Orbot: Tor for Android

To be honest its all on the processing speed of the user's phone and internet connection. The moment I purchased a good phone with reliable service I've never had an issue. You should always delete it when your done, including anything you downloaded while using it. It's a great experience if you know what your doing. Most people dont even use all the setting properly. I love this and love how it doesn't even have to be a third party app. Gooood orbot!!!!

In countries with severe internet censorship, Tor is the best solution, and having an Android Tor VPN client app is extremely useful. however, Orbot is very rarely updated and there are issues that have been around for a long time. for example the "turn tor off" option never works properly and causes the app to crash several times when you try to reconnect after using it. this crashing issue also sometimes happens randomly. fixing this can save us a lot of time.

Update, goes dormant a few minutes after you start it. Can I just have an older version that works properly. It'll start, but once you close the app it just doesn't work. This is what happens when devs continually tweak apps. Why can't we leave well enough alone. And have working apps Works once, then it needs to be Uninstalled then reinstalled. Works great when you use it once, rather bothersome if you want to use it more. Developer's really need to fix what they broke.

Still has issues. Fails to start sometimes and gets stuck. Normally requires a force stotlp, or a restart of the device to work right. Same goes for shutting it down. Fails to stop properly, and when it does, it crashes. It sometimes requires a force stop while running to get it to stop running in VPN mode when it's not on, which has always been an issue, but was escalated with the last update in September.

When it works, its great. The first start after install goes fine, as long as I leave it running and wifi stays connected. As soon as it stops or drops the wifi signal, it hangs at the "starting" screen. The only thing I've found to fix it is reinstalling. Have tried force stopping and restarting the phone to no avail. Have also tried switching identities and servers.

The app won't open, it'll open to a blank screen, then close immediately. I'll have to do this 5-6 times before I can turn it off due to random websites like Netflix or smaller sites like YouTube saying I'm under strange geo-restriction that shouldn't be there, even when switching locations. Some sites somehow know my location after clearing all cache, website data, etc, etc, and showing vpn is connected, with settings showing apps it's to work with are set correctly. It work then it may not

The app works fairly well, I don't have many issues with it. It does have a couple problems like failing to start sometimes and needing to stop it starting and start it again or needing to force stop the app to get it to work. I mean, it's a little bit of hassle but it's not that bad and it does work consistently for me when troubleshooting it how I said, but I do have to troubleshoot quite often. I'd like to be able to configure the Global option to choose which countries it can connect to.

Hello, I don't know what to say, I'm from Iran. You know we are under severe filtering and no VPN works. The internet is under the most severe filtering, google Play was filtered and even browsers didn't work. I was shocked when Orbot connected. It's not very fast, but that's good too. I don't know how to thank you. It's amazing.

it works with a flaw, my IP is changed to Tehran, even if I tried USA and UK, and reuploaded, it's still giving that, would be good if you fixed that, at least works, but can have an issue with access cuz of the regional limits, who knows, I haven't tried yet, fix the bug.

Needs an update, when the VPN is off and not connected, sometimes it randomly turns itself on, Play games on apps for money and none of my offers count half the time cause the VPN turns itself on. when I am not immediately using this I just uninstall it.

What the hell is this!! It's no longer working at all if I connect it to USA or somewhere in EU, it doesn't work, let me explain: if I go on a website that chacks my ip, what is see it my internet provider ip, not the changed one wich means your app no longer works like it used to or there is a high vulnerability wich needs to be fixed or removed this app from Google play store since it's more like a vulnerability now reather then a solution for privacy. Kindness mode absolutely drained my battery. Background usage over 9 hours ate through 70% of my battery. Love the idea of it, but I can't always have my phone attached to a charger all day.

Since the last update on 29th January 26 I can no longer connect to DuckDuckGo app. Have tried disconnecting and reconnecting but to no avail. Not sure what is going on.

redit I tried other apps non of them will work as it cause them to malfunction and break the app and cause the to become corrupt data then I have to do a complete hard data reset non stop back to default settings to fix it and then I lose everything on my phone this is very irritated so I am switching back to proton VPN as it works on all devices with any issues it failed to due like it say so I consider this a scam bait

The concept is good, but the software is terrible. It's riddled with bugs and extremely difficult to use. I don't know why the kind mode inexplicably stops working, or why the network connection status frequently fails to update. Besides, the UI often malfunctions and seems inconsistent with the backend. Furthermore, there are no error messages displayed after problems occur.

Insecure, doesn't keep up with Tor updates, and contains known exploitable vulnerabilities. It's a shame you're even offering this app on the Play Store, it's so irresponsible. You're not even keeping the Tor Browser app up-to-date with Firefox ESR security patches. Shame on you. Smartphones are more secure and more commonly used than computers, you should prioritize support for smartphone platforms higher than computer/desktop platforms. You seem to neglect smartphones.

Kindness Mode is awesome! Please fix the bug where Orbot reports to having: "High system resource usage". Hello, I would like to report a bug that is causing problems. When I only keep "Kindness Mode" turned ON and run a separate VPN, when I simply open Orbot to check my Kindness Mode totals, it will automatically turn off the VPN that I'm running in the background. Can you fix and prevent this from happening? Why does my TOR connection randomly disconnect? I find myself having to connect again.

12/23/25 Due to Google/Android/Amazon breaking all their apps on purpose in very wary of updating a good app. According to reviews, Orbot is going this way? I see that you have not responded to any of these negative reviews. Please respond. I can't update until you explain. annoying I gotta force kill just to turn off the freaking thing since turn off doesn't work. and what happened to auto connect option for what you picked for connections.

It works with WhatsApp, Gmail, Google Play Store, YouTube and my other downloaded apps. It can block embedded commercials in an application completely. Thank you.
