I'm so happy being part of the Aussie Bird Count; the app has made it easy to take part, even as a complete novice. My first experience: amongst the flock of noisy miners, I saw a bird I've never noticed before. The app helped me make a reasonable guess at it's identity, allowed me to snap a photo and then submit it for an expert identification. It was so easy and fun; I'm encouraging everyone to have a go.
Delighted to be taking part in the survey, its a great idea. The app helps greatly to identify birds, it takes time to scroll through all the birds to identify the common species found in our area. Could the ducks water foul birds etc be separated in their own class as of birds of prey to make identification of the garden species quicker and easier. also time frame of 20 minutes isn't very long. Thank you, keep up the great work, Mark.
The app is really easy to use. It really helps with identifying birds. I love when the bird count is on. I do wish they would leave the bird count open for the rest of the year. I also would like to see bird calls in the identification section. Sometimes that is the thing that really helps to identify some of the smaller, more shy birds. Thanks for the app, though. It's a great learning tool!
Excellent Identification from description. I tried to 'identify' birds I know well to see how accurate the app is. For example, I described a tawny frogmouth by size and colour only, searching in the owl category. The app correctly listed a tawny as one of my description options, explaining that it is not an owl.
I remembered this app from years ago and was really looking forward to downloading again. Unfortunately, there hasn't been much progress on the app, if anything it's somwhow gone backwards. Its virtually useless unless there is a count on. What happened to the map of sightings which used to be available regardless of if the count was on? I don't need a clunky app to identify birds, we have Google for that. I was however hoping to participate in the next count but alas, YOU CAN'T SIGN UP!
looked forward to participating in this year's count but app only once found my address, it wouldn't acknowledge manual imput and because of that I couldn't actually do any more counts. greatly disappointing as where I live we have a huge range of bird life. Maybe the app needs to be changed so once an address is manually entered it allows you to proceed to the count and send the information later when there is a good internet connection. much of Australia has poor or no internet connection. Ta
Does exactly what it is meant to do with a very intuitive interface. Only suggestion is it would be handy to be able to port the observation data over to the main BirdLife Aus app as well. Would be easy enough to mark the data as part of the survey so there is no double count.
Love this app! But during the Bird Count, you could see other species spotted in the area. I loved this feature especially since I'm visiting Australia & I really don't have a clue what many of these birds are! I would love this feature to be available all year long! Thanks for all you do!
Great app. I would like to see a feature added when you click on statistics and write your postcode.. you can click individual species that have been recorded and see exactly where they were sighted.
Good during the bird count, for one week a year. The rest of the year you may as well use a field guide... Would love to be able to keep track of birds sighted throughout the year too.
I installed this because the description lead me to believe it'd enable me to count birds all the way off in Australia from here in Canada. But no—it turns out you must actually travel to Australia, at your own expense, before you can use it in any meaningful way. Well, it was a long, expensive trip—but once I arrived, checked into my hotel, then made my way out to the countryside, I could count birds just fine. I'm withholding one star because the guy next to me on the plane kept snoring.
Good App. suggestion would be to allow search by common name and add the calls the birds make so they can be identified by their call as well.
Very good app, I use it to search birds all year around and it works fine. I'm not giving 5 stars as it could have an option to search for birds using location.
I really enjoyed be part of this but I giide has a great deal of room for improvement. If you are up to speed with IDing birds then I expect this will be much more enjoyable.
Selection by color would be great , but it does not work. Although I chose color black i still get all the birds to chose from . If this can be fixed it would be a great help
Great idea and fun to take part in. The database can be a little hit and miss, especially some of the images. Otherwise fantastic!
The app was fine yesterday today the start of the count cannot add a check list only option is find a bird. I have reinstalled the app still happening
Useless app! doesn't have much in their database, botanical gardens has heaps of native birds but they don't seem to know what a Herron Crane is? as it's not on their database at all especially after they told studio 10 they had an extensive database... lies all lies
perfect for looking up bird names and knowkedge on them.
Excellent to keep track of the bird species and where they are in Australia, wildlife is so interesting and intriguing!
