Shell: Fuel, Charge & More

Doesn't even work about half the time. It will let me fill up using the app but then it doesn't give me credit for about half of the full-ups, including premium fill-ups which are supposed to count as 2... Even when I spend $70 on a fill-up. The past three times I have filled up using the app, it didn't give me credit for it. I never spend less than $30 on a fill up either, so it should be counting them, but it doesn't. I go back into the app after filling up and it just says "ready to fill up".

Doesn't work for Shell, formerly Volta, stations. It says they are occupied. Chargepoint correctly shows them available. Too bad I didn't realize this until I had to leave without getting any charge on what was a free station which used to be plug and play under Volta. They also don't recognize + in email which I use for filtering. Absolute garbage.

I still love the convenience of paying at the pump, but this app is going downhill fast. The last couple of updates have been awful. I pulled up to the pump today and could not log in. Each update logs me out, and this time I had to reset my password and start the setup process again. Thankfully I could skip most of it because my information was still there. The receipt button is still buried in a menu. The developer link from my last review was useless and just sent me in circles.

Useless Trash. It doesn't work at all. No matter how many times I reinstall, change my password, or try to log in it either says invalid or the 3 dots of load doom just keep loading. What even is the point of "customer service" they can't do anything. Customer service use to work now they tell you the most basic things like I don't know how to troubleshoot. I called you because none of that worked but you aren't allowed or cant see anything. Stupid useless waste of my time.

The app doesn't work. Simply signing into your account seemed impossible after re-downloading twice. For reference: I was on the "Fuel Rewards" program prior. I tried signing into a new Shell account, only to get redirected, to then be met with the "sorry something went wrong" message. Calling the line was no help either; the whole thing felt pointless.

DO NOT USE FOR EV CHARGING!!! It will flash a thing across the screen for less than 1 second saying it's going to out a $75 hold on your account and you don't even have the option to decline and back out once you're plugged in. Plus, the charger is super slow. So, you'll have to have enough money to go to another charger while a $75 hold is still on your account. I wish I never downloaded this app. I should have driven the extra 15 miles to EVGo who doesn't screw you like this.

The app simply does not work! I signed on from home in the US to make sure when I got to London, ON that the app would be working. When I got to the station the app would not allow me to sign in. Gave a cryptic error with zero explanation. Thank God the operator on the toll free number was able to reset the station and allow me to pay over the phone. I would have been stranded. Once arriving at my destination, the app still won't allow me to sign in with the same cryptic error message! No more!

There's no advantage to using the app over credit card payment anymore. I get an error message saying that it can't connect to my fuel rewards account every time the shell app is opened. It's also not applying fill ups on the app so no extra savings are earned. Uninstalled and reinstalled both apps, deleted all data and still can't get it to work like it used to. Hopefully it gets fixed soon

(8/19/23)I do a lot of traveling and had to stop using this app and over the last few months, there have been issues and errors which is discouraging. update (12/24/25) started using it again and if you using it on the regular it works fine but if you go some time without using it, I had to redo the password multiple times and it had issues linking with my Fuel Rewards and I had to reset the password on that multiple times also.

Horrible! It's the only app I could add gas on immediately. What a mistake. I should have refined the stuff myself. Plus there's only 3 or 4 shells around here. Two didn't take them, one is unmanned. I tried to add another 100, and it wouldn't add it.. I had to call for a refund.. That was 2days ago. It's October 13th. No refund.

Edit: And they are lying in the review responses. They put the $75 hold on your account to make sure you pay. Not your bank. The past 5 times I've come to the gas station, the app would throw an error at login, then when I try to reset my password, it threw an error there as well! You lost my business all 5 times. Record profits every year yet you are too cheap to fix your app or you are intentionally doing it to squeeze every last bit of money out of your consumers. It's uninstalled.

If you don't mind jumping through hoops for PENNIES saved (because you don't shop at convenience stores as the prices are more outrageous than other outrageously priced locations), then this is the app for you. Oh, and when their system has a glitch/error and it's not repaired before the end of the day to get a few more of those pennies saved with another company, well, bummer to you. You'll just have to find another way to stay in good/gold standing within your limited timeframe for fill-ups.

How can one of the worlds biggest companies develop such a terrible app? It's 50/50 on whether or not it will actually work. When the app actually works it is ok, but that is rare. Any time I click "Pay and Save" it will ask to create an account, but it shows my name on the top of the app as if I'm already logged in! I've seen more relaible apps made for toddlers. If you oil companies don't step your game in the next few years I can see many people happily switching to electric vehicles.

App no longer works to pay at pump. Last week, it would recognize my location, but the payment feature would time out. This week, my payment information is no longer in the app and it times out when I try to add a payment card. I also cannot access my receipts. The app last worked correctly for me on 10/7/2023. Have uninstalled and reinstalled app. If it works correctly for longer than 2 months, I will adjust my review. Well, one month after reinstalling, and the app again does not work.

You can trust on it to fail most of the time. We end up wasting time at the gas station waiting for the app to load and when we get to the final stages of completing a transaction it fails stating that there's a technical error. Hope Shell is able to give this app a proper and decent upgrade, because this app is what drives most customers to Shell sometimes!

When the app works it is great. However, it has become so glitchy that it is now basically useless. I loved the convenience of the app. But, there is no excuse for it saying no internet connection when I have a strong connection. Further, it has reached the point where I need to uninstalled and reinstall the app every three months since it likes to forget my payment method and can't show my receipts. As soon as it is reinstalled it remembers everything. Not worth the aggravation.

Pay button doesn't work in the app. Good Luck trying to contact anyone if you don't use their credit card. Just another company dumping they problems off onto 3rd parties, in this case "Fuel Rewards". Same problems there though. I've even tried to email both parties to no avail. Though the discounts are great when I do finally get them, the gas is always on the higher end, so really just a huge waste of time for 50 cents. Time is worth much more.

When this was separate from the Fuel Rewards app, I rarely had issues with the "pay outside" feature. Since the integration, the payment feature has increasingly become unreliable, and the last 4 times it fails after I authenticate Samsung Pay. Please focus on the many bugs in both spps. Also, it would be great if you could insert a confirmation prompt that you want to use your rewards on this fill like the pumps. Sometimes I am waiting on a bigger discount to post but I need a few gallons now.

Horrible phone support. Expect to be put on hold for 5 to 7 minutes when they're busy. You may get bounced around to three different agents, none of whom will help you when you need support the most, they'll just pass you on to someone else who will put you on hold for another 5 to 7 minutes. After speaking to Alejandro, I learned that I had been using the wrong app, this one! The correct app is called Shell Recharge and has a plug logo next to the Shell logo!

i hate that the shell recharge app is no longer active and I'm forced to use this app to find charging stations. the best thing about the recharge app was that I was able to save my favorite stations &it was easy to check a list of what was available. this app doesn't have that feature. I hope they fix that. also, not app related, but many of the charging stations that I frequent always have had 1 or more faulted/ offline broken stations for over a year. don't think they'll ever be fixed.
