ADT+ADT+ADT+ADT+

Moments of Insight

The ADT+ app aims to consolidate home security and smart home management into a single interface, providing users with a centralized hub for their ADT security system, Google Nest devices, and other compatible smart devices [1, 2, 5]. This integration strives to offer a seamless user experience, simplifying the control and monitoring of various aspects of home automation and security [1, 5].

  • The app allows users to arm and disarm their security system remotely [1, 5].
  • It provides live video streaming and access to video history from Nest cameras [1, 5].
  • Users can receive personalized alerts and emails for events around their home [3].
  • The "Trusted Neighbor" feature allows granting temporary access to trusted individuals [3, 5].

Balanced Perspectives

Advantages
  • Integration: Seamlessly integrates ADT security with Google Nest and other smart devices [1, 2, 5].
  • Remote Control: Offers remote arming/disarming and device management [1, 5].
  • Alerts: Provides customizable alerts for various home events [1, 5].
  • User-Friendly Interface: Claims to offer an intuitive interface for easy navigation [7].
  • Professional Installation: Option for professional installation for users who are not tech-savvy [8, 9].

Disadvantages
  • Video Issues: Some users report issues with the video function, such as black screens and inability to zoom [6].
  • Compatibility Issues: Older Nest devices may not be fully compatible [3].
  • Account Issues: Users have experienced account errors and login problems [3].
  • Feature limitations: Some integrations with Google devices may not function perfectly [7].
  • Pricing: Monthly monitoring service can be expensive, especially for advanced features [18].

Mindful Observations

The app's performance appears to be a mixed bag. While some users praise its speed and ease of use [10], others report encountering glitches, errors, and compatibility issues, particularly with video streaming [3, 6]. The integration with Google Nest devices is a significant selling point [1, 2], but some users have found the integration to be incomplete or buggy [3, 7].

Technical Performance

The app's stability and loading speed seem to vary. Some users report a fast and responsive experience [10], while others have experienced delays and errors [3, 6]. The app's ability to function offline may be limited, as many features require an internet connection [1, 2].

Thoughtful Reflections

From a digital well-being perspective, the app offers both potential benefits and drawbacks. On one hand, it can enhance peace of mind by allowing users to monitor their home remotely and receive timely alerts [1, 2]. The "Trusted Neighbor" feature [3, 5] adds a layer of security and convenience for managing access to the home. However, the app's potential for glitches and errors [3, 6] could also induce anxiety and frustration, detracting from overall well-being.

The app collects various types of data, including location, personal information, and usage data [5, 6, 13]. While ADT states that data is encrypted in transit and users can request data deletion [5, 6], it's important for users to carefully review the privacy policy to understand how their data is being used and shared [11, 12, 13, 15].

Harmonious Integrations

The ADT+ app strives to create a harmonious integration of security and smart home functionality. Its success in achieving this goal appears to be dependent on several factors, including the user's specific device configuration, internet connectivity, and tolerance for technical issues. For users deeply invested in the Google Nest ecosystem [1, 2], the ADT+ app may offer a compelling solution for centralized home management. However, those seeking a more seamless and reliable experience may want to explore alternative options from ADT's competitors [14, 16, 17, 19], such as Vivint or SimpliSafe [16, 17, 19].

Overall

The ADT+ app shows promise in its attempt to unify home security and smart home control. However, potential users should carefully weigh the app's features and benefits against its reported drawbacks and consider their own technical expertise and tolerance for potential issues.

Inferior to Google Guard system. The only reason I have ADT+ is that I got it for free when Google killed their security system. It is just bad in comparison. Just today it decided not to trigger an alarm when my garage door opens. it shows it open in the app, but just don't bother to react to it (and no, it was not bypassed). I happened a few times over the 2 years I have the system. now I have to reset and link/unlink the sensor like 5 times to get it running.

Setting up new system was glitchy. App is slow to start up. Complains of "Limited Access" for all of my Nest cameras and doesn't show them and they aren't available to ADT. Tech support LITERALLY just hung up on me. App signs you out after time, which is frustrating when you *need* to open the app to turn off the alarm and it needs you to do the full auth thing again when the cleaners forgot their code and it's counting down.

App has greatly improved - my only suggestion would be a notification if an alarm is triggered. Currently you only get one for a "burglary" alarm - would love if I could get a push notification when the local alarm is going off instead of only getting a notification for the burglar alarm sounding. 2025 update, this still isn't possible and Google home stopped announcing when the alarm will sound if a door or window opens. Support is useless.
