When I was living in Crested Butte, I LOVED this app. Joel Gratz not only popped in daily w/ accurate data but also explainedhow he was reading the weather models so that subscribers could learn basic meteorology with him. When I moved to Montana this year I figured it was definitely going to be worth it to pay for yet another. The local forecaster must have better things to do w/ his time than spend an hour a day doing the same. I won't repurchase next year.
Too expensive. Replies to other posters say $30 is a small fee but it's not. Other apps charge $1-10 per year or lifetime even. You'd probably make more money charging less because you'd get much higher uptake if it were affordable (e.g 10/100 users * $30 = $300. 50/100 * $10 = $500). Oh well it was a good app while it lasted. I'd also be happy to pay $2/month or so since I don't need the snow forecast in July. Probably change your name though. Free and open software is free.
I used to enjoy this app. Noone I know is continuing with it. Very disappointed in the new model. When first announced, I considered paying, as I don't mind paying a reasonable amount for useful apps. But $30 for an annual subscription. I was shocked. Maybe for lifetime. Even more discouraging is to see all the copy/paste responses that insist this is a small fee for a phone app! They clearly don't live in the same economic reality as us. Thanks to those who recommended OnTheSnow. Switched.
Useful, but not on a subscription basis. It'd be one of the most expensive app subscriptions ever while only providing slightly more snow data than any number of other weather apps, most of which have lifetime license on a single purchase. It also is very inconsistent on the information it displays based on some algorithm decisions on what mapping data to feature. Bummer that app greed is more important than producing a quality service in the modern era, too many apps with their hand out begging
Ive been a user of open snow for years,, I do enjoy the product and would pay for the app if it was cheaper. They basicly just forced us to pay for premium. We used to get a 5 day forecast and 3 daily reports a week now its all for pay... I'll just Google the weather for now. ps The copied response of if you don't pay for the product than you are the product is lame. Please give us a cheaper option for a limited version.
I really like this app. I have used it in winter for skiing and in summer for hiking. It's as accurate as any. The user interface is straightforward and the ability to tailor the forecast to a specific location/mountain is a major plus. It's now my go to app for weather forecasts. Some people have complained about the price for "all access" but $30 a year seems a pittance for all the features offered (and the absence of ads).
This app was really cool and now that our snow season was just getting started I figured this app would be all I need to monitor my local resort. Unfortunately I just got on and they made the 5 day forecast paid only, as well as other features. The price of this app was not worth it for a 3ish month season. I'd rather see some ads in the app instead. What a bummer. (Sam I don't buy coffee either so don't give the same response as you do everyone else).
Over time this app has had less to offer without paying for it. I upgraded to premium and then it got more expensive. Cancelled my subscription and even less was available than before. To top it off for the past few years the ski resort has been grossly exaggerating the new snow amount. Their own cameras will be bare and they report 4". Also, a simple banner ad would be preferred by the users instead of a $30 fee
I've been using Open Snow for several years. Their app has evolved with the times, being very useful to help determine where and when to ski when you have choices. It is incredibly intuitive and chocked full of features such as allowing you to favorite mountains so you don't have to fumble around when needing real time conditions and forecasts (1, 5, & 10 day). They also tap into live camera shots (you can even see lift lines in some from some cams). Also very helpful is their team of regional forecasters who all are clearly passionate about riding and skiing. They go deep on the details, but also really distill it down. This is an app that I really feel good spending less than a cup of coffee on each month.
Just awesome. I use this in the SLC area and they are consistently accurate forecasts. It's hard to get accurate snow predictions with other apps. I really like the accumulation amounts for morning and afternoons of each day. Allows you to time your trip getting to the mountain much better. I used this for free for about 2 months and it was so good I ended up buying the yearly subscription. Hats off to the developers and the content providers. Great app.
Outstanding weather app (and companion online service). Highly accurate local forecasts, tailored to snowsports and summer mountain activities. They have recently expanded the service to provide world-wide local weather forecasting (with useful hour-by-hour views, precip predictions, etc.). I have been a satisfied subscriber for more than five years -- and it gets better and more useful all the time. It is now my go-to weather app for all purposes.
I don't write a lot of app reviews but this is highly reliable app for SNOW SPORTS, and mountain weather. They provide their own reports, snow totals at mountains, track favorite mountain resorts, trail maps, and keeps daily track of snowfall to get the best pow. It's not a weather app. It's a snow app, for people who chase snow. The yearly fee costs much less than booking a ski trip at the wrong time!
I think you should try and figure out another way to generate revenue, it is a safety thing and this app provided genuinely good information. I bet you if your team considered lowering the yearly price for an individual or a group I bet more would buy.. Also, if you've seen the amount of negative reviews since this change has occurred, you'd think yall would make a new years resolution to change. Just a thought from a ski bum who wants to chase some powder. Skiing is already expensive enough.
finally, I don't have to rely on info from a city 30 minutes away in the farmland flats while im at 8500 feet in the mountains.. your app is accurate for my weather which is usually much different than the closest city weather. plus I can load a dozen other favorite locations which are saved into memory..just click on my picks once. love it !
App was great for the past couple years. recently they increased prices to $50 and they introduced a new 11-15 day forecast and then took it away with no warning. You can now pay $100 if you want that. At this point I'd rather just use the free information available online.
After paying for the premium subscription they tease you with features and then paywall them behind even more expensive subscriptions. This is the same tactic used by hostage takers and blackmailers to manipulate you into paying more money than you ever would have considered paying in the beginning. This is a deceptive and immoral negotiation practice.
Leaving one star for visibility. I like the app and was going to buy premium until I saw the price. I can't justify 50 clams/year for an app I'll only use on my ski trip for a week. App devs might want to think about offering monthly or weekly subscriptions? Seems like an easy win.
very disappointed. I just joined and after 12 days opensnow changed to two paid versions and cut back the 15 day snow forecast to 10. absolutely unacceptable. this change should have made existing customers grandfathered. Please fix this!
Pretty crazy how much I check this app. It's amazing. My wife just doesn't get how I could be so interested in snow forecast. Don't mind paying at all to be free of ads. As an east coaster who skis in Utah it keeps me hyped all winter while I'm between trips out west.
The US forecast radar is broken. what a joke for 100 bucks. the whole us has sleet apparently The cost keeps rising for less features. scam artists. I paid $18 for a year full access (15 day outlooks). Now it's $50 for base $100 for what I have now that I paid $18 for last year. Stop replying to reviews justifying the cost when it's the main thing people complain about... If you plan to reply to me, take your reply and put it where the sun doesn't shine Sam
