Description

BirdLife Australia has launched the Aussie Backyard Bird Count app, which allows users to participate in Australia's first nationwide bird survey. This event takes place for one week each year in October, coinciding with National Bird Week. By spending just minutes in their backyard, local park, or favorite green area, participants can contribute to the survey and help monitor the well-being of Australia's bird population. To take part, users simply need to sign up with their name and email address, select their location on the map, and start counting the birds they observe. The app also includes a built-in Field Guide to assist with bird identification. While there are approximately bird species in Australia, the Field Guide contains information on nearly species. Users are encouraged to use general terms when searching or typing in bird names for the best results. Even after the Bird Count event has ended, users can continue to utilize the Field Guide throughout the year to learn more about the various bird species in their area. For more detailed information and answers to frequently asked questions, users can visit the BirdLife Australia website. Additionally, those interested in supporting BirdLife Australia and getting involved in their conservation efforts can find more information on the website. The Aussie Backyard Bird Count app was developed by Planticle.

I'm so happy being part of the Aussie Bird Count; the app has made it easy to take part, even as a complete novice. My first experience: amongst the flock of noisy miners, I saw a bird I've never noticed before. The app helped me make a reasonable guess at it's identity, allowed me to snap a photo and then submit it for an expert identification. It was so easy and fun; I'm encouraging everyone to have a go.

Delighted to be taking part in the survey, its a great idea. The app helps greatly to identify birds, it takes time to scroll through all the birds to identify the common species found in our area. Could the ducks water foul birds etc be separated in their own class as of birds of prey to make identification of the garden species quicker and easier. also time frame of 20 minutes isn't very long. Thank you, keep up the great work, Mark.

The app is really easy to use. It really helps with identifying birds. I love when the bird count is on. I do wish they would leave the bird count open for the rest of the year. I also would like to see bird calls in the identification section. Sometimes that is the thing that really helps to identify some of the smaller, more shy birds. Thanks for the app, though. It's a great learning tool!
