I'm looking up several stocks, the same issue reoccurs. And sometimes if I'm trying to check out stock price history, when I click on 1 month, or 6 months, etc. the numbers don't change. This is fixed if I restart Yahoo Finance.
I like it a lot but it often seems to struggle with displaying holdings correctly. I might own £100 of a share but it will inflate the price and loss/gain by a factor of 100 on some screens, telling me I have £10000 instead. Seems to happen when I click on individual stocks... the summary pages showing all my holdings are correct.
Excellent, easy to use financial app + excellent news stories. I've tried most of the free financial apps; this is definitely the best one. (One minor quibble: it would be better if they showed the Dow, S & P 500 and NASDAQ numbers in BOTH points AND percentages on the home screen. You can tap on it, to change from points to percentage, and vice versa, but it would be easier and better if BOTH were automatically displayed on the home page.)
It is a good software if you only want to track stock prices. If you add any stocks/funds to a folder to track daily changes, then the app is insufficient. It won't adjust for stock split. Also, if you trade and then use the buy/sell function to add/substract your shares, the graph is all messed up!!! I have actually earned money this year, but it shows I have lost money. For some crazy reason, while the dollar amount in my portfolio is calculated correctly, the graph shows a total different pic
It is a good app for charts and news related to stocks. There are occasional loading issues and the financial metrics are not always updated. I look at numerous stocks regularly and find missing P/E data, yields, expense ratios (on ETFs), and other similar holes in the data. This isn't every stock, but I would estimate that about 1 in 10 have something missing. Despite that, it is still one of the easiest and most accessible free options that investors and traders can use in my opinion.
Generally, an easy app to create and follow a list of stocks. My gripe is the watchlist used to be easier to read. Now, there is a tiny 1 day chart inserted between symbol and current price/change that is a waste of space and reduced the font size of the stock symbol, current price, and change. If I want to see the chart, I'll click on the symbol and view it... I've searched everywhere for how to remove that useless chart on the watchlist page with no luck. Android.
Easy to use. I miss the old graphs that showed dividend histories, but it's one my favorite financial apps. I would give it five stars, if Yahoo adds the dividend feature back on the standard graphs. I still miss the old graphs with splits and dividend details, but it's improved since my last review. You need to increase the number of securities that can be added. Thanks to DRIP plans and fractional purchases it's a lot easier to hold multiple securities than it was in the past.
Latest update is terrible. It shows the total value of my holdings and daily gains and losses, but it won't show the lots purchased (dates and prices) that I took all the time to enter. Either says unexpected error, or occasionally says I need to login, only I am logged in. obviously it still has the information on the lots as it wouldn't be able to show my gains and losses, so what the heck Yahoo??
The app mostly works for a quick app to check prices. The app can kind of track your accounts if you add your positions. Yahoo very much has an agenda as far as the "news" they present to you. Most of their articles are editorial in nature, churned out by shills. If you can stomach the constant attempts at market manipulation Yahoo throws at you. I would think yahoo would curate their "news" a little better, but I guess if msm is ever investigated for market manipulation, there is a long trail.
Update: I adjusted my stars ( wish I could do 2.5 stars) because an important sector of investing are not allowed to be added to your list. Crypto investments should be allowed to add to your list. I have more in Crypto than in stocks at the moment. Please add Crypto investments to your platform so we can add it to our portfolio. Thank you for considering. I am editing my review as the crashing issue has been resolved. I really like the news I get from this app, very informative.
Extremely overpriced, $35/month or $350/year. Any information found within this app can easily be accessed with a quick Google search or contacting a company directly. For the trading aspect, there's another company that offers $0 commission free trading. If you'd lower the price, I'd be more compelled to buy premium. I do like that this app makes things easier and less time consuming but for the price, it doesn't make up for the time invested in doing my own research.
love it ! one of the best programs out there, for what it does. We need it every day, and there is not a good substitute. However, it gets loaded up, gets latent, and crashes, sometimes even has mistakes and shows green when stock is down. It is a deep program and can track tons and tons of data. Keep improving it, we need it. It has been the best stock and market tracker for the last 25 years
Yahoo had a great app for viewing stocks live, until they changed it around March 10, 2019. Before it was streamlined and you could see many securities on one page. And if you wanted more detail, you could open it up with one click. Now it comes in large font and which only allows a handful on one page. Additionally, the volume is always wrong and the securities do not update in real time. I have never understood why software writers make changes that are not improvements, but the opposite.
Up-to-date, latest financial data in the palm of my hand. My favorite stocks, prices of commodities, interests rates, and the latest headlines--all at the tip of my finger-tips....this is a truly awesome app imo! May 6th 2019: New Version is awful, inaccurate, crashes and is in no way an improvement on the older, "great version", I highly rated above. All this version is, is an attempt to cram more ads in and among the app. It's sad to see so much of technology, go this way; Newer NOT better!
It is much, much better than it used to be. I run a fairly long watch list, and my research on various symbols is now faster. Financial data loads much faster than back in 2019. It is a good second opinion source with data, rather than reading so many " pump and dump" articles with interesting headlines, but no meat, and they bait you to join their "Pro" subscription that still doesn't have the data to back up their opinions.
It's baffling how this app got 4 stars. It is utterly useless. It shows one of my stocks is up 43¢ when in reality its up 13¢. This happens everyday. Column headers do not freeze. No landscape mode in portfolio view. I get a notification and when I click on it, it plays a video ad...I don't think so. This app fails in the one thing it's supposed to do. But then it's Yahoo so I am not surprised. They can't even get email right after 25 years. Useless company.
