This app has great features. I had really high hours for it. I used it on several hikes and each one had missing information. Part of the trail was closed or changed, a whole trail was permanently closed. I don't know how they get the trail information. Maybe they need more hikers giving them information. For that price point I need much greater accuracy.

I primarily used it for trip planning, and for that it's fantastic. It has a great interface to plan a route, and the route snaps to the trail very well. it's annoying the app defaults to find nearby trails, but it's easy enough to go to tools. My problem is with the maps that it uses. Many campsites aren't listed, and one that is indicated on the map was removed 20 years ago (some trails too)! I mostly hike in New Hampshire, so other regions might be better. I'll stick to Caltopo/FarOut

Likes: Popular trails in my area are easier to see on the map without zooming all the way in, the trails are color coded by difficulty. Dislikes: App navigation is clunky, it's far too difficult to download trails, a lot of the trails I take aren't mapped properly so downloading just a single trail is pointless as you have to manually download an entire area, some trails are hard to select and there's a fat delay once selected proper. Decent alternative but doesn't work for me.

The app is easy to use and works well for the most part. I can only give 2 stars though, because it is missing parts of the Superior Hiking Trail, so I am unable to create a route for a section hike. With these missing sections, the app is unusable for my purposes. I requested a refund for the premium subscription through Google and it was denied - what a waste of money!

Requires a subscription now to view trail info. Used to be able to tap on a trail and see the trail info, but now it all requires a subscription. The features that come with a subscription aren't bad, but sometimes I can't afford it and would just like to look into general trail info, especially when I want to compare things across different apps. I probably won't be using this app again for at least a while because of this. (And I don't buy them doing it just so you can save all your trails.)

I recently switched from another app and am paying for the premium version. My main complaint is no elevation graph offline, that's so helpful it's probably a deal breaker for me. I'd also like to see 3D available for my offline downloaded maps. I've tried the app on the trail a few times, I like the detail in the satellite image layer and the location looks to be accurate. Still figuring out whether I'll stick with it or try another.

The app is not very useful but the thing that pisses me off the most is I can't figure out how to cancel my membership. The directions to cancel give you options that don't exist in the app. It tells you to go "my accounts and orders > membership questions" but the only option in my app is "my account" and there is no "membership options" on that page

Have just upgraded from the free version and am quite happy so far. Seems much easier to plot waypoints (used my laptop) than some other apps I've tried. I've now saved my map of waypoints to the app and downloaded it to my phone for offline use. Will go camping with it later this week and see how it works. I'm going to an area where I've gotten lost and wandered in the past so we'll see if I stay "found" this time, yet can "get lost" by choice.

I am a long-time user of GaiaGps and sometime user of AllTrails. I was hoping to find a new application to address some of the map issues I have with GaiaGps. I liked that the map did not appear to be Open Street Map based and I liked the elevation rate coloring and the general look of the map. But I stopped using it because the onX Backcountry maps are missing too many trails and have errors. When I first bought the subscription, I sent feedback on some missing trails (Google Maps, Gaia, AllTrails OSM all have them) and obvious errors (one trail where one does not exist, a road going through a lake, a road in the ocean). None of these were fixed in the almost a year since I reported them. Having an accurate representation of the actual trails is the most important feature for me. I don’t feel there is sufficient effort in maintaining the map to justify continuing the subscription especially when Gaia and AllTrails have more accurate maps. I really wanted to like this a but I cannot recommend it.

Bought hoping to find some new backpacking trails, but the "discover" feature is basically unusable for this. Can't filter by things like overnight camping or route type, can't search within a specific area, and I can't even manually scroll through all the results because they just stop loading after the first 20, so all I get is a bunch of short, local trails at the same few parks near my current location.

Is ok, but I still prefer the free basic competitive app AllTrails. onX has potential but is missing many established trails. Also, tracking seems to be all over place: when walking in a straight line or even standing still, the plotted tracker line zigzags around like a fly on a dog pile. 3D is little more than 2D that's been stretched this way and that: not really that impressive. Will check back in a year or 2.

This app is a total no go. Extremely glitchy. the app crashes constantly, the features bring up error messages, and there are tons of local trails that aren't available. I bought the premium version because I wanted a good app. I hike around 1000 miles a year in the Colorado Mountains. I completely don't feel like this is a dependable or even safe app to use to go into remote areas. In the end the app just sucks and that's a fact. Don't get the free version, don't buy the premium.

I downloaded this app hoping it would be useful in directing me to trails and hiking locations but all it does is label trails on a map. If you click on the map it doesn't tell you what trail you've clicked on, how to get there, where the trail head is, the difficulty of the tail, how long it takes to hike the trail, etc, all it gives you is the GPS coordinates of the location you tapped. In essence they are charging for a less detailed and less useful version of Google maps. Not recommended.

No elevation profiles when offline (even when trails are downloaded in high res). When online, there's no indication of your location on the elevation profile. These are basic features on other apps. On my S23 ultra, I can't create routes offline (my friend can just fine on iOS). The app is virtually useless to me when offline. I regret subscribing to the elite version for a whole year.

I just got back from a fun hiking and camping trip. I downloaded the offline maps because I knew I wouldn't have cell coverage. The HUGE problem I had was that when I needed the maps in areas without cell service the app wouldn't even launch. It would get stuck on the blue loading screen. Thank God I had a backup paper map and compass (and know how to use them). Why did I pay so much for an app that's false claims could have gotten me ☠️?

No offense to this app but All Trails is much better. I never needed to pay to discover new local hiking trails on All Trails. I eventually bought a subscription from them because I love the app so much and it is quite useful while hiking new trails. You should ditch the free trial and let people experience your app for a little while longer. If it's good enough then they'll pay for it.

One star only because you can't use the app without paying for it. And if you try and see what it's like it starts a 7 day trial. So you basically have to perfectly plan when you install the app around when you might need it. Currently burning my trial with no intent to reinstall. I saw it in a YouTube video and made the mistake of installing it during the week night to check it out.

This app may be good for highly used trails, but finding places to backpack around my area sucks. Most of the trails have little information and no hiker feedback at all. Trying to find trails by map view is almost impossible because the trails don't stand out well at all no matter the basemap layer. You can't see anything if your zoomed out very far at all. The search feature is useless too, won't find trails I know exist. A nice interface is not enough.

So I guess I need to "go offline" to reliably track my hikes. So I'll up my previous review. I dislike the lack of info on a lot of them. Dislike tracking, as it only records distance, not elevation. Dislike constant updating to maps. Seems weekly. If forgotten the app may not work properly, but that may be my lack of going "offline" to track. I use all the big apps for hiking. Alltrails is great for current conditions,Gaia tracking info is superior.Onx seems to show the most hikes. I want all 3!

I am only giving 4 stars because I got an email saying that my account is renewing next month, but there is no amount. Nor is there any info on the amount in the app. For an app this popular, it doesn't make sense that it doesn't give you an amount that your subscription will be renewed for. Other than that, I love the app. Update: Didn't know I would, but I got an email from customer service telling me what the amount would be. P.S. It should tell you in the app.
