Description

OpenSnow is a reliable source for advanced snow forecasts, snow reports, high-resolution weather maps, and ski conditions information. The platform provides proprietary weather forecast data for any location on Earth, allowing users to search for any location or tap any location on the "Maps" screen to get the forecast instantly. Users can save up to five custom locations to view on their "Favorites" screen for quick and convenient access to the latest 10-day snow forecast, estimated snow report, and estimated snowfall history. OpenSnow offers expert guidance from local forecasters who write a new “Daily Snow” forecast each day for regions around the US and Canada. This feature saves users time by providing them with the inside scoop in just a few minutes instead of spending hours sifting through weather and snow data. Additionally, the platform allows users to track storms with high-resolution maps, making it easy to see if there is snow heading toward their favorite mountains, along with how much snow fell over the past 24 hours, season-to-date, and snow depth. OpenSnow provides essential powder chasing tools, including outlooks from multiple weather forecast models, hourly details, mountain cams, and the latest snow reports. The platform offers a free trial for new subscribers that opt-in, providing them with the full OpenSnow All-Access experience, with no credit card required, for the next 14 days. If users choose not to purchase All-Access after the 14-day free trial is over, they will be automatically downgraded to a free account and still be able to receive email storm updates and view limited snow report and snow forecast data.

When I was living in Crested Butte, I LOVED this app. Joel Gratz not only popped in daily w/ accurate data but also explainedhow he was reading the weather models so that subscribers could learn basic meteorology with him. When I moved to Montana this year I figured it was definitely going to be worth it to pay for yet another. The local forecaster must have better things to do w/ his time than spend an hour a day doing the same. I won't repurchase next year.

Too expensive. Replies to other posters say $30 is a small fee but it's not. Other apps charge $1-10 per year or lifetime even. You'd probably make more money charging less because you'd get much higher uptake if it were affordable (e.g 10/100 users * $30 = $300. 50/100 * $10 = $500). Oh well it was a good app while it lasted. I'd also be happy to pay $2/month or so since I don't need the snow forecast in July. Probably change your name though. Free and open software is free.

I used to enjoy this app. Noone I know is continuing with it. Very disappointed in the new model. When first announced, I considered paying, as I don't mind paying a reasonable amount for useful apps. But $30 for an annual subscription. I was shocked. Maybe for lifetime. Even more discouraging is to see all the copy/paste responses that insist this is a small fee for a phone app! They clearly don't live in the same economic reality as us. Thanks to those who recommended OnTheSnow. Switched.
