Meh. Not bad, nothing fancy. Limited options. But it's good for what I need to do, which is automatically transfer money to my Marcus savings account from an external bank's checking account every month. Glad you increased the interest rates for my savings accounts. I'd rather have competitive interest rates than a fancy app. As long as the app isn't buggy, which it's not, so I'm good.
One of the worse accounts in terms of app, site, and general process. Eg. I made a transfer to another account after verifying it. They blocked that transfer, and didn't even let me know. I got a call once that I couldn't pick up. They didn't call back, leave a message, send an email, nor a text. I waited for the funds to show up. When I called they told me they put my account on hold! Also, they send you a passcode and ask you for it on the call. Anyone can pretend to be them and take that code
Mediocre app. Can't set alerts when card is used. Takes too long to do anything. Has repeatedly made double payments due to slow actions. Payments usually go through but rarely get confirmation. I only know my bill is paid when it comes out of my bank. Lastly, the devaluing of points means I don't earn as much discount on a new car as fast as I used to. Will cancel card as soon as i buy my next car (problem with bank/GM, not specifically the app).
After a good length of time using this service and app I absolutely love it. It is easy to use, easy to transfer money in and out using my checking account. There are onky a few things I would add. On the savings side in the cds it would be nice when I roll over and add cash have a Stat that shows what I've put in and the total interest I've earned. And on the investment side I'd like to know exactly how many shares I own of the stocks/etfs instead of just the weight percentage. Dividend names.
App is fairly straight forward. I don't like how you have find the log out option. It's not easily accessible. For me, if I don't log out the app disables the finger print login for the next time you use the app. Extremely annoying for me. Edit: Taking away a star for forcing you to review app after good review was already left. No way to access app till review is done. Should probably remove more stars for stupidity.
Want $100 back if you spend $1500 on fuel? What they don't say is that it's not activated automatically, and it's not easy to redeem. You have to login on a computer, sign in, find the "activate" button, transfer to GM rewards, sign in AGAIN, dig through three menus to find rewards, deep in there is a button to activate it - finally! Oh, but it only applies TO PURCHASES IN THE FUTURE, SO THE $1500 YOU SPENT BEFORE DOESN'T COUNT. Oh and you have to re-activate every year, with no email reminder.
My biggest gripe is the constant log outs. What's the point of biometric sign in if it only lasts a week? I'd like to see the pending transactions reflect my available credit instantly at login (or current balance accounting for pending), but they only show your balance accounting for final payments. Which is important, but there's enough screen real estate to show both. Also, having to expand the displayed transactions multiple times to see most of them. And the app is slow.
For the last week, after logging in and selecting my savings account, I've been receiving, "We're having some technical issues. An error is getting in the way at the moment. Please check back in a few hours - our team is working on a solution." According to a Customer Service rep, they are not aware of any issues. So, is "our team" really working on a solution or not? Update: No response from Marcus, developer contact email is not monitored, uninstalling.
Update 08/05/23: 3 years later. The issues before have been resolved. App is user-friendly and basic account activities can be done. Works. Update to 4 stars from 1. Update 07/22: App still has the same issues. No improvement. Initial: App was working previously. After logging in, no financial account information is displayed, so basically it is no longer useful. Persistently shows a pop-up: 'We're having some technical issues'. It's been 3-4 weeks, and this issue has still not been fixed.
Haven't been able to login to the app for months. Nothing happens, never loads. Cannot see my other accounts linked on the website anymore either. Also, the GM card supported by Marcus is a joke. I literally can never use it. Even for GM-specific purchases. Everything is declined. Utterly useless. ----- The concept is great but my linked accounts keep getting error messages so are not updating at all. This has been a consistent issue for months. When will they be an update for goodness sake?!
They advertise being able to send wire transfers. I needed to withdraw money quickly for a major purchase, and had nothing short of nightmare interactions with support. Had to call multiple times to have them send the transfer, each time they would tell me there is no record of the transaction, but that they just started one for me. Finally talked to a manager who was able to send the transfer, but they didn't follow the wire instructions and sent a very large sum of money to the wrong place.
Totally messed up in some recent update. Won't allow linking accounts - I've spent half an hour trying to figure it out, but either it'll send you back to the institution selection screen immediately when you try to enter your account info, or it'll send you back to the selection screen when you try to verify your account. And that's how it operates both on their website as well as the app (which is just their website in app form, which is why I get a prompt in-app telling me to get the app!).
What a terrible app. It's the slowest app I've ever used on modern devices. The credits and debits are all messed up, sometimes showing the same thing debited 2x. It won't recognised a previously set up bill pay account, one I've had set up got at least 4 years now. I'm glad Goldman Sachs is getting out of personal lending so I won't have to use their terrible customer service and app soon. The sooner the better
Terrible, use a different bank. After saving money for some time, i tried to take some out for an emergency, and the app ran into tegnicall issues and couldn't. This issue was never fixed even after 2 weeks, when i tried again. Calling hold time was more than half an hour, and the person was rude. Aside from the app, i still could not take money out due to small print bs- too complex to explain.
App is unusable. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app 3 times. When you try to log in, you get a message that there is a known technical Issue. I gave the benefit of the doubt that it was true -- it's been a week and I still cannot log in on the app. I can successfully log in on the web browser. I was planning to open a HYSA with Marcus, but not anymore.
Everytime you sign on, it always prompts to enroll with biometrics. NO! Plus why must you always prompt for this. If you back out the app or switch between apps, it auto signs out. Why? If I'm trying to look at my finances from several different institutions, I keep having to login. No I don't like the idea of logging into my financial accounts with biometrics!
Used to be a great app, was able to sync all my outside accounts and investments, but for the last two days I haven't been able to log in, keep getting "we're having technical issues" message. If Marcus is looking to launch a robo advisor next year, they need to consider mastering the basics first. Very unhappy, likely to pull my money and exit this financial relationship.
Does not send account alerts. This is a serious flaw. Alerts are extremely important so you can see if someone got access to your account. I go to push all notifications, and it says it is blocked. I couldn't find marcus app in my apps, uninstalled it from the phone, re-installed, logged in, tried to set notifications, and it said blocked again. It does not show up in apps.
Decent functionality, but so painfully slow and glitchy that I struggle to use it. Same with website. I try to open more accounts - it errors out 80% of the time. You're always having "technical issues"!! When I read the GS was struggling to make the transition to a consumer bank, now I understand. Update: instead of telling me that I've reached the max number of savings accounts (10), Marcus just kept showing me the "technical issues" page. Wish I would have known, wouldn't have switched..
So, as it turns out, even if you make a transfer from your checking account into your Marcus savings account, they will put a 5 day hold on what is already YOUR money. Sadly, even to the point, they will bounce a transaction or bill even though it's there and has been removed from your other account. There is no reason for a hold on the accounts that you've already spent days jumping through hoops to legitimize and have proven your own. I can even understand if it was something new.
