Google Nest offers a range of products that are designed to be beautiful, helpful, and easy to use. The Nest app is a great example of this, allowing users to control their Nest thermostat, arm and disarm their Nest Secure alarm system, view their home with Nest Cam, and receive alerts if Nest Protect detects smoke or carbon monoxide. The app uses sensors, algorithms, and the location of the user's phone to automatically turn off the heat and turn on the camera when they leave. It can also send a Remind Me alert if the user forgets to set the alarm. The Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E are thermostats that program themselves to help users save energy. Users can change the temperature from their phone, see how much energy they've used, and view and edit their schedule. They can also receive extreme temperature alerts before their home gets too cold. The Nest Secure alarm system allows users to arm and disarm their home remotely from the app, receive a Remind Me alert if they leave home and forget to set the alarm, and receive a security alert on their phone telling them what triggered the alarm. Nest Protect is a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm that thinks, speaks, and alerts the user's phone. Google had some great ideas but another two years have passed and the unreliability remains . I have one word to describe the accuracy and reliability of "Presence Sensing" - "Flaky"! My settings are unchanged. Yes they are all set correctly. I double check them with every malfunction. Fast forward 2 more years and the problems are actually worse. I simply do not understand why Google will not fix this this. I think it's time to switch to a different brand smart thermostat!

Presence sensing for home/away assist gets worse and worse. It used to turn the camera on, set the thermostat to eco, and undo that when one of us came home. Now we're lucky if it ever does it at all. The camera comes on when we leave most of the time, but it only turns off half of the time. Eco mode has to be done "manually." update 2+ years later: same. Eco mode changes itself more often now, but the camera does less, so it is about the same.

I only use this for the thermostat. It works more or less and I like the reporting, but the scheduling UI is terrible on mobile. i think it was designed for a browser. Its way too small and sensitive for the average mobile user. Initially 3 stars, but it has been this way for YEARS, so dropping to 2. Not interested in any other nest products if they can't get the simple ones right.
